S1 E15Unfinished Business

[A mysterious woman has just shot Vadim in the head with an assault rifle and is now aiming it at Deaton, who has gotten into a defensive position]

Easy, Doctor. I know you have skills, but I'm pretty sure I can shoot faster than you can hit. [She pauses for a beat] Do you know who I am?

I know what you're called... The Desert Wolf.

[Sheriff Stilinski has just arrived at the McCall House to find a worried Melissa in the doorway]

I thought you said you, uh, you had a situation?

[nervously] Yes, but complicated. If you come in, I need you to leave your badge at the door.

[confused] Uh... Literally or figuratively?

[unamused] Both would be preferable.

[Theo has just finished flipping Stiles' overturned Jeep back on its wheels when they both hear a report on Stiles' police radio]

DDispatcher

[on radio] Suspect in 1-8-7 is in custody and en route to station. Suspect's name is Yukimura, Kira.

[worriedly] What's a 1-8-7?

[shocked] Homicide.

This is your official statement?

[plays dumb] Something wrong?

[frustratedly] The part about finding the body in your kitchen works fine. But then, it gets a little confusing when you describe the body as a "monstrous chimera," and then go on about werewolves, banshees, kanimas...

[sarcastically] You're right! I forgot about the Dread Doctors.

[to Deputy Clarke] I'll deal with it. No more bending the rules for anyone.

[angrily] Maybe you should learn to bend a little before someone breaks.

[Liam and Hayden are talking to one of the fellow chimeras, Zach, who they're locked up with in the Dread Doctors' electrified holding cell at the abandoned house from Creatures of the Night]

ZZach

We're not getting out of here...

You could be a little optimistic.

ZZach

It's kinda hard when you've watched three people get dragged out of here screaming.

[warily] What happened to 'em?

ZZach

They were failures. That's all they said. First, you forget. You don't know who you are or what you're doing. Then, you get violent. I watched two of them almost kill each other. One of them had a nasty looking cut, just like that.

[Zach points at the incision on Hayden's side from the experiments, which is bleeding black blood, and she self-consciously covers it]

ZZach

Don't worry. Black is okay. It's only really over when you start bleeding other stuff. When it starts turning silver...

...Mercury.

ZZach

That's when you know you're really a failure.

How many more failures are there supposed to be?

ZZach

Who knows? But doesn't it make you wonder what the success is going to look like? I mean, what are we turning into? Something with claws and fangs?

Something with wings?

Something worse?

[Kira tries once again to read The Dread Doctors novel, but when the words start getting blurry again, she angrily throws the book across her bedroom. Noshiko, who was passing her room in the hallway, picks up the book and walks inside to talk to her]

I can't help but notice your frustration.

I'm the only one who still hasn't finished reading it. And everything that started going wrong with me started with them.

If it's the language that is confusing the fox... Maybe you should stop trying to understand it.

[confused] Huh?

The story itself is confusing the fox. Try not reading the story.

How do I do that?

Try reading it backwards.

[After hours of no luck finding Liam and Hayden, Scott becomes so stressed that he has an asthma attack and has to use his inhaler. He falls to his knees and looks devastated and overwhelmed]

This is all my fault. We're never going to find them. It's my fault...

[Mason holds out his hand to help Scott up]

Scott... We should keep looking. We should keep trying.

[Mason looks at him encouragingly, and finally, Scott takes his hand and lets Mason help him up before they return to the search]

[Melissa has just found Scott soaking wet and sitting on the floor of his bedroom next to his closet. In his hands is the old leash he used to walk Roxie]

Sweetheart, are you okay?

[defeatedly] Something's changed.

What do you mean?

I'm not sure. Something's different with me and my friends. With all of us. Something's changed, and I think it's because of me. And I don't know how to fix it.

[The Desert Wolf has tied Deaton to a chair, and his head is bleeding from an injury he sustained in the struggle]

I heard an interesting rumor, Doctor... I heard that my daughter is still alive. You wouldn't happen to know anything about that, would you?

[plays dumb] A daughter? I don't know anything about a daughter.

Well, I hope you're telling the truth... Because if she is still alive, I'm just gonna have to kill her again.

[voiceover monologue] My asthma is back. I'm not sure how, but it came back. Just as bad as it used to be. So now, I keep my inhaler on me all of the time, just like I used to. And it's been five days. We haven't seen any new chimeras, and we haven't seen the Dread Doctors. We all go to school, pretending like nothing's happened, but everyone seems to know. You just walk down the halls, and no one's smiling. No one's laughing. You get the feeling that everyone can sense that something's coming. They just don't know what it is, or how bad it's going to be. Every time I feel like I should do something about it, I find myself reaching for my inhaler, like I'm going to take a hit of it and, and come up with some brilliant solution on how to save everyone. But I don't know what to do. I don't think anyone does. Maybe that's why no one's really talking to each other. Sometimes, we don't even notice each other... But I think some of us are okay with that. Because not talking makes it easier to keep secrets. And I don't know if anyone's really lying about things. Maybe it's more like lies of omission.

[voiceover monologue] Maybe the worst lie is to Stilinski, because no one's told him about Parrish yet. Then again, no one's told Parrish, either. He doesn't seem to remember taking the bodies, and we think that he's only really dangerous if you try to get in his way. If Stilinski knew, he'd definitely get in his way. So, Lydia and Stiles are trying to find the bodies, which means finding the Nemeton. They're driving around, searching all of the woods... But the last time we found this thing, three of us had almost drowned in ice water. We're not the only ones looking for chimeras. Stilinski's got everyone looking for the next target, questioning everyone who's a genetic chimera, anyone who's got two sets of DNA. No one really knows what they're looking for. Some think it's a serial killer. Some probably know it's worse.

The two chimeras that we know about, Hayden and Corey? They're both doing okay. Actually, better than okay. They're healing faster and getting stronger. They don't need our help... and I don't think they'd want it anyway. I still haven't heard from Kira, and I'm getting more and more worried about Deaton. I know something's coming, and all I can think about is... How good am I going to be if I can't even breathe?

You sound like you're trying to apologize.

You came back looking for an Alpha. I guess I'm sorry that you found me.

I'm not sorry.

You still want to be part of the pack?

Scott, I'm with you. For better or worse.

[sighs] Trust me. There's gonna be worse.

[smiles] I'm counting on it.
