Walter[to Jesse] Gus is dead. We've got work to do.
Walter[to Skyler] I forgive you.
Walter[to Saul] There is gold in the streets just waiting for someone to come and scoop it up.
WalterWell, you missed a good meal. The lasagna came out very well, if I do say so myself. I wrapped some up if you'd like some later. [pause] You know, it gets easier. I promise you that it does. What you're feeling right now. About Ted, everything. It'll pass. So what we do, we do for good reasons. And we've got nothing to worry about. And there's no better reason than family.
Walter[to Skyler] See this watch? It’s a birthday present. The person who gave me this wanted me dead, too. Not that long ago, he pointed a gun right between my eyes right here and he threatened to kill me. He changed his mind about me, Skyler. And so will you.
[Hank and Marie watch Walter's "confession" tape at home]
WalterMy name is Walter Hartwell White. I live at 308 Negra Arroyo Lane, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87104. This is my confession. If you're watching this tape, I'm probably dead–murdered by my brother-in-law, Hank Schrader. Hank has been building a meth empire for over a year now, and using me as his chemist. Shortly after my 50th birthday, he asked that I use my chemistry knowledge to cook methamphetamine, which he would then sell using connections that he made through his career with the DEA. I was... astounded. I... I always thought Hank was a very moral man, and I was particularly vulnerable at the time–something he knew and took advantage of. I was reeling from a cancer diagnosis that was poised to bankrupt my family. Hank took me in on a ride-along and showed me just how much money even a small meth operation could make. And I was weak. I didn't want my family to go into financial ruin, so I agreed. Hank had a partner, a businessman named Gustavo Fring. Hank sold me into servitude to this man. And when I tried to quit, Fring threatened my family. I didn't know where to turn. Eventually, Hank and Fring had a falling-out. Things escalated. Fring was able to arrange, uh, I guess... I guess you call it a "hit" on Hank, and failed, but Hank was seriously injured. And I wound up paying his medical bills, which amounted to a little over $177,000. Upon recovery, Hank was bent on revenge. Working with a man named Hector Salamanca, he plotted to kill Fring. The bomb that he used was built by me, and he gave me no option in it. I have often contemplated suicide, but I'm a coward. I wanted to go to the police, but I was frightened. Hank had risen to become the head of the Albuquerque DEA. To keep me in line, he took my children. For three months, he kept them. My wife had no idea of my criminal activities, and was horrified to learn what I had done. I was in hell. I hated myself for what I had brought upon my family. Recently, I tried once again to quit, and in response, he gave me this. [points to the bruise on his face left by Hank] I can't take this anymore. I live in fear every day that Hank will kill me, or worse, hurt my family. All I could think to do was to make this video and hope that the world will finally see this man for what he really is.
WalterOne cook... after the job is done.
Walter[to Jesse] I watched Jane die. I was there. And I watched her die. I watched her overdose and choke to death. I could have saved her. But I didn't.
Walter[to Elliott, who is threatening him with a fruit knife] Elliott, if we're gonna go that way, you'll need a bigger knife.
Why are you here?
WalterI was curious. Honestly, I never expected you to amount to much, but methamphetamine? I didn't picture that. There's a lot of money in it, huh?
I don't know what you're talking about.
WalterNo?
Not a clue.
Walter"Cap'n Cook?" That's not you? Like I said, no one is looking for you.
Look, I don't know what you think you're doing here, Mr. White. I mean, if you're planning on giving me some bull-winder about getting right with Jesus by turning myself in...
WalterNot really.
High school was a long time ago, okay? You ain't Welcome Back, Kotter, so step off. No speeches.
WalterShort speech. You lost your partner today. What's his name–Emilio? Emilio is going to prison. The DEA took all your money, your lab. You got nothing. Square one. But you know the business. And I know the chemistry. I'm thinking... maybe you and I could partner up.
You, uh... you want to cook crystal meth? You. You and, uh... and me?
WalterThat's right. Either that... or I turn you in.
WalterDid you learn nothing from my chemistry class?
No. You flunked me, remember?
WalterNo wonder.
Prick! And let me tell you something else, this ain't chemistry. This is art. Cooking is art. And the shit I cook is the bomb, so don't be telling me.
WalterThe shit you cook is shit. I saw your set-up. Ridiculous. You and I will not make garbage. We will produce a chemically pure and stable product that performs as advertised. No adulterants. No baby formula. No chili powder.
No, no, chili P is my signature, man!
WalterNot anymore.
[Walter withdraws his life savings and takes them to Jesse's car]
Dude, this isn't even seven grand, alright? My guy wants eighty-five.
WalterThis is all the money I have in the world. You're a drug dealer. Negotiate.
[scoffs] Y-You are not how I remember you from class. I mean, like, not at all.
WalterYeah, well, I gotta go.
Wait, wait, hold up! [leans out the car window] Tell me why you're doing this. Seriously.
WalterWhy do you do it?
Money! Mainly.
WalterThere you go.
Nah, come on... Man, some straight like you, giant stick up his ass, all of a sudden at age what, 60, he's just gonna break bad?
WalterI'm 50.
It's weird, is all, okay? It doesn't compute. Listen, if you've gone crazy or something; I mean, if y–if you've gone crazy or depressed, I'm just saying... th–that's something I need to know about, okay? I mean, that affects me.
WalterI am awake.
[scoffs] What?
WalterBuy the RV. We start tomorrow.
[Jesse records Walter cooking in his underwear with a camcorder]
Wow, this is a really great look for you. I mean, you're maybe only the world's second-biggest homo.
WalterShut up and help me.
[zooming in on Walt's underwear] Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Work it, baby, work it.
Walter[notices Jesse recording him and tries to grab the camcorder] Turn that off!
This is glass-grade. You got... Jesus, you got crystals in here two inches, three inches long. This is pure glass! You're a goddamn artist! This-this is art, Mr. White!
WalterActually, it's just basic chemistry. But thank you, Jesse, I'm glad it's acceptable.
"Acceptable"? You're the goddamn Iron Chef! Every chiphead from here to Timbaktu's going to want a taste!
WalterAfter we finish cleaning up this mess, we will go our separate ways. Our paths will never cross and we will tell this to no one. Understood?
Oh what, I can talk now? [pause] Fine! That goes double for me!
[Walter and Jesse hear a moan. They turn around and notice Krazy-8 is still barely alive]
Oh, shit.
