It isn't the only way. But going through the Island Challenge is the most certain way. The key to your success is to pass the Grand Trial of each of the Island's Kahunas.

I will answer that with great pleasure. A Grand Trial is a battle between trainer and Island Kahuna. If the trainer wins, the Kahuna acknowledges that trainer's worthiness.

When you use a Z-move, both you and your Pokemon expend a large amount of energy. So in a way, you Pikachu and Rowlet are now, your Z-move should be quite a bit tiring.

[Meanwhile, Mallow has also not started sculpting her clay model]

[The camera cuts to Sophocles' clay model which is now spinning on a pottery wheel]

[The two share a hearty laugh before Burnet takes a few steps away from Kukui.]

[Kukui reaches his arms out to hug her or something similar, but she dodges and turns around, sending Kukui off-balance for a bit. He recovers and turns around as well. Burnet laughs at this interaction.]
[pointing her finger at Kukui] I choose you!
[Kukui pulls out an upside Poké Ball as if challenging Burnet to a battle. When he does not send out a Pokémon, Burnet becomes confused, then shocked about what she thinks he might do next...]
[Kukui flips the Poké Ball over and opens it. Instead of a Pokémon, the Ball contains an engagement ring, marking the first on-screen proposal in the Pokémon anime!]

[Burnet drops her arm and becomes overwhelmed at Kukui's proposal.]
[As Tapu Koko forms the massive body for its Z-Move, Ash's Z-Ring resonates as the Electrium Z becomes the rare Pikashunium Z once again.]
[smiles, before taking off his hat]: Yeah, well, okay!
