[First lines. The opening cutscene of Pokémon Red and Blue (Red and Green in Japan) plays, portraying a battle between a Gengar and a Nidorino. Near the end, the cutscene transitions from the Game Boy's 8-bit graphics to vivid cel animation, revealing the battle to be happening in a packed stadium.]

And Nidorino begins the battle with a Horn Attack! Oh, but Gengar bounces right back, [Gengar uses Hypnosis] and there it is, the Hypnosis Power of Gengar! This could be the end of Nidorino. [Nidorino gets recalled by his trainer] Wait, the trainer recalled Nidorino. Which Pokémon will he use now? [the trainer throws a green and white Poké ball, Gengar steps back and out comes an Onix] Oh, it's Onix! Now this giant Pokémon's on the attack. [the camera pulls back to reveal that the battle is on television] Ho-ho, but Gengar jumps aside! Gengar is moving beautifully today. Its training is top-notch, no doubt about it!
[As the commentary on TV continues, a spikey haired boy named Ash Ketchum puts on a green fingerless glove.]
[in his mind] Yes, I am Ash. [the camera cuts to him in his room, He wore a red and white cap with a dark green L like symbol and a blue and white buttoned short sleeved shirt under a dark slate gray shirt, and light blue cuffed jeans]
Ash Ketchum is a boy from Pallet Town.
[We see a Poliwag-style pencil sharpener, a Clefairy-shaped piggy bank and two Zubats hanging on a hanger. We then see the boy, Ash Ketchum, putting his white trainers on]
[speaks] And now that I'm 10, I can finally get my Pokémon license.
[The camera shows a poster with a Squirtle, a Bulbasaur and a Charmander]
10-year-olds can get a beginner Pokémon from Professor Oak, the town's Pokémon expert.
[puts on his hat, then flips it backwards] I will journey to gain the wisdom of Pokémon training, [picks up a Voltorb alarm clock and gets a green Speed Stripes background behind him] and I hereby declare to the Pokémon of the world; I will be a Pokémon Master. Pokémon Master! That is what I'll-

[offscreen] Ash, get to bed! [Ash yelps and flings the Voltorb alarm clock toward her, who catches it and shows Ash the time] It's 11:00, and you should be asleep!
But tomorrow, I begin my Pokémon journey. I can't even sleep.
DKDelia Ketchum
Well, if you can't sleep, at least get ready for tomorrow, so, here, watch this. [changes channels on Ash's television]
[on TV] Good evening, Pallet, tomorrow's the big day for the newest class of Pokémon students. I'd like to introduce you to Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. Each one is available for new trainees. Which one shall you choose?

