[Ben and Sun watch on from afar as Locke talks to Richard in The Others camp]

Who's that man that John's talking to?

Ben

He's Richard Alpert. He's a kind of...advisor. And he has had that job for a very, very long time.

[Sun takes off her rucksack and unzips it talking out the picture of the 1977 Dharma recruits in which Jack, Kate and Hurley feature. She drops the bag and heads into the camp, towards Richard and Locke]

Ben

Sun? What are you...

[Ben follows her]

[To Richard] Where you here in 1977?

Excuse me?

[Sun shows Richard the photo]

These people. Jack Shepard, Kate Austen and Hugo Reyes, they were here with my husband Jin Kwon. Were you here? Do you remember them? Any of them?

Yes, I was here 30 years ago and yes I do remember these people. I remember meeting them very clearly because...I watched them all die.

Ben Linus

When I left the Island, John stepped in. He's the leader now.

Who's that man he's talking to?

Ben Linus

His name is Richard Alpert. He's a kind of... adviser. And he has had that job for a very, very long time.

[Disguised as Locke] Hello, Jacob.

...Guess you found your loophole.

Indeed, I did. And you have no idea what I've gone through to be here.

Ben

You two know each other?

In a manner of speaking. Do what I asked you to, Benjamin.

Benjamin, whatever he's told you, I want you to understand one thing: you have a choice.

Ben

What choice?

You can do what he asks, or you can go, leave us to discuss our... issues.

Ben

Oh... so now, after all this time... you've decided to stop ignoring me. Thirty-five years I lived on this island, and all I ever heard was your name, over and over. Richard would bring me your instructions, all those slips of paper, all those lists... and I never questioned anything. I did as I was told. But when I dared to ask to see you myself, I was told, "You have to wait. You have to be patient." But when he asks to see you, he gets marched up here as if he was Moses. So why him? Hmm? What was it that was so wrong with me? What about me?

[spitefully] What about you?

Ben

...Ah. Well... [He stabs Jacob twice in the chest and watches as he falls to the ground]

[Quietly] They're coming...

What? I can't hear ya.

They're coming!

[With this, The Man in Black looks alarmed. He then kicks Jacob into the fire and he and Ben watch him burn]

[as John Locke] Do you mind if I ask you a question?

Ben Linus

I'm a Pisces.

What happened that day at the cabin? When you first took me to meet Jacob?

Ben Linus

Well, you clearly already know that I was talking to an empty chair, John. That I was pretending. Which is not to say that I wasn't as surprised as you were when things started flying around the room.

But why would go to all the trouble to make something like that up?

Ben Linus

I was embarrassed. I didn't want you to know that I had never seen Jacob. So yes, I lied. That's what I do.

Alright, then.

Ben Linus

Why do you want me to kill Jacob, John?

Because, despite your loyal service to this Island, you got cancer. You had to watch your own daughter gunned down right in front of you. And your reward for those sacrifices? You were banished. And you did all this in the name of a man you'd never even met. So the question is, Ben, why the hell wouldn't you want to kill Jacob?

Ben Linus

[over the walkie-talkie to Frank] Frank, how's it going over there? What's your timetable?

[shouting] Don't bother me!

[Frank tosses the walke-talkie away]

Ben Linus

Sounds like they're making progress.

Ben

What are you?

[disguised as John Locke] I'm not a "what", Ben, I'm a "who".

Ben

You're the monster.

Let's not resort to name calling.

Ben

You used me. You couldn't kill him yourself, so you made me do it.

I didn't make you do anything. You should know, he was very confused when you killed him.

Ben

I seriously doubt that Jacob was ever confused.

I'm not talking about Jacob. I'm talking about John Locke. Do you want to know what he was thinking while you choked the life out of him, Benjamin? What the last thought that ran through his head was? "I don't understand." Isn't that just the saddest thing you've ever heard? But it's fitting in a way because when John first came to the island, he was a very sad man. A victim shouting at the world for being told what he couldn't do, even though they were right. He was weak and pathetic, and irreparably broken, but despite all of that, there was something admirable about him. He was the only one of them who didn't want to leave. The only one who realized how pitiful the life he left behind actually was.

Ben

What do you want?

Well that's the great irony here, Ben, because I want the one thing that John Locke didn't. I want to go home.

[Sun, Ilana, Ben, and Frank have put John Locke's body in a grave on the beach]

Does anyone want to say something? Did anyone know him?[No one steps up]

Ben

Okay, I knew him. John Locke was...a believer. He was a great man. A much better man than I ever was...And I'm very sorry I murdered him.

'[Everyone is shocked to hear this. Ben and Frank start filling the grave]

[Under his breath] Weirdest damn funeral I've ever been to...

[Ben rummages through Sawyer's old stash at the beach camp. He finds a book and a couple of pornographic magazines]

Ben

The stuff people bring on their travels...

[He continues to look and finds a bottle of water carrying the Oceanic Logo on its label. Frank Lapidus approaches]

Ben

Oceanic! You know I remember that plane breaking apart as if it were yesterday.

You're sounding a little nostalgic there.

Ben

Maybe I am.

You know I was supposed to be flying it? Oceanic 815?

[Ben looks at Frank shocked by the news]

Ben

And why didn't you?

I overslept. [Pause] You know I keep thinking about how different my life would have been if I was on the plane.

Ben

How different would it have been? The island still got you in the end, didn't it?

[Miles approaches Ben who is digging his own grave]

Hey I thought you might want something to eat. I'm afraid all we have is banana and these little green bean things.

Ben

You know I'm not really that hungry.

Suit yourself.

[Miles starts to walk away]

Ben

Miles! You know you once asked me for 3.2 Million Dollars?

Yeah.

Ben

You still want it?

Why would I want your money when there's two people buried right over there called Nikki and Paulo who are buried with 8 Million Dollars worth of diamonds.

Ben

Miles please? If you help free me, when we all leave this place I'll get it for you, all of it. I have contacts that will get it for me.

Yeah right. What you going to do? Write me a check on this banana leaf?

What are you waiting for?

BLBenjamin Linus

I want to explain.

Explain what?

BLBenjamin Linus

I want to explain that I know what you're feeling.

You have no idea what I'm feeling.

BLBenjamin Linus

I watched my daughter Alex die in front of me. And it was my fault. I had a chance to save her, but I chose the island... Over her. All in the name of Jacob. I sacrificed everything for him... And he didn't even care. Yeah, I stabbed him. I was... so angry.. Confused. I... I was terrified that I was about to lose the only thing that had ever mattered to me... my power. But the thing that really mattered... Was already gone. I'm sorry that I killed Jacob. I am. And I do not expect you to forgive me because... I can never forgive myself.

Then what do you want?

BLBenjamin Linus

Just... let me leave.

Where will you go?

BLBenjamin Linus

To Locke.

Why?

BLBenjamin Linus

Because he's the only one that'll have me.

I'll have you.
