Hey. Did you guys request an assist from Invincible?
Construction Worker Uh, no.
DDinosaurus
[unseen] They didn't call for you. I did. First, let me thank you, Invincible. Your war cost so many lives. I know you think that's a tragedy, but you're wrong.
What? Wh-Who are you? What do you want?
[The construction workers whimper and flee]
DDinosaurus
[unseen] Our planet is overburdened and dying. We're choking on our own filth, stupidly breeding like rabbits as we stumble towards extinction. But you... you gave us what no one else could: a chance at a better future. Fewer mouths to feed.
DDinosaurus
[unseen] If only you stopped there. But you have to make up for your mistakes, don't you? Push that needle back into the black, no matter what it takes. You're gonna ruin everything. [strikes Invincible, revealing himself] Which is why you need to DIE! [tries to crush Invincible with a block of rubble] Every life you and your friends save today [lunges at him and misses, but grabs his leg] is TEN lost TOMORROW! [throws him into more rubble, then trades more blows with him] You think I picked this moment by accident?
[Dinosaurus tries to bite off Invincible's arm, but leaves it unharmed, only managing to crush his gauntlet]
[chuckles slightly] Looks like you picked wrong. [removes what is left of both his gauntlets and puts up his fists] Come on!
In the time since the virus first struck, we still have no treatment or cure.
Do not make me ask you twice.
[Kregg pauses.]
...Billions, upon billions. But it is worse than that. With so few of us remaining, any offspring, will be inbred, and deficient. It, is the end of our race, Regent.
No, you are wrong. We will honor our fallen. Rebuild ourselves at any cost, and destroy those who thought they could extinguish us. We are Viltrumites. We are without end.
[arrives at the throne room] Sire, if you will allow me to explain...
[slaps him] On your knees, animal!
[bows before Thragg] I-I have failed you. My arrogance led me to be defeated by the boy and his witch. Make my death painful so others may learn and grow stronger from it. [brief silence] I beg you, Grand Regent, Thragg.
No. No, I will not reward failure. [approaches Conquest] You have work to do yet.
Mark said that coming to see you was selfish, and I think he was right. Do you want me to go?
[Debbie does not respond.]
Okay. I did the unspeakable to you and Mark. And then I did it again on Thraxxa, leaving you and him and Oliver to pick up the pieces. Words can't make up for something like that. But... When Mark first got his powers, I was terrified, because I knew it meant everything would change. My life with you would change. And I didn't want that to happen. But I had a mission to fulfill. A duty to the Viltrum Empire. And it should've been easy, except... I wasn't really a Vilutrumite anymore. I'm almost a thousand years old, but twenty years with you... Twenty years with you made me human. I know forgiveness is earned, not asked for, so I'm not asking for it. But Debbie -- I am sorry. I am sorry for the pain, the tears, the anger, the sorrow that I put you through. I am sorry for what I did to Mark. For what I did to everyone in Chicago. The Guardians, all the Thraxxans... For abandoning Oliver. I am sorry for all of it and I regret every moment. And I promise you and Mark and Oliver that I will spend the rest of my life trying to repair the damage I did.
"Repair the damage"... [She sarcastically laughs.] You still think you can do anything, don't you? Fix all your problems with your superpowers? This can't be fixed, Nolan. There's no way back from where you are. You murdered people. You extinguished families. You spread misery to the people who loved you most. How many people can't sleep at night because, every time they close their eyes, they see you? I know what that feels like because I'm one of them. And now-- And now you show up here with some bullshit apology, about to take my son to a war a million miles away where he could die, and you think you can repair this? What do you want, Nolan?
I... I wanted to say that I was sorry.
You said that. You're still here.
Debbie, I... I had to see you again.
Fuck you. Two months after you left, you had Oliver with Andressa.
Andressa was... was a mistake. I didn't know what I was doing. I love you. Not her.
Do you realize how you sound? You think that telling me you didn't love Oliver's mother is supposed to make me feel better? It just makes me hate you more.
You miss me? You miss me?! You know what?! I missed you! [Debbie punches Nolan's chest.] But you killed the man I loved! You! Killed! Him!
[Debbie rains more blows down on his chest, breaking the wrist that Angstrom detached. She cries out in pain.]
[Debbie cries out -- in pain, frustration, anger, sadness -- while cradling her bloodied wrist.]
I loved you! We had everything! Now it's all gone!
Debbie, stop! Let me see it.
[Debbie backs away.]
If I was supposed to change you, I failed. You're not one of us. You're not human. You're barely a bad photocopy. You got to say what you wanted to say. Now get the fuck out of my house and never come back.
This is rad! I haven't been on a spaceship since I was a baby. Look at this thing! What do these buttons do? Does this thing have lasers?
I'm not sure. You'll have to ask the captain.
I'd get to meet the captain? [Omni-Man suddenly comes in] Dad?
He's here to help. He's a good fighter.
Mark, take him home. Now.
No! My other home already got trashed because of you, and I couldn't do anything about it. So, I'm gonna fight to save this one.
And you don't get to tell me what to do! You didn't even come to see me!
[The two boys look on at their father in disappointment.]
