I summon Shining Abyss in defense mode!
[laughs] Now it's time to show you how we duel together!
That's right, Yugi! Activate Mask of Brutality!
Thank you, Lumis, your mask will be a perfect fit for my monster!
Not only that, Umbra, but it will boost your monster's attack power by a thousand points!
KKaiba
What?! These rare hunters already have a monster on the field with 2600 attack points!
That's right! And it will stay that way as long as we each give 1,000 Life Points for every turn we plan to use Mask of Brutality!
KKaiba
[to Yami Yugi] I realized your magic card saved my Life Points, but next time, I'll do it myself!
Kaiba, if you ever expect to see Mokuba again, we need to help each other! Remember, the minute one of us falls, the other won't stand a chance against their unified tag team assault.
KKaiba
Are you questioning my skills as a duelist, Yugi?
I'm saying we must combine our forces in order to defeat these Rare Hunters. They duel as a team, building up one another's moves and we have to do the same! I saved you, and if you don't protect me the same way, I may not be around to save you again!
KKaiba
[thinking] Then good riddance.
KKaiba
First, I'll place one card facedown, then I'll summon Battle Ox in defense mode… to protect my Life Points.
You can't expect to win by hiding behind weak monsters. Our Shining Abyss has 2600 attack points. It can easily annihilate your Battle Ox and tear down your wall of fur balls, leaving your Life Points wide open! Right, Lumis?
Precisely, Umbra. Looks like you'll never see your friends again, not where you'll be going! But before I completely wipe out your Life Points, I must first demolish your defensive wall of miniature monsters. And I have just the magic card to do it. Another mask! Behold! My Mask of Dispel! It will cover your multiplying magic card and conceal its effect! So I'm afraid your Kuriboh army will be reduced back down to one! With your weak defenses crumbling, it's only a matter of time before we destroy you both! This was even easier than I thought, and I'm not through with you yet. Just like your Magnet Warrior's mask, with this in play, you lose 500 more Life Points every turn! [laughs sinisterly]
[thinking] Oh, no! With two of my cards covered by masks, I'll lose 1,000 Life Points every turn! If we don't figure out how to stop them soon, it's all over!
Next I'll summon my Grand Tiki Elder and rid the field of your Kuriboh!
Kaiba and I make a powerful team, and you two rare hunters are no match for combined strength of our decks! And when we prevail, you will lead us to where you are holding Mokuba and the others captive!
KKaiba
I think what my partner is trying to say is that thanks to my superior skills, you're finished! Right?
KKaiba
Don't tell me you're still stuck on this teamwork thing, Yugi. It's getting a little old. Listen up, here's the deal: I'll win this duel on my own, and if it's convenient for me, I might help you, but don't mistake that for teamwork, or you'll be very disappointed. I'm in this for Mokuba. Got it? And I will do whatever it takes to defeat these rare hunters and free my brother. I'm not about to lose. These fools don't realize no one disrespects my family and gets away with it.
This isn't only about you… my friends are in danger as well!
KKaiba
That's your problem, Yugi. I'm dueling for me!
But, Kaiba, you need my help, and I need yours! Lumis and Umbra still have the upper hand.
Your partner is right! You may have summoned your Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Kaiba, but it's still useless against the ultimate power of our Masked Beast! Our camouflaged creature has 200 more attack points than your pathetic dragon. As soon as it attacks, your Blue Eyes will be gone!
He's wrong, Kaiba! You can destroy their monster!
Look, if you want to win, you're going to have to trust me on this. Like it or not, we're a team. And if you attack them with your Blue-Eyes White Dragon, I promise I'll back you up. Trust me.
Okay, Umbra, let's teach these fools a lesson, shall we?
All right! I'm gonna play Rogue Doll!
KKaiba
Don't you think that you're just a little too old to be playing with dollies, Rare Hunter? Especially ones that have such lower attack points.
[under Marik's control; in distorted voice] Welcome.
MJMarik/Joey
Not exactly. Joey is not present. He's gone away.
MJMarik/Joey
That's correct. And if you want your friends back, you will listen to me.
