[Noticing a new Basestar-size contact appearing on DRADIS that uses Colonial Fleet signals, Adama orders a hold for jumping and has Dualla hail the ship]
Attention unknown vessel, this is the Battlestar Galactica. Identify yourself or we will fire upon you.
Range now 1700, sir. [long pause]
RVRadio Voice
This is the Battlestar Pegasus to the ship claiming to be the Galactica. Please respond.
Pegasus? How could that be? The entire fleet was destroyed.
CWCDR William Adama
[orders Dualla] Give me direct contact. [speaks] Pegasus, this is Galactica actual. Authenticate identity with recognition codes immediately.
[sees panel] Sir. I'm receiving Colonial recognition codes. They're authentic.
Galactica, this is Pegasus actual, Adama, is that you?
Adama
Cain. What a pleasure to hear your voice.
[to XO Jack Fisk] Disengage.
JFJack Fisk
Red Team, disengage. Red Team, disengage.
Commander, I don't know what to say. This is a miracle.
Adama
You took the words right out of my mouth. [orders crew] Step down to Condition One throughout the fleet.
Galactica, Apollo, you are not going to believe what I'm looking at out here. It's like a dream. It is a dream. [laughs and smiles at seeing Battlestar Pegasus and escort fighters]
[In different locations, Commander Adama and Admiral Cain each plot the assassination of the other]
(to her Executive Officer, Colonel Fisk) Jack, I want to transfer a detachment of marines to Galactica and I want you to hand-pick them. Completely reliable. Completely loyal. Razors.
Commander William Adama
I have a mission for you, Kara.
KTCaptain Kara "Starbuck" Thrace
Anything for you. You know that.
Adama
Don't accept too quickly. You won't like this one. I don't like it, but I've decided that it has to be done.
I'm transferring you to Galactica as well. I'll tell Adama that you're there to be my eyes and ears. He'll hate it. He'll think you're my spy and try to freeze you out of decision-making, but he'll accept it. Now I want you to stay in CIC throughout the attack. Stay with Adama.
Adama
After the attack is completed and you've accounted for your pilots, I want you to land your bird on the Pegasus and report directly to CIC. You'll take Lee with you. He'll watch your back.
Position Marines in key areas throughout the ship and keep a squad posted just outside CIC.
Adama
There'll be the normal chaos and emotional high after the attack.
They'll be slapping each other on the back, celebrating the victory.
Adama
That'll keep their guard down.
Adama
I will ask for you on the wireless.
I will call you directly and when I have you on the line, and you hear me give the command "Execute Case Orange"...
Adama
When you hear me say "Downfall"...
...you are to signal the Marines to terminate Adama's command. Starting with Adama.
Adama
...I want you to pull out your weapon and shoot Admiral Cain in the head.
[After a bout of negotiations with Sesha Abinell, leader of the Cloud 9 terrorists, Adama briefly confers with Tigh.]
Adama
Saul, we can't give her Sharon. I hope you know that, right?
I know that. Against our dealing with the terrorists... if we start now, it'll open the floodgates; and it will never stop. And by the way, it's not Sharon. It's a frakking Cylon.
Adama
You don't think I know that?
I think there's part of you that looks into that thing's eyes and still sees that young girl that reported aboard two years ago as a rook pilot. Well, it's not. It never was. Bill, it's a machine.
[Following the Cylon ambush of Pegasus and the death of Commander Barry Garner (Pegasus's commanding officer).]
Adama
In your opinion, off the record, what was Garner's flaw?
He was used to working with machines. Command is about people.
Adama
Remember that, as you take command of "The Beast". Garner was my decision; his failures, my responsibility. Don't let me fail a second time. Congratulations, Commander.
[Roslin is trying to control her pre-debate giggles.]
Adama
You just have to really try to think about something serious. That always helps, right?
Adama
Well, like, uh... [they look at each other and crack up laughing]
[Admiral Adama, remarking to newly-elected President Gaius Baltar that he needs to pay attention to a possible security risk.]
Adama
You're not listening.
I don't have to listen. I'm the President.
Adama
I'll see you at the rendezvous point.
Eighteen hours. Try not to be late.
Adama
I'm getting old; I'm a little slow, but I'll be there.
Gods, I wish I could talk you out of this...
Adama
You can't. You tried.
Adama
Don't. Don't make me cry on my own hangar deck.
[in theGalactica CIC, as four Cylon baseships attack]
Admiral Adama
[to a crewman at a terminal] Pass up the cord! Connect the other side right away!
AKCaptain Aaron Kelly
We've lost maneuvering thrusters!
KACaptain Karl "Helo" Agathon
Can't take any more hits to port or we're looking at explosive decompression, sections 36 to 48!
Admiral Adama
Jump drives? [Helo grimly shakes his head and sadly lowers his gaze to the floor] Then that's it. It's been an honor.
I'll tell you a dirty little secret. The toughest part of getting played is losing your dignity. Feeling like you are not worth the oxygen you are sucking down. You get used to it. You start to believe it. You start to love it. It's like a bottle that never runs dry, you can keep reaching for it over and over and over again...
Adama
So how do you put that bottle away, Saul?
I don't know. One day, you just decide to... get up and walk out of your room.
[Adama and Tigh discuss the food shortage]
Adama
I hear they're still eating paper. Is that true?
[The two break down into helpless laughter]
