NYNoshiko Yukimura

[about her tails] You hid them in a book? Couldn't you find something more secure?

Ken Yukimura

How many high school students do you know who would willingly open a book?

Ken

You still haven't talked to Kira, have you?

Barely a word since the hospital.

Ken

You need to tell her. Especially about this. You've already sacrificed five. Three of the oni are gone. How many more tails are you willing to sacrifice?

If I have to? All of them.

NSNogitsune/Stiles

No. No, I'd like to talk to you. The older the tail, the stronger the oni. Am I right? I know there's one tail left. I know it's the strongest.

Ken Yukimura

Unfortunately, I don't know what you're referring to.

NSNogitsune/Stiles

[sighs] You'll talk.

[One of the nogitsune's flies forces itself down Ken's throat]

NSNogitsune/Stiles

They always talk.

If that's you, then you'd have to be like, ninety years old.

[smiles] Closer to nine hundred.

[stunned] Okay. Sure. Why not? [She turns to Ken] Dad, how old are you?

Ken

Forty-three. But, I've been told I look mid-thirties.

[to Scott] Wolves and foxes tend not to get along. And not just in fables and stories.

Ken

[to Noshiko] But allies, however unlikely, should be welcomed. Especially in times of war.

I'll take it somewhere safe.

Ken

That's not what I'm worried about. History has not done well with making children into killers.

These children played their part in it long before we came back to Beacon Hills. I buried the jar deep within the roots of the Nemeton. It was their sacrifice that brought its power back. They let the demon out of its cage.

[Kira has just learned her family plans on moving back to New York]

Ken

[to Noshiko] I thought you were going to talk to her?

Kira, we told you this was temporary.

That was after you told me I was a kitsune, and was going to have to destroy a dark spirit by stabbing and killing one of the few friends I've made in this town.

And you didn't have to! I call that a win.

[Kira is walking down the hallway and is only half-listening as her dad talks to her]

Ken

It's not that we were wanting to talk to you. It's that we were wondering if you wanted to talk to us.

About what?

Ken

About something that you forgot to mention? Something important?

[continues skimming her notes] How important?

Ken

Exceptionally.

[stops in her tracks] Oh, god. You know.

Ken

We know.

Look, I was going to tell you. We were going to tell you. Everything-- about the deadpool, the assassins, the killings... but I didn't want you to worry!

Ken

[pulls out her jersey] I was talking about you joining the lacrosse team.

[grabs the jersey and turns the other way] Oh! Then... never mind!

Ken

[bewildered] Deadpool?

Ken

You know, there's a legend for a storm like this.

Dad, please don't turn a three-hour traffic jam into an educational experience...

He's talking about the Wild Hunt-- about the Ghost Riders. In storm clouds just like these, phantom hunters would appear, riding black horses with blood-red eyes, and wolves and hounds at their side, baying and snarling...

What were they hunting?

Souls.

Ken

You're still stronger than the Fox. Remember that.

[anxiously] But I'm useless without a weapon. I'm useless to my friends.

Ken

You always have a weapon-- the most powerful weapon of all.

If you tap me on the forehead and say, "Your mind is your most powerful weapon," I'm going to scream.

Ken

[laughs] I wasn't going to tap you on the forehead. But... The sword is a gateway to the Fox. And the Fox is too dangerous. [He sighs] Your mind is a weapon, Kira. Trust yourself. You can still outfox the Fox.

[Kira is trying to convince her father to put her sword back together]

Ken

As your father, I'm obliged to warn you this is dangerous.

As my father, I was hoping you wouldn't tell my mother.

Ken

[smiles] That's dangerous, too.

[sighs] I get it, Dad. I need to learn balance. I can't learn balance with the sword-- the sword brings out the Fox.

Ken

You know it's more complicated than that. Learning balance is critical to controlling the Fox.

What if the sword is critical to saving my friends?

Ken

It's just a weapon, Kira. You're the critical part.

I've got eight hundred years to learn balance. We need to help Mason right now. I need my sword.

Ken

[sighs] It was forged with a unique power. It takes a certain power to put it back together again. You're going to need help.
