[to Marik; demanding] Admit your true identity, Marik!
Yes, it's true. I am indeed the real Marik, you fools!
[thinking] Then he must have the real Winged Dragon of Ra!
Yu-Gi-Oh! · Season 1
[to Marik; demanding] Admit your true identity, Marik!
Yes, it's true. I am indeed the real Marik, you fools!
[thinking] Then he must have the real Winged Dragon of Ra!
[The doctor checks Odion's symptoms after he fell in a state of unconsciousness from his duel with Joey, while Marik posed him as himself]
So, what's the diagnosis, Doc?
Well so far, Odion's heart rate is steady. His tests were fine. But I'm afraid all the mental stress he's gone through has left him unconscious.
Yeah, I could use a nap, too.
The doctor means he's been knocked out, Joey. You should be really thankful you're not in the same state.
You got a good point there. I mean, he and I were both standing right there when his Egyptian God monster went all kablooey. But I'm perfectly fine…
Aside from the brain damage you had going into it.
Zip it!
I guess that means we're not gonna find who this guy is until he's able to wake up.
That's right, but there is one thing we do know for sure… he was determined to protect Marik for as long as he could.
Attention! It's time to choose the next two duelists for the third match of the Battle City finals!
[thinking] Looks like Marik's missing in action. And still no sign of that eighth duelist.
Hey, before we start, I was thinking… since Marik entered this thing with a fake name, shouldn't he be disqualified?
Wishful thinking. But this contest is about skills and not names.
What's that mean?
It means to get rid of the competition, you should be man enough to use your deck and not some trivial technicality. [thinking] Besides, to obtain the Winged Dragon of Ra, I must defeat Marik, not disqualify him. Only then will I be able to return to the glory I once knew.
[making the first move] Hmm… Not too bad. I play Dunames Dark Witch in attack mode! Take it away, sweetheart.
Starting things off quickly, are we? I see. Now let's see what my deck has in store for me, rather us. [draws] Excellent. Now I'll summon my Revival Jam in defense mode.
All right, tough guy, check it out! I play this-- the magic card: Harpie's Feather Duster! It blows away all your trap and magic cards! Sorry, Marik, but I saw your dirty little plan, so I swept it right up!
Yeah!
[thinking] Mai sure handled that fast, but she's in for much worse if he summons his Egyptian God card!
Now, my Dark Witch! The coast is clear, so attack that slime token with Spellbinding Flux!
All right! Mai's already got the lead! Keep it up, Mai!
[thinking] Yes, rejoice, you fools. Celebrate. I want you all to be full of hope, so it will be that much more devastating when I thrust each of you into the dark abyss!
And now, to complete my turn, I think I'll place one card facedown and that'll do it.
Very well. I summon Melchid the Four-Face Beast. Then I sacrifice Revival Jam and Melchid the Four-Face-Beast to summon the The Masked Beast Des Gardius!
[thinking] That is one powerful monster!
Now, my Masked Beast! Destroy her Dark Witch!
WRONG! Now, I activate my trap card, Mirror Wall! It attacks your beast with its own reflection, cutting its power in half! Dark Witch, finish off his Masked Beast!
KA-BLAM! Marik's lost even more Life Points!
Hold on. It's not time to celebrate yet.
[The Mask of Remnants attaches itself to Mai's monster and is now on Marik's side due to the effect of Masked Beast Des Gardius]
Dark Witch!
When it's destroyed, my masked beast leaves behind the Mask of Remnants, which allows me to reshuffle my deck, but more importantly... I gain control of your Dark Witch. Next, I think I'll do away with your pathetic little trap. As I play the magic card-- Remove Trap! Good riddance!
Aw, man! Looks like Mai's in some serious trouble out there! She'd better come up with something before Marik unleashes that Egyptian God card!
Try and hang in there, Mai! You can do it! [Mai turns to see her invisible silhouette] We're all here for you!