What's going on? That sure doesn't sound like Joey.
KKaiba
It must be one of Marik's tricks.
Listen, Joey, you've got to be in there!
MJMarik/Joey
It's pointless. Now, you listen, Yugi. We are playing by my regulations. I'll release your pathetic friends as soon as I get what I want. Of course, since I want your Puzzle and Egyptian Gods card, there's only one way to do this. You and I are going to duel!
MJMarik/Joey
Refuse, and your friends are mine forever!
Release Joey from your control, Marik!
KKaiba
Well, Mokuba, it appears that this Marik was somehow able to turn Joey Wheeler against Yugi. Now Wheeler wants to duel. This should be interesting to say the very least.
KKaiba
Well, if Wheeler is fighting on the side of Marik and the Rare Hunters now, he may be holding the third Egyptian God card. [thinking] And I want that card in my deck, so if it's played, I want to be there.
It's time to seize the power that should have been mine all along!
[trying to get Joey to come to his senses] Joey, I know you can hear me! Your mind is under the control of Marik, and you must break free, understand?! The same Marik you vowed to help me crush! Think, Joey! You've got to remember your promise to me, when you gave me your Red-Eyes! Marik couldn't defeat me in a duel. So he decided to turn you against me, in order to win my Puzzle and my Egyptian God card. Joey, I know you're in there, and I'm going to set you free! Marik's power is feeble compared to the strength of our friendship. Please say something, Joey. Joey!
MJMarik/Joey
You'll never set him free, unless you follow me, Yugi.
[angrily calling out to Marik in determination] MARIK! You hide like a coward, but wherever you are, I know you can hear me, and I've got news for you! There will be a loser in this duel, but it's not who you're thinking! It's not me, and it's not Joey, either! It's you! Marik, you will lose this duel!
You may have thought you could force Joey to destroy me by taking over his mind, but it looks like there's something you didn't take into account when you made your plan! The strength of Joey's bond with his friends! Time may be running out, but Joey's back, and we're in control of this duel now! Your power over Joey has been removed! And I'd say that means... you LOSE!
That timer may run out, but since Joey is free, you can't be considered the winner of this duel! Get it?! Since you're not dueling anymore, how can you possibly win this duel!?
[groans lividly] YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS!!!
KKaiba
What does Yugi think he's doing?! That fool!
I hold a card in my hand with dark powers beyond your wildest imagination. But first, before I could play this all-powerful card, I needed a bit of assistance. Thanks for helping me destroy you. Three of my monsters needed to be destroyed before I could bring forth my Dark Destructor. You made that possible. Now I summon the beast that will cause your demise, Dark Necrofear! [summons Dark Necrofear] You have no idea what you are about to experience!
I knew you planning something!
It doesn't matter. You still fell into my trap, and now you're about to pay the ultimate price! [laughs] This is it. You're finished, Yugi!
What is it? That monster's creeping me out.
Me too, Tristan. And if he was willing to lose all those life points to bring it out, it must be powerful.
Dark Necrofear is one of the most destructive cards in my deck. You'll never stop it.
KKaiba
I know a card in Yugi's deck that can-- his Egyptian God card, the mighty Slifer the Sky Dragon. It all depends on whether or not Yugi has the courage to use it.
Stare into the face of defeat! You see, not only is my monster strong… possessing more attack points than either of your monsters… but it also possess a dark magic hidden within, waiting to activate and destroy you!
Your monster may be powerful, but it's not unbeatable!
KKaiba
[thinking] This Dark Necrofear must possess incredible powers if Bakura risked losing the finals just to summon it. He led Yugi through this duel like a dog on a leash, and now Bakura has him exactly where he wants him. So, what will you do now, Yugi?
[thinking] I'll make this wacko wish he never tried to control my noggin'! [speaking] Yo! Listen up, you bald-headed freak! According to my math, you're gonna be all washed up in nine turns! That's if you can count!
Where'd he come up with nine?
Look, with Joey, you don't ask.
My brother's so awesome, he's got this whole duel calculated in his head already.
That's right, Serenity. You just keep believing everything he says.
