Every chapter reads like one of the numerous legendary exploits you told me about. It's like it's almost autobiographical.

Jiraiya

Yeah but it didn't sell at all. Four my next one I think I'll add some spicy elements to pep it up.

Minato

The main character here, I thought his determination to never give up was pretty awesome. He's actually quite a lot like you, Sensei.

Jiraiya

Yeah, you think so?

Minato

So I was thinking. I really hope my soon to be born child can become an amazing Shinobi just like the main character in your book! So that's why I'd like to ask your permission to name my son after him.

Jiraiya

You what? Are you sure about this? I mean I randomly came with it while eating ramen.

Kushina

[enters the room, pregnant] Naruto... I think it's a wonderful name.

Jiraiya

Kushina. Wow so would that make me his godfather then? Are you really sure you're sure about this?

Minato

You're my sensei Jiraiya. You're a great ninja who possesses true talent. There's no one else like you in the whole world.

Minato

[Appearing in Naruto's mind] Truth be told I hoped it would never get this far since I never wanted to see you again, Nine Tails. But then I was looking forward to seeing the young man that my son had become. I guess it evens out.

Fourth Hokage! Come here! I'll rip you to shreds!

Minato

Well if that's the case then I think I'll just remain over here.

Minato

In order to try to protect something that's precious, wars are waged. As long as there is love in this world there will be hate, and some will take advantage of that hatred. As long as we have this ninja system, this monster known as hate will live. It will give birth to more Pains. Pain may have actually killed Jiraiya sensei, but if you look deeper, one could even say that this disordered Shinobi world created Pain and killed Jiraiya. To be a ninja means that you must confront hatred. And every one of us must battle against that hatred. Jiraiya sensei bequeathed to you the quest for the solution to end this hatred.

Naruto

But how can I when I can't find a way to forgive Pain? There's just no way. I can't.

Minato

I know.

Naruto

Fourth Hokage, please tell me. What do I do?

Minato

You must find that answer for yourself because even I don't know it.

Naruto

But if you and pervy sage don't have a clue about the answer, then how am I ever supposed to figure it out? Everyone always expects too much of me! I mean look at me! I'm not smart, I'm not a great ninja, I'm just me! And how's a guy like supposed to-

Minato

I'm certain that you'll be able to find the answer, Naruto. Because I believe in you completely.

Kushina

I can still do it, Minato. [uses chakra chains on Nine-Tails, waking Naruto] Woke you up huh? Sorry Naruto.

Minato

Kushina.

I'll take the Nine Tails with me to my death because that way we can reduce the interval between now and when he emerges again. It's all I can manage now with what little chakra I have left, but I'll be able to save you both. So thank you for everything you've done.

Minato

Kushina, you're the one. It was you who made me the Fourth Hokage. You made me a man and you made me this baby's father. And yet...

Kushina

Oh Minato, please don't give me that sad look. I'm happy because you love me and what's more, today is the birthday of our beautiful child. But most of all if I were to imagine me alive, and our future, the three of us as a family, I can't really picture us as being anything but truly happy. I guess I were allowed just one regret, I wish that I could have seen Naruto all grown up. I wish that I could have seen that.

Kushina

[To Minato about sealing baby Naruto] But he's our son, Minato! Which is exactly why I don't want him to bear such a heavy burden! And tell me, why use the Reaper Death Seal?! If it's just so I can meet Naruto when he's grown up, especially if it's only going to be for a short time, then there's no need for you to die! I'd rather you stay with him and watched over him. I just don't understand why it has to be this way! Why does Naruto have to be sacrificed for the balance of power between the Tailed Beasts, for his nation, for his village? Why do you have to sacrifice yourself at all, just for me please?!

Minato

To forsake one's nation and one's village is exactly as bad as forsaking one's own child. Your very own homeland was destroyed so you should know that. A harsh life awaits those without a land to call their home. Our family... is Shinobi. Finally, even if I were to live, I could never be a substitute for you. You won't have much time with him, but there's something only you can tell Naruto, something that I just can't. That's a mother's role. I'm not doing this just for you. I'm doing this for Naruto. I will die for my son. It is my duty as a father.

