That's another environment problem in Bear Country. [sees a piece of wood from a bumbleberry tree] And so is this. A sample to add to my endangered and extinct species display. [picks up the piece of wood from a bumbleberry tree]
But I thought endangered species were just animals, Professor.
Well, animals, plants, and even trees can become extinct or endangered.
Sister BearWould you like to double-dutch with us, Hillary?
[Chuckles] You're kidding, right? Jumping rope's for little cubs. [Hillary gives Sister a thumbs down as she does not want to jump rope] But then looking at that pink ruffled jumper and that hair bow, I guess you are a little cub.
Take that!
En Garde!
Touché!
[Laughing] Now, boys.
Sorry, Mama. But your honey-glazed carrots are so good.
Hey! What about my turkey loaf? I thought that was pretty good too.
Best in Bear Country Papa.
Too bad Sister doesn't think so.
Not hungry tonight, Sister?
Sister BearNot really.
Is something wrong, sweetie?
Sister BearWell, Hillary made fun of my clothes, my name, and said jumping rope is for little cubs!
Who's Hillary?
Sister BearA new girl at school. She wears cool clothes, a headband, and listens to cool music on a boom box. She even has hoop earrings. Mama, do you think jumping rope is just for little cubs?
No, I don't. But more important then what I or Hillary or anybody else thinks is what you think. Do you think jumping rope is just for little cubs?
Sister BearNo.
Then that's all that matters. Just be yourself and others will accept you for who you are.
Sister BearThanks, Mama.
We have some work to do.
Work? But I thought this was supposed to be a vacation.
Sister BearBrother right. It's not fair!
What's the matter, Brother? Do you have ants in your pants?
No, I have sand in my swimsuit.
You just put it on. How can there be sand in it?
It's kind of a long story.
[arrives home after playing at Lenny's house] Hey, where's dinner?
Sister BearWe already ate.
There are leftovers in the fridge. You can help yourself.
You ate without me?
Mama's meatloaf was getting cold.
Sister BearAnd we were hungry!
Why is everyone so grumpy?
You kept us waiting for half an hour.
I was playing Lenny's new video game I must have lost track of time. [sees a gift on the table] Hey, whose present is it?
Yours.
Gee, thanks. What did I do?
It's for your birthday.
My birthday? But that's a month away!
Sister BearWe thought you could use it right now.
Use what?
Open it.
[Brother opens his gift]
Wow! A Mighty Super Bear watch!
Hey, where are you going?
Sister Bear[angrily and tries to rush Brother] The bookstore! Remember?!
I remember. I was just playing at Lenny's.
Sister BearI told you, "4 o'clock!"!
[also trying to rush Brother] Come on, Brother. We're already late as it is.
[The scene cuts to the book store. Brother and Sister have to miss out going to the bookstore because it's closed. Thanks to Brother who was late. Sister sees the "CLOSED" sign on the entrance door of the bookstore. And she says...!]
Sister Bear[sadly] I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S CLOSED!
[Sister --after saying this-- sadly sighs and huffs.]
I'm sure Ursula Major will visit the bookstore again.
[Sister glares at Brother.]
Hey, don't look at me. That train we had to wait for must've been 100 freight cars long.
Sister BearAnd if you had come home at 4 o'clock, we would have been past that railway-crossing before the train came!
[True to what Sister says, she, Brother, and Mama missed their last train to go to the bookstore. And they were forced to take their car to it. In the meantime, Sister and Brother both look upset and face away from each other. Sister resumes huffing.]
[to Sister] Now, now, here's no sense getting into a big fuss over it.
Right, Sis. These things happen.
Now, I didn't say that, Brother.
What?
These things happen (sometimes), yes, but your coming home late didn't help matters.
[True to what Mama says, these things do happen sometimes. It was an accident and accidents happen. But according to Mama's saying, he's always coming home late. That's what matters.]
Maybe next time I should pay closer attention to my watch.
A watch doesn't take you where you have to be. It's up to you to decide if you want to be on time.
[True to Mama's saying, having a watch --to be on time-- might be one thing. A watch, it is one good thing. But it --a watch-- is not going to take you where you have to be. It is your decision if you want to be on time. Mama says to Brother, "It is up to you to decide whether you want to be on time!".]
[to Mama] Well, I want to be on time. I just get busy with things sometimes.
[Sister turns to Brother. And she says...!]
Sister Bear[to Brother] Well, next time you get busy with things, don't mess up my time too!
Sister Bear[sighs] I wish I lived on a farm.
Oh, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, even though there are many chores to do.
Sister Bear [To Farmer Ben about the cows] It's all our fault, Farmer Ben!
We did it! We made your cows sick!
Sister BearWe forgot the latch the gate this morning!
So they got out!
SisterShep got them back in, but it was too late!
Something must've happened to them while they got out!
Sister BearSomething that made them sick!
And it's all our fault!
[Farmer Ben smiles]
Why are you smiling, Farmer Ben?
Because that solves the mystery.
Huh?
The stinky milk mystery.
The cows are fine.
Sister Bear[sighs] They're not sick?
No, come on. I'll show you.
Sister BearWhat is this place, Mama?
The Lost Cubs Station. It's where cubs who get lost and taken to wait for their parents. Another rule is if either one of you get lost and can't find our meeting place, then you should go into any store asks somebody who works there for help. Then that bear, or a uniform mall security bear will bring you here where I can find you.
Gee, Sis. Look at all the good things that could happen when you give someone your old stuff.
Sister BearAnd when you give someone your extra time.
Right. That's even better.
Can't Sister and I clean our room tomorrow?
Afraid not. It's too messy.
"Messy" is not the word. [peeks into the cubs' bedroom] If I didn't know better, I think you have been raising a family of monkeys in there.
Sister BearWhy don't you try hopping up and down on one foot while holding your nose.
That sounds so crazy, it just might work.
And if that doesn't get rid of hiccups, at least we've created a new dance move.
I called this emergency meeting because we're having a family crisis. We don't do anything together as a family anymore. I think we need to spend more time together.
Brother Bear But we're spending time together right now. [He smiles and Sister nods, but then they look up in surprise at Mama's next words.]
Mama Bear I mean special family time together when we go out and do things as a family, like spending a day at the beach, or visiting the Bear Sounion Institution.
I guess the problem is just trying to find the time.
Exactly, so I say we make the time. I porpose that next Saturday we go on a special family picnic.
We haven’t done that in a while.
Sister BearI love picnics.
I’ll bring my ant jar… Only my Bear Scout Troop’s having our car wash for charade next Saturday.
Sister BearAnd next Saturday is Lizzy's Birthday.
And I have to finish the Squire’s end table next Saturday. [Mama sighs] What about spending time together after all that?
I know, we can go see a movie.
But we would be just sitting in a dark room eating popcorn. That's not really the special family time I had in mind. [sighs] But if that's the best we can do, then a movie it is. [Brother and Sister hug Mama,] At least we'll be doing something together as a family.
[One week has passed]
Goodness, a whole week gone already. Come on, Bear Family! Time to spend some family time together!
Sister BearWhat movie are we going to see?
Look at all these movies. They used to show only one at a time.
Let’s go see Goopy Monsters from the Sewer!
Sister BearEw! How about The Ballerina Slipper?
What about an action packed adventure movie?