This isn't what I wanted.
Yeah, well, me neither! [leaves]
What were you thinking of bringing him here?! This is a war! He could die!
Oliver's not a kid anymore. [Omni-Man's face softens] And Mom and I decided this with him. It was a family decision.
You didn't even want to see him! And you told me yourself this war isn't sparing anyone if we lose.
Not the war, Mark. I wanted to spare Oliver from me.
Oh, God, this is like that thing with Mom. This is about you, not him.
I made too many mistakes, Mark.
Look, I'm not sure you deserve it, but this is your second chance. Oliver used to idolize you when he was younger. What do you think the "O" on his suit stands for? It's not for "Oliver". [leaves]
Hey, Mark, um, is everything okay with your dad?
It's just, ever since we left Earth, he's been in a major funk. Oh, "funk" is, uh, it's a Unopan word. It...it means kind of like bummed out, you know?
Yeah, it means the same thing on Earth.
That is weird. Anyway, he's all sulky and he won't talk to me about it.
I think he expected my mom to be happier to see him.
Why would he expect that? He told me what he did there. He's lucky he walked out of that house in one piece.
He's not used to people telling him no.
TTelia
Your brother seems upset with him too.
Yeah, I thought it was because my dad didn't go see him back on Earth, but now I'm not so sure.
Well, at least Nolan's trying.
[chuckles] I'm not sure there's enough try in the world to make up for what he did.
[during his "training session" with Oliver] Alright. Feeling better now?
No! I heard you that night at home with Mom!
What are you talking about?
I was upstairs. You said... You said you didn't love my other mom. My real mom! That she was a mistake!
I-I didn't mean for you to hear that.
That's not what I... Oliver...
I wanted to be just...like...you! Like Omni-Man! I even wore your stupid symbol! But then you came home to find Mark and didn't even bother to see me! You don't care about me. You never did.
You're right, Oliver. I haven't been a father to you. [Oliver's face softens] But I'm trying to do better. To be a better person. It's just... It's harder than I thought.
[grows hostile as he is not buying any of his father's words] You're too late. [flies off]
[Omni-Man wakes up and looks around at the place that was once considered his home planet, now standing in ruin and completely deserted, as thunder and lightning roars in the dark clouds from the gloomy skies up above.]
It's been too long, Nolan.
What do you want, Thragg?
Simply to talk to an old friend.
We've always talked. Some simply chose not to listen.
Come home, Nolan. Come home and all will be forgiven.
[Lightning clashes from above.]
We have no home. This place is a tomb.
[enraged] VILTRUM IS NOT A TOMB! [calmly] It is who we are. We will restore it to what it was, as we will restore our people to their rightful place in the galaxy.
There's barely 40 of us left, Thragg.
40 Viltrumites who know you better than you know yourself. Who have fought beside you. Who have suffered exactly the same way you have.
You're not my family anymore.
But the man who almost caused our extinction is?
I know Thaedus created the Scourge Virus.
And yet, you fight beside him. He committed genocide on his own people.
To stop us from committing it on others.
You know we only ever did what was necessary to preserve order.
Like coming after my sons?
We tested your sons, as we have all been tested. Do you think Thaedus will be as kind to them if he wins this war? [Omni-Man stands there in brief silence] Ah, I see you're not as naive as I feared.
This room once echoed with thousands of voices. [places his hand on the skull of Argall] All united with the knowledge that the universe belonged to Viltrum. Argall showed us this. Taught us our true power. Thaedus... Thaedus was a coward. You know that don't you?
It doesn't change anything.
Fighting for him is fighting for your own destruction. Your family's destruction.
I won't let him hurt my family.
It's over, Thragg. The entire galaxy is unified against us. But it doesn't have to end with our extinction. Agree to terms and I will stop this, no matter what Thaedus wants.
Would our emperor ever agree to terms?
Look around, Thragg. We lost. Can't you see why this all fell?
This is our home. We will rebuild it.
[sighs] No... You won't. [he and Thragg give each other a deathly stare down]
The death of any Viltrumite leaves a void in me. [gathers up his strength and sends Omni-Man flying back up in space with a single punch]
(standing firm Mark's attacks) Stop! I've done nothing to your planet... yet. But if you continue to be irrational...
(after a moment of silence) I was made Grant Regent of Viltrum to lead our people from darkness and ensure the future of our race. It has not been easy. There are 37 of us left. Barely a whisper of who we once were. But still more than enough to tear this planet in half. It would be fair repayment for the many offences you have given us. You took our home. So our home is now here. Let me explain your future to you: we will live among you, wear your clothes, walk your streets. We will disappear within your society. Your people will never know we are here. But they will save us nonetheless, as we use them to birth our salvation. Any attempt to find us, to remove us, to thwart us, by you or the Coalition of Planets, will result in the death of billions and a... less pleasant form of life for the survivors. Either way, we will rebuild our race. Your very existence proves this is possible. In return, I offer a truce. We will not influence, affect, aid or endanger Earth in any way, as long as we are undisturbed. You do not have a choice - and yet, you must still make one. Do you and your planet accept my terms? Or do you choose annihilation for both our people?