Kushina

[Last words] Naruto. Don't be a picky eater, just eat a lot so you grow big and strong! And make sure that you bathe everyday and that you stay warm too. Also don't stay up too late. Make sure you get plenty of sleep. Don't forget to make friends as well. You don't need a ton of them okay? just a few is fine as long as they're ones that you can really trust. And your mom wasn't very good at this, make sure you study hard and learn your ninjutsu. Always remember everyone is good at some things and not so good at others. So even if something doesn't go well don't get depressed, okay? When you're at the academy respect your teachers and your upperclassmen. Oh and this is important. Regarding the Three Prohibitions of the shinobi, be extra careful about loaning and borrowing money, take your pay, put it into a savings account. No alcohol, not until you're of age. Too much sake is bad for you so practice moderation. And another prohibition is women. Remember I am one so I don't know much about it. Keep in mind that this world is made up of men and women and so at some point you'll notice girls, and that's normal. Just be careful, don't fall for the bad ones. Just go out there and find someone who's like me. Oh and that reminds me. Speaking of the Three Prohibitions, you should be wary of Jiraiya-sensei you know. Naruto I'm sorry to say there will be plenty of hardships and painful times ahead. Just be true to yourself! Make sure to have dreams and the confidence to make those dreams come true! [Crying] Oh Naruto there's so much... oh so much more. There are so many things I want to pass on to you, so much more I want to tell you. I wish I could stay with you longer. I love you. Minato I'm sorry. I used up your time.

Minato

[Last words] No it's all right. Naruto, my words to you. Well I guess your talkative mom said it all. Eight signed seal.

Kushina

I'm sorry for making you the Nine Tails' vessel, Naruto. For making you bear what should have been our burden to carry. For not being able to stand by your side.

Naruto

You don't have to apologize. Yeah sure in the past I went through a lot as a jinchūriki, but I would never blame you or dad for that. So yeah I never really had parents or felt a parent's love. After all you and dad weren't around. But still I had a feeling, and besides I now know it sure. Because you and dad both sacrificed yourselves just for me, so now I realize there's more than just Nine-Tails inside me. There's your love too! That makes me really happy! Mom and dad, I'm glad I'm your kid!

Kushina

Minato, did you hear that? Our hopes really did get through to reach our son! Naruto. Thank you for letting me become a mother, and thank you for letting Minato be a father. Thank you for being born to us! [disappears]

Minato

[to Sakura] Are you Naruto's girlfriend?

Naruto

Huh? Um... Yeah, yeah, I suppose you could say that.

Sakura

You shut your trap! [headbutts Naruto] Don't waste your energy talking.

Naruto

You're supposed to be healing me, not hurting me even more!

Sakura

Oh I'll just heal the extra damage too.

Minato

She kinda reminds me a bit of Kushina.

You're going to lecture me now? Bit late for that sensei, don't you think? You're always too late when it matters most. [flashes back to his tragic past] I'm glad my teacher was a Hokage. That made it easy to give up on becoming Hokage. [flashes back to attacking the Hidden Leaf]

Minato

If only I had realized that man was Obito, I may have been able to stop him. And then I may have been able to prevent Kushina's death. I may not have had to make Naruto into the Nine Tails jinchūriki. If only I had noticed that he was Obito. Perhaps the Shinobi world wouldn't have ended up like this either.

You were my teacher and yet you didn't realize it was me. That's just who you are fundamentally. How pathetic. You died a hero Hokage, but now exposed as a disgrace in front of your living son. That's right, a Hokage is a pitiable existence compared to what I am now.

Naruto

Dad, I...

Minato

Oh that's right. There is something I have been meaning to tell you. Happy birthday, Naruto. You've really become a splendid young man, you know that?

Naruto

Yeah. Thank you.

Minato

We're in existence outside of the rules. So we can't just remain in this world forever. This is goodbye. I promise you that I'll tell Kushina everything.

Naruto

Tell her not to worry! I'm eating properly. Lots of different stuff, I'm not picky. Like I'll have tonkotsu ramen, miso ramen, and sometimes I'll even have shoyu ramen too. Oh but I don't only eat ramen though I swear. I bathe almost every day, even going to the Leaf Hot Springs once in a while, although everyone tells me my baths are only lightning quick dips. What else, what else... I've managed to make a whole lot of friends and they're all really good guys. And well I was pretty awful at school to tell you the truth, but I never got depressed about it. I had more confidence than anyone else. And of course I always obeyed Lord Third and Kakashi Sensei too. I mean I totally respect them both. They're right here, so you can just ask them yourself. Oh and those Three Prohibitions of Shinobi? I learned a whole lot about them when I was with Pervy Sage! He was hopeless when it came to them though, but he was an awesome Sannin and I respect him the most, I do. I just turned 17 today so I don't know much about alcohol or girls yet. I know that Mom said I should find someone just like her but I don't know. That's kind of uh... Anyway not everything that Mom told me about went well, but I always tried to do the very best that I could, you know! I've got dreams too! I'm gonna be an even greater Hokage than you, Dad! I swear I will! Tell Mom when you see her over there that she doesn't have to worry about me even a bit! Tell her I'm doing my best! [cries]
