Sister BearMama, a star is coming closer, and it's landing on my nose!
[chuckles] That's a firefly. I think it likes you!
I think I got the last spot.
Well, you're just in time, Papa.
[when Mama, Papa, Sister and Brother try to buy the tickets] I'm sorry. All movies are sold out tonight.
[The ticket vendor bear closes the curtain on the ticket station. Then she offscreen puts a "SOLD OUT!" sign in front of the ticket station window. Mama, Papa, Sister, and Brother groan in disappointment.]
We have tried to get some special family time together, but this is what happens!
[All the movies at the movie theater are sold out. And what's more, it was the last day any bear in Bear Country can see them. Those "films" which were at the theater that night aren't going to be released on VHS video or home movie projector films. And by extension, this is the last day for the cinema theater to be open. No movies can be seen there ever again because it's closing down, going out of business, after today night. The cinemas theater in Bear Country is closing its doors for good in favor of being replaced with a new building in its former site. As for the "cinema" subject, there's going to be no more cinema theaters in Bear Country whether that's normal or drive-in theaters ever again, period.]
We've been having special family time together all night, Mama.
Sister BearThat's right.
If you keep an open mind, you just might be surprised.
Sister BearKeep an open mind?
That means you have to wait and see what is coming before you decide whether you like it or not.
Sister BearAll we've been seeing is nothing but trees and rocks for the last hour and a half.
Be patient. Our first stop is coming up very soon.
That's what Mama said two thousand trees and rocks ago.
Sister BearThis trip is great!
You can say that again.
Sister BearOkay. THIS TRIP IS GREAT! [voice echoes]
[trying to get Gran's bird to copy him] How about this? "I am a birdbrain, I am a birdbrain."
Sister Bear[listening in the doorway] You said it, not me! [laughs]
I'm not going to the pet show with this bird.
Once everything has a place to go, it is a lot easier to be sure it is put away.
Sister BearSo we can find it when we need it.
Sister BearWe don't need two cubs doing a cycle trick.
Good point, Sis! If you need any help with another circus act, you let me know.
I liked your bicycle act, Sister.
Sister BearThanks, Lizzie. But there's only room for one cycle act in this circus, and Brother took it.
[Sister gives Brother a hug]
Sister, no hugs! What if my friends see?
Sister BearThey will think you're the best big brother ever.
Thanks.
You go everywhere with your wagon, Kenny.
But you can't race without wheels.
Sister BearWhat were Brother and I doing then?
That was before both of you born.
Sister BearYou mean, back before there was a mall?
And before they used to put fires out with pails?
Well, back before there was a mall!
But not so far back as the volunteer fire bears!
Moving can certainly be very hard.
And even a little scary.
Sister BearIt must be the most awful thing in the whole world.
Too bad there aren't more trees.
Come, papa, come!
[picks up a piece of quartz on the ground] Oooh! Diamond!
[laughing] I'm not sure if this is a diamond, Brother. It looks like a piece of quartz, but it's a real fine, just the same.
Huh. Hmm, not much left of the wood pile! Uh-oh!
Oh dear!
The mountain soil's just too thin to grow trees, Mama! And not a lot of trees around makes it hard for a woods-bear like me.
What's for dinner, Mama?
Not quite as much as I’d like, I’m afraid! Our garden is so small, and Brother's growing so big, I'd like to make the garden larger, but it's right up against a rocky ledge.
[sigh together]
[Later that night, as Brother was getting ready for bed.]
Brother, Papa and I have something very important to talk to you about.
What, Mama?
We decided that it's time we moved from Great Bear Mountain down into the valley.
We're going to move away?, Why, Mama, Why?
Because there aren't enough trees on the mountain for my woodworking.
And our Rocky Mountain garden is much smaller than I'd like it to be.
And there's barely enough room for your bed and your cubby for you.
But what about my toys, my books, and my rocks?
Don't worry. We'll put all of our things into boxes and we’ll take them with us.
But what about my friends? The deer and the rabbits? We can't put them in a box and take them with us!
No, we can't. But you'll meet new friends in the valley, and we can always come back to visit.
But I love it here on the mountain! [starts crying]
I know you do. We do too. But I'm sure we'll all love our new home just as much as we love this one.
