Can I help you?
I'm Fontana.
Oh, hey, Anita Van Buren. This is your new partner.
Hey, man. Ed Green.
It's about time they gave me a partner with a little smooth.

Can I help you?
I'm Fontana.
Oh, hey, Anita Van Buren. This is your new partner.
Hey, man. Ed Green.
It's about time they gave me a partner with a little smooth.
[as Fontana leaves] Wasn't sure if he was a cop or a wiseguy.
Make it work, Ed.
We could've just ducked the whole issue instead of trying to set policy.
And I can't believe I have pusillanimous pussyfooters on my own staff.
I don't think Spiro Agnew is the person to be quoting here, Arthur.
If the shoe fits.
Lindsay Starr didn't deserve to die. She was no longer a soldier. She worked in a supermarket. She was lured into a deserted office and ambushed. And while Nadira Harrington's misfortunes might explain her actions, they can't excuse cold-blooded retribution for the abuse of her brother. If Corporal Starr's conduct at Abu Ghraib exceeded military or international standards, we have, in our civil society, procedures to redress those wrongs, if wrongs they be. Yes, the processes are slow, messy, uneven. But Nadira Harrington had choices. To vote, to sue, to advocate for justice. Instead, she opted for blood feud, and the end product of blood feud is chaos. Our history books are rife with examples of religious zealots of all stripes. Christians, Muslims, Jews twisting their faith's fundamental morality to accommodate a personal or political agenda. Neither rationale justifies killing. The highest moral law in our culture is, "Thou shalt not kill." And where we live, killing in the name of God, country, or brother is still called murder.
I never heard a woman talk so good about a man who done her so bad.
When you were a kid, did you ever call your old man by his first name?
Not unless I wanted to smell the Aqua Velva on the back of his hand.
[a paroled ex-con has been murdered]
I love a public service homicide, don't you?
The only thing sweeter than a dead CO is one on my side of the bars. It's the gift that just keeps on givin'.
Robbery-homicide?
Robbery-suicide.
That'd be a first.
I was doing catch-up on discovery.
Discovery? You're halfway through trial.
The defense disclosed dozens of boxes of paperwork. They're trying to drown us.
They have nine paralegals, and we just have me. But I don't think they meant to disclose this. [hands McCoy a piece of paper]
[reading it] Miss Southerlyn, you've outdone yourself.
Do I get to see it? [McCoy hands him the paper, he reads it] Well, let's see if Dr. Cedars can wiggle his way out of this one.
Since when do gun dealers surf the Web?
Everybody surfs the Web, Arthur - everybody but you.
You and Detective Green are both good at making people believe what you want them to believe.
We're good at our jobs.
Does your job include breaking the law?
Technically. I've bought drugs from drug dealers and guns from gun runners.
Guns and drugs.
[sarcastically] Sometimes I even break the speed limit in the pursuit of a criminal.
Find this amusing, do you, detective? This is all just a big joke to you?
Objection!
Sustained.
Is it fair to say as an undercover you would do whatever it takes to catch the so-called "bad guys", even if it means breaking the law?
We don't break the law. The law allows us to pose as bad guys and lie to bad guys, in order to catch the bad guys.
[yelling] And if you can't catch them, you just kill them? Take the law into your own hands and gun them down to die like dogs in the street? How many people have you killed doing "your job", detective? How many?
Your honor!
You are the bad guys, officer! You!
This is a crime scene. It says so right there on the tape.
Cosmetic surgery. It's an epidemic in this country. Whatever happened to aging gracefully?
Only a man would say that without a trace of irony. Men age gracefully, Arthur. Women just age.
This is a waste of my valuable time. I'm gonna have my lawyers make a complaint to the chief of police.
Hey, how come you rich guys always have to have your lawyers do your talking for you?
