[Luka says goodbye to Carter. Sam give Carter a med record and follows Luka out the door and chases him down.]
I thought you were still on?
SSam
For awhile, yeah. Ah, you know what you said, earlier, on the steps? [Luka nods] Me too. So… come on by later and I’ll make you some eggs.
[They both turn to go. Sam turns and yells out]
[Sam runs to Luka, he grabs her in his arms as he laughs and they kiss.]
[while Luka and Alex are playing video games] You're going down, you little freak.
You're worse at this than you are at soccer.
Bite me, you Slav bastard.
SSam
[as she walks in the door] Alex! What did you just say?
SSam
I heard you. [to Luka] You heard him. What did he say?
I didn't hear anything. Might have been the game.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure you heard the game, Mom.
SSam
Yeah, well, I don't wanna hear that kind of talk out of you. [to Luka] Or you.
SSam
And, I got a real winner for you. Belly pain with combustible breath.
You talking about that creepy homeless guy? [Pointing at Charlie Metcalf]
SSam
"Creepy" I'll give you, but I don't think he's homeless.
How 'bout we wait till he sobers up? I'll be in home and in bed by then.
SSamantha
He needs to be examined, Pratt.
[Sam is sorting supplies in an empty trauma room. Luka enters]
The detective is still here.
SSam
You shouldn’t have been so dismissive of me in front of him.
You didn’t need to discuss the details of Louise’s condition. She deserves some privacy.
SSam
Yeah, and she deserves a chance to help. We have an option we haven’t even talked about.
SSam
If we deflate the crike balloon Louise could whisper.
You want to take her off the vent?
SSam
Just for a few moments at a time.
She is requiring 100% oxygen
SSam
I take her off the vent every time I suction her and she’s fine. Come on, we both know it’s possible.
Technically, yes, but why risk it?
SSam
Because she wants to help.
SSam
What is that supposed to mean?
[a beat, softer] You’re sensitive about these kinds of cases.
You always want to stand up for women who’ve been assaulted.
Of course I do. Maybe because of when you were with Steve?
SSam
Steve never raped me.
Physical abuse? Hitting you?
SSam
Oh, this has nothing to do with that.
SSam
Yeah. There’s a violent rapist out there. How are you going to feel in two days, two weeks, a month from now when we get another woman like Louise in here.
[as Sam is preparing Louise's body for the morgue] Sam, you don’t need to do this.
SSam
I shouldn't have done it.
The contusions were severe. She could have died anyway.
SSam
I shouldn't have done it, Luka.
You did what you did to help the patient, Sam.
[Sam doesn't respond to him]
SSam
When I deflated that balloon, Louise was still so traumatized. He kept asking her these questions and the only thing that she could remember was: "White guy, dark hair." I did what I did for "white guy, dark hair."
SSam
He's too young to go, and he shouldn't even be listening to that kind of music anyways.
I didn't know you already said no.
SSam
Luka, I'm trying to teach him the value of a dollar and you go and give him everything that he wants.
SSam
For a concert ticket for a ten year old. NO. That's ridiculous.
I just don't think you should be worried about money so much.
SSam
Look, I appreciate your generosity, but I am not going to let you start paying for everything.
But you don't have to pay exactly half the rent and half the bills every month, that's ridiculous.
SSam
You know I've been taking care of me and Alex for 10 years on my own, I think I can handle it.
You know, this isn't about money at all. You're worried about losing your independence or something and about my role in Alex's life. What, are you worried you're losing control or something?
SSam
You know what, you always do this.
SSam
This! Telling me what I'm really mad about.
Most of the time, you don't know what you're really mad about.
[Sam walks to the door]
Sam, this isn't our stop.
It's a teaching hospital!
SSam
Yeah. It's also a real hospital with live patients who didn't get antibiotics and insulin 'cause I was in here doing compressions for 30 minutes!
OK, so you did some extra compressions. What you really mad about?
SSam
Are you in all seriousness telling me for the second time today that I am not mad about what I'm really mad about?
I have no idea what you just said!
Yeah, you do. I put down the NG on Mrs. Leighberger.
SSam
I didn't ask you to do that.
He said you were a little "over-extended" today, unlike the rest of us. [leaves]
SSam
Abby, will you excuse me? I need to go yell at someone.
[doesn't look up from her patient] Have fun.
SSam
You're really good at teaching other people how to communicate.
SSam
We should try it ourselves sometime.
[Silence, Luka gets a smirk on his face and tilts his head down to her a bit.]
But my English, you know? I still need to work on it.
SSam
Aw, you're pulling the Croatian card? That's low!
[She hits him gently and he pulls her into an embrace, hard. He looks down at her adoringly and she returns the look.]
You were right about one thing.
Fifty dollars is too much for a concert ticket.
[They kiss]
SSam
[about Neela's crush on Luka] It's not funny, Luka. You're doing everything to encourage it.
SSam
Yeah, well, it better not be. Otherwise I'm gonna have to get into some nasty chick fight with Neela.
In the mud? Just don't hurt her.
SSam
Only person who's gonna get hurt in here, is you. You got it?
SSam
Doctor Hair? I think he's kinda cute.
SSam
Surgery and ER have these battles in every hospital I've ever worked in. It's not personal. It's, surgeons think they're much better and smarter than everyone else. It's a defense mechanism. To make up for their terrible lifestyle.
SSam
It's a pissing match, Luka. Let it go. Come on, you're taller and sexier, and you already got the girl.
