[Locke, Sawyer, Juliet, Miles and Jin finally reached "The Orchid"]

Locke

We're here.

Thank God. What are the odds that we would end up in the same time as this thing?

[Time shifts and "The Orchid" disappears]

You just had to say somethin'.

[Locke, Sawyer, Juliet, Miles and Jin finally find the well Charlotte talked about]

You're going down there?

Locke

Aha...

What exactly are you hoping to find?

Locke

A way off the Island.

Expecting a subway!?

Locke

[Smiling] Goodbye, James.

Nobody remembers you being on the plane

Locke

Well, I don't remember being on it either.

What do you remember?

Locke

I remember a lot.

Like why you're dressed up so nice?

Locke

No, but I can guess.

Please. Guess.

Locke

I think this suit is what they were gonna bury me in.

Sorry?

Locke

You asked what I remembered. I remember dying.

John Locke

"Jeremy Bentham"?

He was a British philosopher. Your parents had a sense of humor when they named you, so why can't I? This should be money enough for now. The phone's international. If you need to reach me, for anything, just press 2-3. The folder contains your people's whereabouts, everyone that was on the Island that left.

John Locke

You've been watching them?

I'm deeply invested in the future of the Island, John. So, yes, I've been watching them. I wouldn't mention I'm involved in this. I can't imagine what they think of me, having listened to Benjamin's lies.

John Locke

How do I know that you're not the one who's lying?

I haven't tried to kill you. Would you say the same for him?

[Locke wakes up in a hospitel bed, with Jack staring darkly at him]

What are you doing here?

John Locke

Jack, how did you find me?

You were in a car accident and you were brought into my hospital. What are you doing here?

John Locke

We have to go back.

[laughs bitterly] Of course. Of course we do.

John Locke

Jack, the people I left behind need our help. We're supposed to go back--

--because it's our destiny? How many times are you gonna say that to me, John?

John Locke

How can you not see it? Of all the hospitals they could've brought me to, I end up here. You don't think that's fate?

Your car accident was on the west side of Los Angeles. You being brought into my hospital isn't fate, John. It's probability.

John Locke

You don't understand. It wasn't an accident. Someone is trying to kill me.

Why? Why would someone try to kill you?

John Locke

Because they don't want me to succeed. They wanna stop me. They don't want me to get back because I'm important.

[beat] Have you ever stopped to think that these delusions that you're special aren't real? That maybe there's nothing important about you at all? Maybe you are just a lonely old man that crashed on an Island. That's it. [standing] Good-bye, John.

[Richard Alpert sits in his tent fixing a model ship in what appears to be a large glass bottle. An Other enters his tent to inform him of John Locke's return]

OOther

Richard. He's back!

[They exit Richard's tent, coming up the beach is John Locke carrying a boar over his shoulders]

John Locke

I brought dinner!

[Confused and shocked] John?

[Locke chucks the dead boar in the sand]

John Locke

Hello Richard. It's been a while.

It's...been three years. John what happened? Where were you?

John Locke

I'll explain that on the way.

On the way? On the way where?

John Locke

It's going to be night soon and you and I have an errand to run and we don't have a lot of time. [Pause] What's wrong?

There's something different about you.

John Locke

I have a purpose now...

Locke

What did you lose?

Excuse me?

Locke

They lost one of my bags. What about you?

You wouldn't believe me if I told you.

Locke

Try me.

They lost my father.

Locke

I'm sorry?

He died a couple of days ago in Australia, and I flew down to get him.

Locke

My condolences. [screaming to Oceanic employee handing him his lost luggage form] Yo!

The coffin was supposed to go on the plane in Sydney, but it didn't. Apparently he is somewhere in transit, which is their way of saying that they have no idea where the hell he is.

Locke

Well, how could they know?

They're the ones who checked him in. I mean, they have to have some kind of tracking system.

Locke

No, I'm not talking about the coffin. How could they know where he is? They didn't lose your father, they just lost his body. [Jack ponders this as Locke smiles at him] Either way, your story beats the hell out of mine. All that was in my suitcase was a bunch of knives.

Some kind of salesman?

Locke

Yeah, something like that. Well, it was nice talking to ya, but I hope you find that coffin.

I hope you find your knives.

Locke

Thanks.

You mind if I ask what happened to you? I'm only asking because I'm a spinal surgeon. I didn't mean --

Locke

No, don't worry about it. Surgery isn't going to do anything to help me. My condition is irreversible.

Nothing is irreversible. [hands him his card] If you ever want a consult, just give me a call. It's on the house.

Locke

Well thanks. [reads his card] Jack Shephard, I'm John, John Locke. [shakes Jack's hand]

It's nice to meet you, John.

Locke

It's nice to meet you, too.

[After Jack heals him of his paralysis, Locke remembers his past life]

Locke

[Brought to tears] Did you see that?

See what? [Locke looks at Jack, overjoyed to see him; Jack has a flash of when he and Locke opened the Hatch but ignores it, confused] Mr. Locke, you need to lie back and take it easy.

Locke

[Trying to get up, very emotional] No, what we need to do is go.

No, you can't get up.

Locke

[Smiles happily] Will you come with me?

We are not going anywhere. You've just had extensive spinal surgery. Now you need to lie back. I- I need to see my son.[Starts to leave]

Locke

You don't have a son.

What?

Locke

You don't have a son, Jack.

[Jack seems confused and starts to leave]

Locke

Jack! I hope someone can do for you what you just did for me.

Get some rest, Mr. Locke.

[In the sideways world, Locke arrives outside of the church. He finds Ben waiting]

Locke

Hello, Benjamin.

Hello, John.

Locke

Is everyone else inside?

I believe most of them are.

[Locke starts to wheel his way toward the entrance]

I'm sorry, John. I'm sorry for what I did to you. I was angry. Selfish. I wanted everything you had.

Locke

What did I have?

You were special. And I wasn't.

Locke

Well if it helps, I forgive you, Ben.

Thank you, John. It does help.

Locke

Are you going to come in?

I'm not quite ready to leave yet. I have some things I still need to work out here.[Locke nods and begins to leave] You know, I don't think you need to be in that chair anymore.

[Locke pauses, unsure; slowly, he rises, steps out of the chair and watches as it rolls away]

Locke

Bye, Ben.[Ben nods, as Locke goes inside the church]