[as Odion pulls out a replica of the Millennium Rod and holds it in front of him; shocked] That must be what he used to control me!
[thinking] The Millennium Rod! I knew Marik would use it to win this duel! That coward can't win on his own!
Point that thing somewhere else and duel like a man!
Look, Marik… Did you say, "very well?"
[thinking] That's a relief. Marik must have realized that Joey's mind is too strong to be controlled. That's why the Millennium Rod didn't work last time.
[thinking] Little do they know that Odion's Millennium Rod is merely a replica of the original item held by me. These fools will never suspect that I am the one they fear and despise so greatly! And while I hide safely in the shadows, Odion will fight my battles for me. But something else concerns me. It's Seto Kaiba and his role in this struggle. Little Yugi isn't the only one standing between me and the power of the Pharaoh, for the ancient tablets also depict a sorcerer, who bears a striking resemblance to Kaiba. And what concerns me even more is what appears to be my Millennium Rod in the hands of this sorcerer! So I'll keep an eye on him as well. And before the finals are over, Kaiba's Egyptian God card, Obelisk the Tormentor, will belong to me! Kaiba could never comprehend that card's power! And as long as Odion continues to deceive everyone into believing he is me, my plan to obtain the two remaining Egyptian God cards and Yugi's Millennium Puzzle should be simple. I'll show Seto Kaiba what true power is all about.
Hey, Seto. If Marik really is the leader of the rare hunters, he must have, like, a ton of rare cards in his deck.
KKaiba
There's only one card in his deck I care about and that's his Egyptian God card, the Winged Dragon of Ra. And hopefully that hack, Joey Wheeler will last long enough in this duel for me to see how Marik's card works so I can win it for myself.
[thinking] Listen to me, Odion. If you can't defeat this pathetic fool, Joey Wheeler, then you don't stand a chance against the Pharaoh! So unless you'd like to take an unexpected journey to the Shadow Realm, I'd suggest you refrain from disappointing me.
[thinking] Yes, Master Marik. I pledge my word that I shall defeat this worthless opponent.
It's time to duel, and destroy you!
Gentlemen, let the duel begin!
Don't count on it, Marik! I'm not scared of you!
Joey's Life Points are low, so he's got to protect himself. Marik may attack with his three serpents in his next turn, and Joey has to be ready!
Hey, guys, what Joey do to get rid of those gross things?
It's not easy. The first thing that boy has to do is keep his Life Points safe.
Your chances of victory have vanished. You'll never recover from the triple onslaught of my Embodiments of Apophis!
Oh, yeah? I'm gonna have to disagree with you. So take this. I place one card facedown and change Alligator's Sword from attack to defense mode.
That seems like a final desperate move to me.
Well, we'll just see. [thinking] As soon as Mr. Personality over here attacks me, I'll activate my Scapegoat magic card. It'll absorb the hits of all three of his slimy reptiles, leaving me safe and sound.
You're about to feel what real power can accomplish, Mr. Wheeler. Now, my three beasts, attack!
Marik, you're in for a surprise! Go, Scapegoat! My Scapegoats will absorb all three of your snake attacks!
Joey's smarter than I thought.
I see. Good move, but not good enough!
Observe, my Magic Jammer!
Bad news, guys. I'm afraid Marik's Magic Jammer trap card cancels out the effect of Joey's Scapegoat magic card.
That evil creep can't win this!
It's time to say farewell to your furry friends and hello to my serpents!
Apophis, attack! Destroy Rocket Warrior and Alligator's Sword! Now, attack his Life Points directly!
[Joey falls to his knees as his Life Points drop down to 200]
He almost lost the rest of his Life Points!
You've lost all your monsters. And now, you're down to 200 Life Points. One more attack and it's over.
You can do this, Joey! You promised to help me defeat Marik. And if you win this duel, he's finished!
[thinking] Wrong, you fool! I'm Marik. And your friend's about to lose at the hands of my servant, Odion!
KKaiba
[thinking] This duel can't end until Marik plays his Egyptian God card! I must see it!
