S10 E11Touch & Go

What are you doing?

I need to fix my resignation letter.

So, you broke into my office?!

The door was open. I'm changing the date of my last shift.

Let me guess: sooner?

Actually, later.

...You want to be a little more specific?

No. Not right now, anyway.

Well, then let me know when you decide.

See you tomorrow, Kerry. [walks out]

Stay outta my inbox!

[after Abby has been introduced to Kem] Ah, they met after I left.

What'd he do? Knock her up ten minutes after that?

S10 E12NICU

[to Abby and Neela] When'd you start your rotation?

Five minutes ago.

Well, the NICU's great! Intubations, chest-tubes, umbilical-lines. You get to do all sorts of teeny-tiny kick ass procedures.

[elevator door opens]

NNurses

Card is waiting and Raab is pissed. Wanna give him a pneumo?

[The nurses, Abby, and Neela roll the baby away]

Good luck you two!

Yeah, you gonna love it! [To Sam] Let's get out of here.

I hate the NICU.

Those guys are screwed.

I had a baby brother. He died when he was six days old. I was only three. I remember sitting in my mom's hospital room eating ice cream, but I don't actually remember him. The NICU's just so sad all the time. How can you stand it?

I don't know. When I was an OB nurse, the preemies freaked me out. I thought they looked like frogs. I was pretty sure I was gonna hate the NICU.

But you don't.

No, I don't. It's not just about the babies. You know, so much of it is about taking care of the parents and it turns out tragic family dynamics are my specialty.

Look, we do the best we can. Some kids will end up hospitalized for life- and some will go to the prom. Neela- there are no guarantees in this work. If you can't live with that, I suggest you become a bank teller. We'll pick up again when I get back. (leaves)

MSMed Student

Don't listen to her. My cousin's a bank teller- got held up at gunpoint last year.

[a baby Abby has been caring for in NICU has died in surgery; she just informed the family and comforted them, and is watching them grieve]

[holding back tears herself] How long will it take?

An hour, maybe longer. [pause] You helped this family, Abby. They will remember you for the rest of their lives.

...Yeah. [starts to leave]

I'm hoping you'll give neonatology serious consideration. [Abby turns around, looking angry]

Are you mocking me? 'Cause it's really, really not a good time!

No. [pause] You're one of the best students I've ever had.

You're gonna be a dad.

Yeah.

How's it feel?

Scary. Especially in this room. I start thinking about all the things that can go wrong all the mistakes you can make.

You're gonna be a great father.

S10 E13Get Carter

Hey, would you mind if Kem observes in the hospital today?

Yep.

Um- she has her Master's Degree in Public Health.

That's no reason to punish her. [Carter laughs] Give the poor woman a credit card, Carter- let her have some fun.

I tried that. She would like to speak to the Public Health nurses and see how we track communicable disease.

Sure, fine. Maybe she can motivate some of these slackers around here.

Frank, did any labs come back on the Goram kid? [Frank doesn't answer, he's leaning against the desk looking pale] Frank! You alright?

I think I'm havin' a heart attack.

Are you kidding?

Do I look like I'm kidding?!

Okay, here- here! [she pulls over a chair] Sit down! I need some nitro- [Frank sits down, lets loose a massive, prolonged belch; Abby fans the air in front of her]

[sighs, feeling better] Oh, that feels a lot better. You know, I'll bet it was just those breakfast perogies.

[After Kerry has used the money bequeathed by Dr. Romano to fund a memorial care center in his name for gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender patients and families]

l[ooking at the plaque of Romano's face] Is it just me, or do the eyes seem to follow you?

Was Romano's prosthetic arm destroyed in the accident?

I dunno. Why?

'Cause if it wasn't, it's going to hunt Dr. Weaver down and strangle her. [he, Kem and Abby laugh]

He wasn't a big supporter of gay rights?

Ah, no.

That's too creepy. [she leaves, Elizabeth Corday walks in]

Did I miss the dedication?

More like post-mortem payback.

[reading the plaque in astonishment] Oh, my God!

What is it with Kovac and his holier than thou healing hands? I'm getting pretty sick of that.

Oh, I don't know. Those healing hands have their good points. Right, Abby?

Did you go out with Kovac?

Briefly, yeah.

And Carter?

Yep.

Abby's the ER slut.

I went out with two doctors in five years that I've worked with.

LKLester Kertzenstein

Hey, Abby. Are we still on for tonight?

Yeah.

LKLester Kertzenstein

Great.

We're studying! And you shouldn't talk, Chuny.

DSDave Spencer

So how was your pancake-juju thing?

My what?

DSDave Spencer

Your surgery. The operation you were doing this morning.

Pancreaticojejunostomy?

DSDave Spencer

You made that up, didn't you?

Nope.

DSDave Spencer

Come on, admit it. You have the perfect job for getting out of things. Who's going to argue with a surgeon? "I'm really sorry, I'd love to help you move this weekend, but I have to separate a pair of Guatemalan twins who are joined at the testes."

Actually, a pancreaticojejunostomy is a re-plumbing of the upper GI tract.

DSDave Spencer

That sounds painful. Can you get that from working out? Because my shoulder's been killing me.

I believe that's called old age.

S10 E14Impulse Control

RARisk Assessment Expert

This place is a disaster. I've never seen anything like it. I've witnessed your workers engaging in bullying, hostility, violence, inappropriate touching...

Oh, come on. We have a good staff. They do their best.

RARisk Assessment Expert

You have a bunch of walking lunatics on your hands. Doctors yelling, nurses beating up patients. You need to start firing people immediately.

Fine. You're fired.

RARisk Assessment Expert

What?

Don't come back tomorrow.

RARisk Assessment Expert

You won't be meeting the terms of the legal settlement.

So sue me! Again! What else is new?

[talking about almost having an abortion] When I finally figured out where the clinic was, I sat in the waiting room and when they called my name I couldn't get up. The second time I went, I was too late. And now I look at Alex...

The clinic I went to had a Strawberry Shortcake poster. I just looked at that the whole time.
