MThe Master

Nobody could be more devoted to the cause of peace than I! As a commissioner of Earth's Interplanetary Police, I have devoted my life to the cause of law and order; And law and order can only exist in a time of peace.

Are you feeling all right, old chap?

Why have you brought me here?

MThe Master

As a scapegoat for the killing of the President! Who else but you, Doctor? So despicably good. So insufferably compassionate... I wanted you to die in ignominious shame and disgrace!

MThe Master

Doctor, my congratulations, you're just in time for the end!

You're insane! You're insane, do you hear me? You're releasing a force that nothing can stop!

MThe Master

Take the rod. You could take it with you to your grave, except that none of you will need a grave!

If you undo that, you'll die as surely as any of us!

MThe Master

You can do better than that, Doctor. Even in extremis, I wear the Sash of Rassilon!

Yes! And the president was wearing it when he was shot down! The sash won't protect you! It's damaged!

MThe Master

You lie!

There must be something I can do, tell me!

Too late, Peri. Going soon. Time to say goodbye.

Don't give up! You can't leave me now!

I might regenerate! I don't know.

(off-screen) Please...

Feels different this time.

What was it you always told me, Doctor? Brave heart? You'll survive, Doctor.

You must survive. Too many of your enemies would delight in your death, Doctor.

KKamelion

Turlough speaks the truth, Doctor.

You're needed. You mustn't die, Doctor.

Too many of your enemies would be delighted.

You know that, Doctor.

You mustn't die, Doctor.

You know that, Doctor.

Adric?

You know that, Doctor.

You mustn't die, Doctor.

MThe Master

No, my dear Doctor, you must die! Die, Doctor! DIE, DOCTOR! [laughs wickedly]

In all my travelling throughout the universe, I have battled against evil, against power-mad conspirators. I should have stayed here. The oldest civilisation: decadent, degenerate, and rotten to the core. Power-mad conspirators, Daleks, Sontarans, Cybermen - they're still in the nursery compared to us. Ten million years of absolute power. That's what it takes to be really corrupt.

Take it easy, Doc...

IThe Inquisitor

Doctor, these unseemly outbursts will not --

Unseemly outbursts?! If I hadn't visited Ravalox, as I then thought of it, the High Council would've kept this outrage buried, as presumably they have for several centuries!

MThe Master

I must agree. You have an endearing habit of blundering into these things, Doctor, and the High Council took full advantage of your blunder.

IThe Inquisitor

Explain that!

MThe Master

They made a deal with the Valeyard - or as I've always known him, the Doctor - to adjust the evidence, in return for which, he was promised the remainder of the Doctor's regenerations.

VThe Valeyard

This is clearly --

Just a minute! Did you call him... the Doctor?!

MThe Master

There is some evil in all of us, Doctor – even you. The Valeyard is an amalgamation of the darker sides of your nature, somewhere between your twelfth and final incarnation, and I may say you do not improve with age.

Madam, this revelation should halt this trial immediately. Surely even Gallifreyan Law must acknowledge that the same person cannot be both prosecutor and defendant!

IThe Inquisitor

The single purpose of this trial is to determine the defendant's guilt or otherwise on the basis of the evidence that has been presented. Anything else is, for the moment, irrelevant!

[utterly speechless] WHAT?!

ADAlbert Dumfries, MP

Excuse me, Prime Minister, but do you mind my asking, what is that?

MThe Master

[muffled from his gas mask] A gas mask.

AAlbert

I beg your pardon?

MThe Master

[lifts gas mask] It's a gas mask. [lowers the mask over his face]

ADAlbert Dumfries, MP

Yes, but why are you wearing it?

MThe Master

[muffled] Well, because of the gas!

ADAlbert Dumfries, MP

I'm sorry?

MThe Master

[lifts up his mask] Because of the gas! [lowers it]

ADAlbert Dumfries, MP

What gas?

MThe Master

[muffled] This gas.

[Toxic gas sprays from the speakers on the table]

Albert Dumfries, MP (dying): You're insane!

(The Master grins and gives him a double thumbs-up, agreeing with him)

It's that sound, it's stuck in your head, what if I could help-

[The Master abruptly cuts him off]

MThe Master

Oh, how to shut him up? I know, memory lane! Professor Lazarus, remember him, with his, "Genetic Manipulation Device"? [Flashback appears] Did you think little Tish got that job merely by coinsidence? I've been laying traps for you all this time, and if I can concentrate all of that Lazarus Technology into one...little...Screwdriver. [The Doctor Stares, shocked.] But, oooh, if only I had The Doctor's biological code...W-wait a minute, I do! [Clicks] I've got his hand! And if Lazarus made himself younger, then what if we reverse it, another, what? Hundred years? [The Master violently points his laser screwdriver at the Doctor and starts aging him.]

[The Master has just been shot by his wife]

MThe Master

Dying in your arms. Happy now?

You're not dying, don't be stupid. It's only a bullet. Just regenerate.

MThe Master

No.

One little bullet, come on.

MThe Master

I guess you don't know me so well. I refuse.

Regenerate. Just regenerate. Please. Please! Just regenerate! Come on!

MThe Master

And spend the rest of my life imprisoned with you?!

[breaking down] But you've got to. Come on. It can't end like this. You and me, all the things we've done. [beginning to cry] Axons, remember the Axons? And the Daleks? We're the only two left. I have no one else. REGENERATE!

MThe Master

[weakly] How about that? I win! Will it stop, Doctor? The drumming. Will it stop?

[The Master dies. The Doctor screams in anguish.]

[Aboard Daniel Barton's private jet]

Never been good at sprinting?

OO

I was the last one in every race at school.

No no no, I read your file. You were a champion sprinter.

OO

[thinks for a moment... then smiles] Got me. Well done.

What's going on, Doc?

I don't know.

OO

You'd best take a look out the window.

[They do so, seeing O's house flying next to them]

How is your house out there?

OO

It's all a bit Wicked Witch of the West, but you get the gist. Maybe. Maybe not. Oh come on, Doctor, catch up. You can do it.

[shocked] Ohhh...

OO

[laughs gleefully] That's my name, and that is why I chose it. So satisfying! Doctor, I did say, "Look for the spymaster". Or should I say, spy... Master? [gives a little wave] Hi.

[horrified] You can't be.

MThe Master

Oh, I can be. I very much am.

MThe Master

When I arrange for your death, I expect you to stay dead. How did you escape? How did you end up here?

[realizing] Ah... you don't know. You're not in control of those creatures. I bet you don't even know what they are.

MThe Master

They're called the Kasaavin, and we have interests in common.

You, Barton, and a race you barely know. That's one uneasy alliance. Trust each other, do ya?

MThe Master

Oh, completely. By the way, I bring news from home.

AAda

Down, Doctor! [uses the steam machine gun to fire at the Master]

IInventor

This is not designed for use by a young lady!

AAda

Nothing is! And yet, I find myself more than capable! [fires off several more shots, hitting the Master in the arm] All of you, out!

Ada, I really do not approve!

MThe Master

Run all you like, Doctor! You won't get far without a TARDIS!

Don't have a TARDIS. [Ada pulls the pin on a grenade and hurls it at the Master, forcing him to dodge] Do have an Ada.

[The Doctor and the Master have agreed to meet at the top of the Eiffel Tower.]

It's cold up here... It's worse than Jodrell Bank!

MThe Master

Did I ever apologize for that?

No.

MThe Master

Good.
