RRose
But what do I do every day, Mum? Get up. Go to work. Catch the bus, eat chips, and go to bed.
It's what the rest of us do.
Because you’re better than us?
RRose
No, I didn't mean that. But it was, it was a better life. I don’t mean all the travelling and seeing aliens and spaceships and things. That don't matter. The Doctor showed me a better way of living your life. [to Mickey] You know, he showed you too. [continues] You don't just give up. You don’t just let things happen. You make a stand. You say "no." You have the guts to do what's right when everyone else just runs away, and I just can't...! [runs out in tears]
Rose Tyler. I was going to take you to so many places. Barcelona. Not the city Barcelona, the planet Barcelona. You'd love it. Fantastic place! They've got dogs with no noses! [Laughs] Imagine how many times a day you end up telling that joke and it's still funny!
RRose
Then... why can't we go?
Maybe you will, and maybe I will. But not like this.
RRose
You're not making sense.
I might never make sense again! I might have two heads, or no head. Imagine me with no head, ha! And don't say that's an improvement... But it's a bit dodgy, this process. You never know what you're going to end up with. [he gasps as a burst of regenerative energy erupts from his torso]
RRose
Doctor, tell me what's going on.
I absorbed all the energy of the time vortex, and no one's meant to do that! [chuckles, but then looks up at her seriously] Every cell in my body's dying.
RRose
Can't you do something?
Yeah. I'm doing it now! Time Lords have this little trick. It's sort of a way of cheating death. Except... it means I'm going to change. And I'm not going to see you again. Not like this. Not with this daft old face. And before I go--
Rose, before I go, I just want to tell you you were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And do you know what? So was I! [The Doctor regenerates.]
I was dying. To save my own life, I changed my body — every single cell, but… still me.
RTRose Tyler
(whispering) But… you can’t be.
Then how could I remember this? Very first word I ever said to you, trapped in that cellar, surrounded by shop window dummies, ooh… such a long time ago. I took your hand and I said one word, just one word, I said… “Run!”
[Harriet Jones has just ordered the Torchwood institute to destroy the Sycorax spaceship, despite the fact that they have agreed to leave Earth, never to return]
RRose
What is that?! What's happening?!
[outraged, glaring at Harriet] That was murder.
That was defence. It's adapted from alien technology. A ship that fell to Earth ten years ago.
You said yourself, Doctor, they'd go back to the stars and tell others about the Earth. I'm sorry, Doctor, but you're not here all the time; you come and go. It happened today. Mister Llewellyn and the Major, they were murdered. They died right in front of me while you were sleeping. In which case, we have to defend ourselves.
[disgusted] "Britain's Golden Age".
I gave them the wrong warning. I should have told them to run, as fast as they can, run and hide, because the monsters are coming: the human race!
Those are the people I represent. I did it on their behalf.
Then I should have stopped you.
What does that make you, Doctor? Another alien threat?
[stepping towards her] Don't challenge me, Harriet Jones! 'Cause I'm a completely new man! I could bring down your government with a single word!
[glaring back at him] You're the most remarkable man I've ever met. But I don't think you're quite capable of that.
No, you're right, not a single word. Just six.
Six. [walks over to Alex and whispers to him] Don't you think she looks tired? [glares at Harriet one more time before leaving with Rose, Jackie and Mickey]
[rushing over to Alex] What did he say?
[nervously] Oh, well, nothing, really--
[frantically] What did he say?!
Uh, nothing, I don't know--
[Rose and Jackie glance back at her as she calls after them, but do not answer and continue following the Doctor away]
[hysterical] Doctor! Doctor, what did you--?! What was that?! What did he say?! What did you say, Doctor?! Doctor! [quietly, starting to look remorseful] I'm sorry.
CICassandra-in-Doctor
Ooh, my. Well this is... different.
CICassandra-in-Doctor
Goodness me, I'm a man! Yum! So many parts... and hardly used. [clutches the Doctor's chest] Oh, two hearts! [dancing to the dual heartbeat] Oh, baby, I'm beating out a samba!
CICassandra-in-Doctor
Oh, he's slim. [turn to Rose] And a little bit foxy! [raises eyebrows] You thought so, too. I've been inside your head, you've been looking. You like it.
[Rose and the Doctor kneel before Queen Victoria who is armed with a sword]
By the power invested in me by the Church and the state, I dub thee [taps the sword on the Doctor's shoulders] Sir Doctor of Tardis. By the power invested in me by the Church and the state, I dub thee [does the same for Rose] Dame Rose of the Powell Estate. You may stand.
[Rose and the Doctor stand up]
RTRose Tyler
They're never gonna believe this back home.
Your Majesty, you said last night about receiving no message from the Great Beyond. I think your husband cut that diamond to save your life. He's protecting you even now, Ma'am, from beyond the grave
[sternly] Indeed, then you may think on this, also; that I am not amused.
RTRose Tyler
[jubilantly] Yes!
[The Doctor sighs at having lost his bet with Rose]
Not remotely amused. [The Doctor and Rose straighten their faces] And henceforth...I banish you.
I have rewarded you, Sir Doctor, and now you're exiled from this empire, never to return. [she steps towards Rose and the Doctor] I don’t know what you are, the two of you, or where you’re from, but I know that you consort with stars and magic, and think it fun. But your world is steeped in terror, and blasphemy, and death, and I will not allow it. You will leave these shores and you will reflect, I hope, on how you came to stray so far from all that is good, and how much longer you may survive this...terrible life. [she angrily steps away from them] Now leave my world, and never return!
The monsters and the Doctor. It seems you cannot have one without the other.
RRose
Tell me about it. The thing is, you weren't supposed to have either. Those creatures are messing with history. None of this was ever supposed to happen to you.
"Supposed to happen"? What does that mean? It happened, child, and I would not have it any other way. One may tolerate a world of demons for the sake of an angel.
If you want to know what's going on, work in the kitchen.
[The Doctor gestures towards one of the guests, the President of Great Britain.]
According to Lucy, that man over there...
RTRose Tyler
Who is Lucy?
She's carrying the salmon pinwheels. [nods towards a waitress on the other side of the room]
RTRose Tyler
Oh, that's Lucy, isn't it?
Yeah. Lucy says that that is the President of Great Britain.
RTRose Tyler
What, there's a "President", not a "Prime Minister"?
RTRose Tyler
Or maybe Lucy's just a bit thick.
RRose
Leave him alone. What's he done wrong?
JJake
Oh, you know, just laid a trap that's wiped out the government and left Lumic in charge.
If I was part of all that, do you think I'd leave my wife inside?
RRicky
Maybe your plan went wrong. Still gives us the right to execute you, though.
Talk about executions, you'll make me your enemy. And take some really good advice: you don't wanna do that!
RRose
[about Lumic] Why's he doing it?
He's dying. This all started out as a way of prolonging life, of keeping the brain alive at any cost.
RRose
[to the Doctor] The thing is, I've seen Cybermen before, haven't I? The head. Those handle shapes in Van Statten's museum...
Ah, there are Cybermen in our universe. They started on an ordinary world just like this, then swarmed across the galaxy. This lot are a parallel version, and they're starting from scratch right here on Earth.