Go to bed when this is done.
[seeing the commercial] Alright, I'm going.
And change into your pajamas, OK? [closes the door]
[on TV] ...character to help them develop their special powers.
[Cut to title card]
Ash [narrating] "Pokémon, I Choose You!"
Hey! Get away from there! [angrily groans]
[A Rattata runs away from Ash's backpack]
A forest Pokémon: Rattata. It likes cheese, nuts, fruits, and berries.
Yeah, but this isn't a forest. It's an open field!
It also comes out into open fields to steal food from stupid travellers.
That means I'm stupid...?
[Pikachu laughs hysterically from a tree branch]
[Ash and Pikachu are being chased by a flock of Spearow. He steals the bicycle of a young girl, later known as Misty, to flee the Spearow, but he eventually rides off a cliff, falling off of the bike, with the Spearow still in hot pursuit. Ash then persuades Pikachu, who became weak after the trip, to enter his Poké Ball, but to no avail. This gives Ash no choice but to muster up the guts to take on the Spearow himself]
Spearows, do you know who I am? I am Ash, from the town of Pallet. I'm destined to be the world's number-one Pokémon Master. I can't be defeated by the likes of you. [Pikachu, hearing Ash's speech, starts to pay attention to his Trainer's bravery as he continues on] I'm going to capture and defeat you all. You hear me? [the Spearow hone-in on Ash in the final moments before their attack, leading him to plead one last time for Pikachu's safety] Pikachu, go inside the Poké Ball; it's the only way. [Pikachu looks down at the Poké Ball, and then back at him. A lightning bolt strikes behind the Spearow] Come and get me! [as the Spearow charge in toward him, Pikachu starts running toward him, climbing onto his shoulder, and jumping off Ash's shoulder to counter the Spearow] Whoa!
[a lightning bolt strikes him] Pika-CHU!
[He releases a powerful Thunder Shock, dispersing the Spearow and creating a large explosion in the area]
[Last lines; In the aftermath of Pikachu's act of defense toward Ash, the rainy night turns into a sunny morning. The camera shows Misty's bike that Ash took to escape the Spearow flock, revealing that said bike was destroyed by Pikachu's Thunder Shock, and the camera pan toward an unconscious Ash and Pikachu, and the two of them slowly wake up]
[breathes a sigh of relief] Well, we beat 'em.
[In the sky, a large golden bird-like Pokémon, which later was revealed as the Legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh, cries out as it flies over Ash and Pikachu as a sign of amazing things to come]
Huh? [notices what he doesn't yet know to be Ho-Oh as it flies off towards a rainbow, leaving a trail of sparkles] What's that?
There is no data. There are still Pokémon yet to be identified.
[Ho-Oh is seen one last time flying off into the bright blue sky]
This is just the beginning of the amazing adventures of Ash and Pikachu. Their journey is destined to be packed with non-stop action, millions of laughs, heart-pounding perils, and endless excitement. [Ash, holding Pikachu, stops at the top of a hill. Pikachu then licks Ash's face, which moves him to near tears. However, he holds them in, as he realizes he must get to a Pokémon Center to heal Pikachu's wounds as soon as possible] Together, they'll encounter fantastic friends, evil enemies and meet creatures beyond their wildest imagination, and as their story unfolds, we'll unlock the magic and mystery of a most wondrous place: the incredible world of Pokémon!
[The screen shrinks to the left, then stops moving. The text "TO BE CONTINUED" appears.]
[Misty confronts Ash at the Pokémon Center with her burnt bicycle]
[panting] I knew I'd find you here!
[seeing that her bike is destroyed] Hey, what happened to your bike?!
What happened to my bike?! YOU happened to my bike, you little loser! This is what's left after you stole it to save your Pokémon! Now I can see why your Pokémon is in... WHOAOAOAOAH! [tumbles over and falls down]
[slaps Ash's left arm] I don’t need your help, and you're gonna pay for what you did to my bike!
I'll make up for it. I promise I will, really. But I can't do anything about your bike until...
[angrily] I don't want any of your lame excuses, kid! I just want a new bike right now!
It's my Pikachu. My Pikachu's not too good.
[Misty becomes worried as Ash looks behind at the red light with a needle on it]
I think so, and there's nothing I can do to help now.
[Ash, Misty, and Nurse Joy have their lines of sight impaired by a Koffing's Smokescreen attack]
What are...Who are they?!
Don't be frightened, little boy.
Allow us to introduce ourselves.
[A teenage girl and boy emerge from the smoke]
To protect the world from devastation.
To unite all people within our nation.
To denounce the evils of truth and love!
To extend our reach to the stars above.
Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!
Surrender now or prepare to fight!
[appearing from the top of the screen] Meowth! That's right!
What are you talking about?
He just doesn't get it, does he?
[off camera] How can I? You don't make any sense.
We're here for the Pokémon.
You're NOT getting Pikachu!
Pikachu? We're not interested in your precious Electric rat. You are.
We seek only rare and valuable Pokémon.
You are wasting your time. This is a center for weak and injured Pokémon.
Well, that may be so, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if we find a few little Pokémon gems among all the junk.
You're starting to bug me.
Meowth, then, let's squash him.
[Nurse Joy, Ash and Misty flee the scene with Pikachu on the stretcher as Ekans and Koffing cause destruction]
You grab Pikachu and get out of here! I'll take care of these three clowns.
That's pretty big talk coming from such a little lady.
At least you're right about the pretty part, thanks for the compliment.
The girl thinks she's pretty.
I agree with her. I think she's pretty, too. Pretty pathetic!
[annoyed] Hmmmm, I'll show you! Poké Ball, go! [Goldeen comes out rolling and jumping on the floor, to Jessie and James' shock] Goldeen, return! [Goldeen is back inside the Poké Ball]
[The Meowth balloon is flying past the full moon, but Team Rocket is hanging from a rope]
Great! A cat losing to a mouse!
That Pikachu is no ordinary Pikachu.
It's certainly very rare. A perfect prize!
[Then, the Meowth balloon pops, sending the three characters hurtling through the night]
[about Caterpie] It's so gross. [scared] Ash, put that slimy thing back in the Poké-Ball! Bugs are one of the three most disgusting things in the world!
Aside from you, what are the other disgusting things?
Very funny. [smashing] Carrots, [kicking] peppers, [hitting with a wooden hammer] and bugs. Everybody has something they don't like and I don't like bugs!
[making a silly face] Yeah? Well, I like carrots, and peppers, and bugs. [now serious] What I don't like is the way you're hurting Caterpie's feelings with your silly fear of bugs.