[puzzled and confused; thinking] That's weird. Whose voice is that? And where's it coming from?
What's wrong? She's not answering me, and what's with that blank stare?
[thinking] It's true! Téa's been erased from Mai's mind!
[laughs sinisterly; thinking] Cherish your memories while you can, my dear, for soon, you'll forget everyone and everything you've ever known! [speaking] All right, then... I place one card facedown... And then, I'll summon Makyura the Destructor in attack mode! Next, I'll add this all-powerful magic card-- the mystical Black Pendant! Black Pendant's dark magic raises my monster's attack strength by 500 points!
[thinking] Now Marik's monster is stronger than my Unfriendly Amazon! He's going to attack!
Marik's almost down to 1,000 Life Points!
[laughs evilly] A small price to pay… to have you caught deep within my trap!
[shocked] Huh? A trap?!
That's right. Reveal Card of Last Will!
Card of Last Will?
Yes! It allows me to draw five new cards into my hand when one of my monster's attack points is decreased.
[thinking] Now Marik gets a brand-new hand! This could change everything!
[draws five new cards from his deck] I offer you my gratitude. Gaining five new cards isn't all you've allowed me to do. By destroying Makyura, you've activated its special ability. Now I'll play a card that will surely annihilate you! This shadow game's quite amusing. Now, prepare to live out your worst nightmare! By the way of the trap card: Nightmare Wheel! [activates Nightmare Wheel, trapping Mai's Amazon Fighter] Not only does it trap your Amazon Fighter… [laughs] but the Nightmare Wheel will also take 500 Life Points from you every turn.
I wasn't expecting something I couldn't handle.
Pardon?
I thought you'd try something like this Marik. So I play this card, [reveals her trap card] Rescue Operation! This trap card allows me to rescue my Amazon Fighter from your trap. It also let's me summon a new monster to the field now.
Do you know what this means?!
So, are you going to summon the Egyptian God Card you took from me?
Of course not, I paid attention the last time it was played. And I know if I summoned it now without sacrificing any monsters first, it would have zero attack points. But not to worry, I'll play that Winged Dragon by the end of my next turn.
She crazy? How's she ever gonna pull that off, Yugi?
But first things first… Amazon Fighter, return to my hand, now! And now to summon a new monster. Ah, this ought to do. I summon Cyber Harpie!
Yeah! Mai's favorite!
Now, I just need one card. Let's hope this is it. [thinking] If I draw the right card, I'll be able to summon the Winged Dragon of Ra! [draws] Come on… This'll help. [speaking] I play Graceful Charity! Now! A magic card that lets me draw three new cards from my deck, and then I discard two from my hand. [thinking] First I'll get rid of these… And now let's see if I drew the card I need! [speaking] Oh, I am so good.
[The gang is in Mai's room as she lies down in her bed, after her duel with Marik when he trapped her mind in the Shadow Realm]
Joey, she's not waking up.
Mai?
She can't hear you. Marik trapped her mind in the Shadow Realm.
[worried] Poor Mai.
This tournament's gotten way out of hand! You know why?
'Cause there's a mind-warping psycho on board? [everyone looks at him] (What?) Just being honest.
I will now play the magic card, Sword of Dagra! It increases the attack strength of my Mudora by 500 points! Now, attack his Vorse Raider!
[thinking] Why, thank you. [speaking] Facedown cards, GO! [activates his Shrink and Crush Card Virus combination] You're finished! First up is my Shrink card! This cuts my Vorse Raider's attack points in half!
[thinking] In order to activate his Crush Card, Kaiba had to first lower his own monster's attack points!
And as if that weren't enough, watch as my Crush Card destroys both monsters on the field as well as every powerful monster in your entire deck! [laughs wickedly]
Oh, man! Kaiba's move was brutal! If I were Ishizu, I'd trade in that Millenium Necklace for a crystal ball or something!
[thinking] Joey's right. If she can see the future, why didn't she see that coming?