Time to bring back a monster from my graveyard with Monster Reborn! Bring back my Alligator's Sword! And now, I sacrifice my Alligator's Sword and my Swordsman of Landstar so I can summon this-- my Insect Queen! I won this card from a feisty little germ named Weevil Underwood. [thinking] Every one of my Battle City victories is paying off right now. Those duels got my three incredible monsters!
KKaiba
[impressed with satisfaction] My tournament's done wonders for Wheeler's deck.
[amazed] Look at that! Joey was able to summon every rare monster he won in the tournament all at once.
Yes. Joey has come a long way as a duelist since the Battle City tournament began, Mai.
Attention! It's time to choose the next two duelists for the third match of the Battle City finals!
[thinking] Looks like Marik's missing in action. And still no sign of that eighth duelist.
Hey, before we start, I was thinking… since Marik entered this thing with a fake name, shouldn't he be disqualified?
KKaiba
Wishful thinking. But this contest is about skills and not names.
KKaiba
It means to get rid of the competition, you should be man enough to use your deck and not some trivial technicality. [thinking] Besides, to obtain the Winged Dragon of Ra, I must defeat Marik, not disqualify him. Only then will I be able to return to the glory I once knew.
I will now play the magic card, Sword of Dagra! It increases the attack strength of my Mudora by 500 points! Now, attack his Vorse Raider!
KKaiba
[thinking] Why, thank you. [speaking] Facedown cards, GO! [activates his Shrink and Crush Card Virus combination] You're finished! First up is my Shrink card! This cuts my Vorse Raider's attack points in half!
[thinking] In order to activate his Crush Card, Kaiba had to first lower his own monster's attack points!
KKaiba
And as if that weren't enough, watch as my Crush Card destroys both monsters on the field as well as every powerful monster in your entire deck! [laughs wickedly]
Oh, man! Kaiba's move was brutal! If I were Ishizu, I'd trade in that Millenium Necklace for a crystal ball or something!
[thinking] Joey's right. If she can see the future, why didn't she see that coming?
KKaiba
[snickering] Now every monster in your deck with over 1500 attack points goes to the graveyard!
KKaiba
Looks like you're left with nothing but a deck full of worthless monsters who pose absolutely no threat to me!
According to my Millennium Necklace, I don't need a powerful monster to defeat you. So watch as I stop you from attacking me for three whole turns! For now, I play this… Swords of Revealing Light! You're trapped!
KKaiba
Please enlighten me. If my future's bleak, why are you stalling?
I'm not stalling, Kaiba. Fate dictates our moves, and it's your destiny to lose!
Really. And I can clearly envision your downfall as you can't help but destroy yourself.
KKaiba
Well, I have a prediction of my own. Once your Swords of Revealing Light are gone, I'll crush you with my Egyptian God card! So while you count on fate to win this, I'll count on brute force!
Fine, and I'll place one card facedown. Now make your move. It's only a matter of time.
KKaiba
[thinking] Virius Cannon! Perfect! She may have prevented my monster from attacking, but I can still play this magic card. And when I do, she won't know what hit her!
[thinking] Watching Ishizu toy with Kaiba's mind is quite amusing. I always knew she had a dark side.
KKaiba
Stand back. It's my move! And I summon Dark Gremlin in defense mode! And then… I'll place this card facedown.
You know, I gotta hand it to her… She's about to get stomped, but that Ishizu's keeping her cool.
Yeah, I'm starting to think that maybe she does know something we don't.
No way, that's just an act.
Act or no act, she's in big trouble.
Yeah, thanks to Kaiba, most of her monsters are in the graveyard now.
Oh, no! [thinking] What if Ishizu does lose? Will the evil within Marik grow even stronger? She joined this tournament to help me defeat her brother and to uncover the good inside him. She has to win!
KKaiba
Your most powerful monsters are in the graveyard, and soon, the rest of your cards will join them!
I'm well aware of your plan, Kaiba.
[thinking] Seto Kaiba is so naive, believing that mere skill can lead to victory in this game. That fool must accept his ancient past in order to win!
KKaiba
[thinking] She has no idea what she's in for!
