Jacob didn't say anything to me about Desmond.
Doesn't sound like he said anything about anything.
That's kind of true, dude. He's worse than Yoda.
All right, ya'll head to your heart of the island and I'll go back and get the magic leprechaun out of that well.
If we leave a trail can you catch up with us?
[nods] Hell, yeah, I can.
[to Kate] I'd ask you along, but that'd take all of the fun out of me telling you you can't come.
[smiles] I guess I'll just have to resist the urge to follow you anyway.
Why did you take the job, Jack?
Because I was supposed to.
Why? Because some stranger wrote our names on a wall?
I took it because the island's all I've got left. It's the only thing in my life I haven't managed to ruin.
You haven't ruined anything. Nothing is irreversible.
This would be so sweet if we weren't all about to die.
[Jack's group confronts The Man in Black's group in a clearing]
Well this oughta be interesting.
[Immediately grabs Sawyer's rifle and opens fire on MIB] YOU KILLED THEM!
[MIB is not phased at all, Sawyer restrains Kate]
I'd save your bullets.[Confronts Jack] So it's you?
Jacob being who he is, I was expected to be a little more surprised. You're sort of the obvious choice, don't you think?
He didn't choose me. I volunteered.
I assume you're here to stop me?
I can't stop you. In fact I uh, I wanna go with you.
I'm sorry Jack, I think you're a little confused about what I came here to do.
No I'm not. You're going to the far side of the bamboo forest, to the place I've sworn that I'll protect. And then you think you're going to destroy the Island.
[Smiles]That's right, because that's not what's going to happen.
And what's gonna happen, Jack?
[Visibly intimidated]... How are you planning to do that?
Alright then, let's get on with it.
[Jack and The Man in Black are lowering Desmond into the heart of the Island]
This remind you of anything, Jack?
You and me, Desmond going down into a hole in the ground. If there was a button down there we could argue whether or not to push it. It'd be just like old times.
You're not John Locke. You disrespect his memory by wearing his face, but you're nothing like him. Turns out he was right about most everything. Just wish I could have told him that while he was still alive.
He wasn't right about anything, Jack. And as soon as this Island drops into the ocean and you drop with it, you're going to realize that.
Well I guess we'll just have to see which one of us is right.
[holding a knife to Jack's throat] I want you to know, Jack, you died for nothing!
[shoots MIB in the back] I saved you a bullet!
[Jack gets to his feet; MIB looks out at the Island as it slowly crumbles]
[Jack kicks The Man in Black over the cliffs, killing him]
[After Jack heals him of his paralysis, Locke remembers his past life]
[Brought to tears] Did you see that?
See what? [Locke looks at Jack, overjoyed to see him; Jack has a flash of when he and Locke opened the Hatch but ignores it, confused] Mr. Locke, you need to lie back and take it easy.
[Trying to get up, very emotional] No, what we need to do is go.
[Smiles happily] Will you come with me?
We are not going anywhere. You've just had extensive spinal surgery. Now you need to lie back. I- I need to see my son.[Starts to leave]
You don't have a son, Jack.
[Jack seems confused and starts to leave]
Jack! I hope someone can do for you what you just did for me.
Get some rest, Mr. Locke.
[is caught trying to get candy from a vending machine] It's okay. I'm a cop.
Maybe you should read the machine its rights.
If you unplug it, and then you plug it back in again, the candy just drops right down.
Yes, and its technically legal.
I'll give it a shot. [unplugs and cuts off power to the room] Oops.
It worked. [hands the candy bar to him and remembers their life on the island]
We should get coffee sometime.
I'd love to, but that machine ate my dollar. I only got one left.
[smiles] We could go dutch.
[In the sideways world, Locke arrives outside of the church. He finds Ben waiting]
I believe most of them are.
[Locke starts to wheel his way toward the entrance]
I'm sorry, John. I'm sorry for what I did to you. I was angry. Selfish. I wanted everything you had.
You were special. And I wasn't.
Well if it helps, I forgive you, Ben.
Thank you, John. It does help.
Are you going to come in?
I'm not quite ready to leave yet. I have some things I still need to work out here.[Locke nods and begins to leave] You know, I don't think you need to be in that chair anymore.
[Locke pauses, unsure; slowly, he rises, steps out of the chair and watches as it rolls away]
Bye, Ben.[Ben nods, as Locke goes inside the church]
No, no way. I'm not going to let you die.
Hurley, I'm already dead.
You said you would protect the Island.
And that's what I'm doing.
You're committing suicide!
I'm not. This is the way its supposed to happen. This is what I'm supposed to do.
You're not supposed to die! The island needs you!
It needs to be you, Hugo.
[Overcome with emotion]...I can't...It's supposed to be you.
No it was only supposed to be me so I could do this. But if someone has to take care of it, if someone has to protect it, then it should be you. Hurley, I believe in you.
...All right, I'll take it. But its only temporary, as soon as you get that light back on, I'm pulling you straight up and giving it rightt back to you, deal?
I think Desmond's gonna be okay.
...Jack's gone.[Breaks down in tears]
But it's my job now! What the hell am I gonna do?
I think you'll do what you do best: Take care of people. And you can start by helping Desmond go home.
How? People can't leave the Island.
That was how Jacob ran things. Maybe there's another way, a better way.
I could sorta use someone with, like, experience. For a little while. So...will you help me, Ben?
[Jack has entered the back of the church in the sideways world. He finds his father's coffin inside. Upon touching it the memories of his life on the Island come rushing back. He then opens the coffin and finds it is empty; he closes it disappointed]
...I don't understand. You died.
Then how are you here right now?
[They hug as Jack becomes wracked with emotion] It's ok, it's ok, son. It's ok.
[Laughs] I sure hope so. I'm real, you're real, everything that happened to you is real. The people in that church, they're real.
And everyone else, they're all dead too?
Everyone dies, Jack. Some before you, some long after you.
Well, there is no NOW here.
This is the place that you all made together so that you could find one another. The most important part of your life was the time that you spent with these people. That's why all of you are here. Nobody does it alone, Jack. You needed all of them and they needed you.
Kate. She said we were leaving.
Not leaving, no. Moving on.