[snickering] Now every monster in your deck with over 1500 attack points goes to the graveyard!
Yes, I know.
Looks like you're left with nothing but a deck full of worthless monsters who pose absolutely no threat to me!
According to my Millennium Necklace, I don't need a powerful monster to defeat you. So watch as I stop you from attacking me for three whole turns! For now, I play this… Swords of Revealing Light! You're trapped!
Please enlighten me. If my future's bleak, why are you stalling?
I'm not stalling, Kaiba. Fate dictates our moves, and it's your destiny to lose!
Really?
Really. And I can clearly envision your downfall as you can't help but destroy yourself.
Well, I have a prediction of my own. Once your Swords of Revealing Light are gone, I'll crush you with my Egyptian God card! So while you count on fate to win this, I'll count on brute force!
Fine, and I'll place one card facedown. Now make your move. It's only a matter of time.
[thinking] Virius Cannon! Perfect! She may have prevented my monster from attacking, but I can still play this magic card. And when I do, she won't know what hit her!
[thinking] Watching Ishizu toy with Kaiba's mind is quite amusing. I always knew she had a dark side.
Stand back. It's my move! And I summon Dark Gremlin in defense mode! And then… I'll place this card facedown.
You know, I gotta hand it to her… She's about to get stomped, but that Ishizu's keeping her cool.
Yeah, I'm starting to think that maybe she does know something we don't.
No way, that's just an act.
Act or no act, she's in big trouble.
Yeah, thanks to Kaiba, most of her monsters are in the graveyard now.
Oh, no! [thinking] What if Ishizu does lose? Will the evil within Marik grow even stronger? She joined this tournament to help me defeat her brother and to uncover the good inside him. She has to win!
Your most powerful monsters are in the graveyard, and soon, the rest of your cards will join them!
I'm well aware of your plan, Kaiba.
[thinking] Seto Kaiba is so naive, believing that mere skill can lead to victory in this game. That fool must accept his ancient past in order to win!
[thinking] She has no idea what she's in for!
So, do you still think I'm gonna lose?
I do. You've played into my hands, Kaiba. Now, you’ve sealed your own fate.
Nonsense. I've heard enough of your false predictions!
My predictions are quite real. And now, you've fallen into my trap!
But how?! You're cards…they're gone!
I still have my trap cards! Reveal… Exchange of the Spirit! This trap card will be the beginning of your downward spiral toward defeat, Kaiba! At a cost of 1,000 Life Points, my trap card replaces the cards in each of our decks with those in our graveyards.
[thinking; shocked] But, that leaves me with a deck of only six cards! How could I have let this happen?!
[thinking] By playing Exchange of the Spirit, Ishizu brought all of her powerful monster cards back from the graveyard, and destroyed Kaiba's deck at the same time!
[thinking] Ishizu hasn't lost her touch. She strung Kaiba along just as she used to string me along as a child.
Earlier, Kaiba sent almost every monster in Ishizu's deck right to the graveyard. Now, she gets them all back, along with the magic cards she lost last turn. But Kaiba's not so lucky. He had only six cards in his graveyard. Once he uses them up, his deck will be empty, and he'll lose the duel!
I believe it's my turn, Kaiba.
Then go!
Very well. I summon Kelbek.
It looks like Kaiba's toast. There's no way he can turn this around with just six cards.
He still has that Egyptian God card in his hand, doesn't he? Wouldn't he win if he played that?
Look at you with all the answers.
I'll place one card facedown. That ends my turn.
[thinking] This is MY tournament! If I lose, I'll be humiliated!
Have you accepted the power of my Millennium Necklace, yet, or do you still deny that I have already foreseen your defeat?
Make your move.
Kaiba's Dark Gremlin's standing there doing nothing when everyone knows it's stronger than her monster. So why isn't Kaiba attacking?
Maybe Kaiba doesn't want to attack yet.
That doesn't sound like the Kaiba I know, Yuge.
