[Dexter and Rita are making out at Dexter's apartment]
Rita
I can do this more often now that my mom's in town. I feel like we're being bad.
[The phone starts ringing]
Rita
Let the machine get it.
[on the answering machine] Hey, Dex, just calling to check in. Thought we could do the debriefing on dinner. I thought it went well, don't you?
Rita
Mmm I'd say so.
[on the answering machine] Rita's sweet, very Martha Stewart.
[Rita looks offended]
[on the answering machine] God, her mum, she's got quite the rod up her ass, doesn't she? By the way, I am such a twat. I can't believe I almost slipped up about your mum. Mind you, it could've been worse. I could've spilled the beans about our road trip.
[Dexter moves to turn off the machine but Rita stops him]
Rita
Don't you dare!
[on the answering machine] Can you imagine Rita's face if I told her you and I spent the night together in a hotel?
Rita
You and Lila spent the night in a hotel together?!
Rita
Adjoining rooms? God, I am such an idiot. I can't believe I defended you to my mother while you were off sleeping with another woman!!
Rita
I thought you were different than Paul, but you're the same. You know what, actually, you're worse. You made me trust you.
Rita
I've had it! I have been patient and understanding, but there's only so much I can take. You are a liar and a cheat, and I am through. It's over, Dexter! [storms out]
What else did the doctor say?
Rita
He asked me a million questions about my medical history. There's a form for you to fill out too, but I told him you were adopted. I mean... Are there any details that you do know?
[voiceover] Like "Mom was killed by a chainsaw, my brother was killed by... well, me." That kind of stuff? [to Rita] No, I don't really know anything.
Rita
Dexter, what is it?
My life has always felt like an unanswered question. A string of days and nights, waiting for something to happen, but I didn't know what.
Why is he acting so weird?
Rita, we're connected. Wherever I am, I feel you and the kids with me. You're what makes me real. I want us to always go out for banana splits. And replant the lemon tree that keeps dying. And I never, ever want to miss a pizza night. And that's how I know I want to marry you. Because something as simple as pizza night's the highlight of my week. But not without the kids. [leans down by Cody and Astor] Cody, Astor, you guys are my family. I'm gonna hang on to you for dear life. Please, say yes.
[Rita looks to Cody and Astor and they both nod their approval]
Rita
Yes! Yes, we will marry you!
Rita
That massage was amazing.
We spend enough money to be members here. At least now I have somebody to go to the spa with.
All of that stuff, that's not for men, right, Dex?
Lying naked on a table, helpless, no thanks.
Rita
I asked him for menu suggestions - do you know what he says?
Rita
Steak. He says steak. Yeah, that's great, Dexter. That's really great. We'll start with a steak appetizer, followed by steak salad, followed, of course, by a steak. And then, of course, it'll all be topped off by a steak fucking cake.
That was awkward. I don't think I've ever been asked to leave a funeral before.
Rita
Ramon didn't ask you to leave – he pushed you out the door. He's just so angry.
He's lost two brothers. He doesn't know whom to blame.
Rita
Certainly not you.
[voiceover] No, certainly not me.
[voiceover] The danger with community is that those who don't belong are looked upon with suspicion. Those of us who prefer to work by ourselves, the lone wolves, risk being singled out. So I become an expert at blending in, camouflaging myself, being one of the guys.
Aster what's that [as Dexter pushes her into the water]
Rita
Dexter, what were you thinking?
She was wearing a bathing suit.
[voiceover] This blending in thing isn't as easy as it looks.
