Scenes with Perlmutter 8
[M.E. Perlmutter eats his lunch on an examination table in the morgue]
Are you sure it's sanitary to be eating here?
PPerlmutter
Do you know the strength of the disinfectants we use here? This is the cleanest room in the city. [offers his sandwich to Castle]
PPerlmutter
Oh, our intrepid heroes have arrived. And Castle.
Ah, Perlmutter. I will treasure these special moments we’ve shared.
That’s a lace cuff. Hand-stitched. Pearl buttons. I’d say this was circa 1870.
(Everyone looks at him.)
I did a lot of research on the era. I was writing a book. A comedy about the Civil War. Turns out – not so funny.
PPerlmutter
You don’t say.
(Running from the room.) Castle, call for backup!
(He grabs the phone, then looks at the keypad.) How, how do I...?
Nine. (He presses it.) Is there a police code for ‘zombie on the loose’?
Perlmutter. Good to see you.
PPerlmutter
Ah. If only the feeling were mutual.
She was killed by a phaser?!
PPerlmutter
Well, as much as it pains me, Mr. Castle is largely correct. She was killed by a high-intensity laser beam.
A real sci-fi murder at a sci-fi convention. This keeps getting better.
PPerlmutter
Mr. Castle, you're back. But not by popular demand.
Good to see you too, Perlmutter
It looks like she was stabbed with a knife.
PPerlmutter
To the untrained eye, perhaps, but what you don't know about post-mortem analysis could fill a book, Mr. Castle. In fact, it has. Numerous times.
Fine. So, it was not a knife.
PPearlmutter
Ah, wrong again. It was a knife, but "stabbed" implies the blade was thrust into the victim, whereas this wound was produced by it being hurled into her chest.
What is this, Last of the Mohicans?