Yes, well, Kaiba's in quite a tough situation here. He wants to summon his Egyptian God card, but he doesn't have enough monsters to sacrifice, so, he may be planning to sacrifice Ishizu's monsters instead.
Oh! So that's why he's not attacking her.
[thinking] There's only one way for me to win this! I must summon Obelisk the Tormentor! Ishizu will cower in fear before the very Egyptian God card she gave to me!
And now, I summon Zolga, in attack mode! [thinking] Soon, Kaiba will sacrifice my monsters to summon Obelisk, continuing his path to defeat.
[thinking] I may only have a few cards left in my deck, but I have everything I need in order to win this duel!
Kaiba, listen to me! You're in over your head.
Stay out of this.
This tournament of yours is more than just a game! Have you not seen the damage Marik has caused so far, the people he's harmed?! You might be next! There is an ancient magic at work that cannot be denied! And if you continue to ignore it, you're a fool!
All right, let's go! Make your move!
You'll regret those words, Kaiba. Zolga, attack his Dark Gremlin with Cape of Destruction! But that's not all. Come forth, Kelbek, and attack his Life Points directly!
Are you done?
No, Kaiba. Next, I'll place this card facedown. And now I am done.
[thinking] Ishizu's facedown card must be a trap, but what kind of trap is it? Well, I know what I need to do… avoid losing my Life Points long enough to summon Obelisk the Tormentor! Then this duel will be over! [speaking] I hope you're ready… Ready to lose, that is!
[After Kaiba has received a vision of Kisara from the Millenium Rod, prompting him to change tactics in his duel against Ishizu]
Observe as I activate my Magic Card, Silent Doom… Which lets me summon a card from my graveyard. Gadget Soldier in Defense Mode!
[stunned; thinking] This isn't the future my Necklace predicted! Everything has changed!
Before I can summon my Blue-Eyes White Dragon, I must sacrifice two monsters. First this!
Oh, no!
That's right! It's my Egyptian God card!
Ridiculous!
No way, man!
What's he thinking?!
It can't be!
Hear me now! I won't be controlled! I decide my future! So now I sacrifice my monsters! You're so quiet, Ishizu. Where's your magic now? Or have you realized that there's no such thing as destiny?! Now observe as I summon my Blue-Eyes! [summons his Blue-Eyes White Dragon] Show yourself!
So somehow Kaiba was able to change the future, by summoning his Blue-Eyes White Dragon!
But how? What did he see?!
Ishizu [thinking] Something from Kaiba's past must have awakened inside him. For he was the ancient keeper of the Blue-Eyes.
Ishizu, if you could foresee all my moves, how did Blue-Eyes surprise you? Unless of course, you're nothing but a fake, as I suspected!
Ishizu [thinking; smiling] Soon he shall see the truth.
Time to finish you off now! Blue-Eyes White Dragon, attack! Wipe out her Life Points, with White Lightning Attack! Farewell. [Blue-Eyes White Dragon attacks Ishizu directly, dropping her Life Points down to zero, winning him the duel] Victory is mine! That's it!
The winner of this duel is Seto Kaiba!
All right! I knew that you were gonna win this duel all along, big brother!
[thinking] That was insane! Marik's Millennium Rod must have shown Kaiba the secret to winning this duel! I bet it has something to do with the images on that ancient stone tablet. Kaiba's destiny is connected to the Blue-Eyes White Dragon, and I bet that's why he had to play it! Maybe now he'll believe in destiny!
There is hope ahead. For where there is evil, there is also good. Marik was good once. He began life as an innocent child like everyone does, but that innocence disappeared, leaving my brother to walk a path of pure darkness. I remember when this evil was born.
I knew I had a grave mistake. As keepers of the Pharaoh's tomb, we were forbidden to see the world, and I was beginning to understand why. I was about to pay the price for my actions. I exposed Marik to a world he should never have seen. And this caused Marik to reject our family, and his evil side grew.
