[An alert sounds.]
Quickly, Mel! Press the red button! Get the message on the screen.
[Mel presses the button, but nothing happens.]
[The Doctor presses a different button and the message appears.]
Did I? It must be the carrot juice making me colour blind!
In all my travelling throughout the universe, I have battled against evil, against power-mad conspirators. I should have stayed here. The oldest civilisation: decadent, degenerate, and rotten to the core. Power-mad conspirators, Daleks, Sontarans, Cybermen - they're still in the nursery compared to us. Ten million years of absolute power. That's what it takes to be really corrupt.
MMel
Take it easy, Doc...
IThe Inquisitor
Doctor, these unseemly outbursts will not --
Unseemly outbursts?! If I hadn't visited Ravalox, as I then thought of it, the High Council would've kept this outrage buried, as presumably they have for several centuries!
I must agree. You have an endearing habit of blundering into these things, Doctor, and the High Council took full advantage of your blunder.
IThe Inquisitor
Explain that!
They made a deal with the Valeyard - or as I've always known him, the Doctor - to adjust the evidence, in return for which, he was promised the remainder of the Doctor's regenerations.
VThe Valeyard
This is clearly --
Just a minute! Did you call him... the Doctor?!
There is some evil in all of us, Doctor – even you. The Valeyard is an amalgamation of the darker sides of your nature, somewhere between your twelfth and final incarnation, and I may say you do not improve with age.
Madam, this revelation should halt this trial immediately. Surely even Gallifreyan Law must acknowledge that the same person cannot be both prosecutor and defendant!
IThe Inquisitor
The single purpose of this trial is to determine the defendant's guilt or otherwise on the basis of the evidence that has been presented. Anything else is, for the moment, irrelevant!
[utterly speechless] WHAT?!
[Mel and Pex are in a lift which is going up past floor 157]
MMel
Well I suppose it is one way of seeing the Paradise Towers, just so long as nothing goes wrong with the lift.
[The lights begin to flicker]
MMel
Oh, it doesn't matter, really. It's just, it's just if the lift gets completely stuck between floors.
[Floor 174, 173, 174]
MMel
And the lights go out.
[Guess what]
PPex
Oh, I hate the dark.
[after Ace takes drinks to a woman and her daughter, she unpins her bun to release a pony tail]
AAnnouncer
Would the emergency services please report to the docking bay to deal with an icing up. Thank you.
MMel
It's all your fault.
MMel
You were encouraging them. "Oh, ace! Oh, brill!"
WWoman
You girl. [Ace looks behind her] Yes, you, girl. Come here.
WWoman
This milkshake isn't adequately shaken.
That's how they come, missus.
WWoman
It's got lumps in it.
MMel
It's supposed to have lumps in it. That's the ice cream.
WWoman
But we don't want lumps. Shake it some more.
WWoman
[offended] I beg your pardon?
WWoman
I've never been so insulted...
Bet you've never had a milkshake tipped over your head, neither.
[Ace is as good as her word. the woman squeals as the milkshake is tipped onto her and Anderson the bar manager rushes to her]
AAnderson
I'm awfully sorry, Madam. [turns to Ace] That does it, you're fired!
I'm sorry. It won't happen again.
AAnderson
Get out! I've had enough of you!
I promise, it will never happen again!
AAnderson
Get out! You two, out!
AAnderson
Both of you, out!
MMel
All right, I'm going!
AAnderson
You're troublemakers! Hooligans! [turns back to the woman] I do apologise for my staff. I do assure you, those milk shakes don't stain.
[Ace's last act is to tip a milkshake over Anderson's head, too]
MMel
[in a whisper] Ace doesn't have anywhere to go.
Nonsense, it's an idyllic place, Perivale! It's got lush green fields — a village blacksmith, um —
MMel
Doctor, she comes from the twentieth century!
[thinking of 20th century Perivale] Oh...
STSusan Triad
But who am I?!
There is the Toymaker, the god of games. There is Trickster, the god of traps. There is Maestro, the god of music. There is Reprobate, the god of spite.
[Susan falls to her knees, wailing, and Bailey tries to comfort her]
No, no, no! Get away from her! Don't touch her!
There is the Mara, the god of beasts, and the threefold deity of malice and mischief and misery.
VVlinx
Warning. Manifestation.
There are gods of skin and shame and secrets.
[A black cloud is forming around the TARDIS]
MMel
Doctor, she needs you!
There is Incensor, the god of disaster, and her children called Doubt and Dread. And standing on high is the mother and father and other of them all.
Whatever it is... here it comes.
For the god of all gods has returned. And his names are many. His name has been Set, and Seth, and Sithifer. And his one true name for evermore is... Sutekh!
...It was the wrong anagram.
[The cloud materializes into a snarling, jackal-like creature looming over the TARDIS]
MMorris
Probable trap... 100%.
Mel, get away from her. Both of you, don't let her touch you!
MMel
Bailey, get back. Leave her alone.
BBailey
You said you were a doctor! Why don't you try to help...?
[Susan's face snaps up at him, now red-eyed and skull-like]
Sutekh is the god of death, and by his hand, all creation shall fall into dust and ashes and ruin!
[Susan grabs Bailey's arm, and he immediately dissolves into sand; Sutekh laughs cruelly]
STSusan Triad
I bring Sutekh's gift of death... to all humanity.
I am Sutekh, the god of death. I am the night. I am the terror. I am the loss.
[approached by a robed, hooded figure] Mum?
And all life will perish at my hand! [laughs]
STSusan Triad
Did you think I was family, Doctor? I bring Sutekh's gift of death... for you, and for all in your tiny, vile, incessant universe!
[gripping the TARDIS] We meet again, my old friend.
Doctor, what is that thing?
Sutekh. The Death of Ages. The Typhonian Beast. The greatest monster I have ever fought. [sees scenes from their previous encounter on his monitor] The time window has my memories too.
MMel
It's your life, Doctor. It's telling the story of your life.
A long time ago, in the England of 1911, Sutekh had been bound and imprisoned for all eternity, but he rose again, and I defeated him. I cast you into the Time Vortex, I sent you forward to your own death!
Instead, I found a home. I clung to your infernal machine, and for so many years, I hid. I have travelled with you for all this time, riding the spine of your ship, staring into eternity and evolving into my true godhood. Now I know every beat of the heart of your time machine, and I can bend it to my will. It will stand as my altar. The temple of my empire of death. Never yours again, Doctor, never. And I saw, inside the TARDIS, so many secrets. Her name.
The perfect trap. I created an apparition of her universally. Every time we landed, on every single world, I birthed them all. My angels of death, now standing triumphant across the universe. Every living thing is an abomination. I am come to release them into blessed death - and I find that good.
Then I damn you, Sutekh! I damn you in the name of life itself! And I swear to you, with both the hearts of the last of the Time Lords, I will stop you! I will defeat you! And I will turn back death! And why... am I still alive? Killing me is your gift. And believe me, Sutekh, I'm an extinction event. So what is stopping you? Why is the god of death not killing me? What am I missing? I'll tell you a secret, Sutes. This feeling that you have now, this doubt... have you ever felt so alive? And doesn't it feel good?
