[Patrick has just surrendered to Dr. Deaton in a fight before he can kill Calissa]
PPatrick
Okay, wait! Stop! The deadpool's over. You're not going to get paid! It's over.
DDeaton
I'm not here to kill you, Patrick. I'm taking you back to Eichen House, where they know all about your "culinary practices."
DDeaton
I was hoping we could talk. My name is Dr. Alan Deaton.
VDr. Valak
Oh, I know your specialty, Dr. Deaton, and I know it's not cats and dogs.
DDeaton
I'm here because of what you know about South American mythology.
VDr. Valak
No. You want to know about Kate Argent. You want to know about La Loba, the Bone Woman.
DDeaton
I need to know what she did to Derek Hale. And, if he's dying.
DDeaton
Because of a promise I made to a woman I loved.
[Scott and Deaton are examining Belasko's talons]
DDr. Deaton
Maybe. Are you sure this guy was a werewolf? As far as I can tell, these claws are actually talons. In fact, they're the talons of a harpy eagle, one of the largest known birds of prey.
[confused] How does a werewolf get talons?
DDr. Deaton
Personally, I'm more interested in how these talons somehow were able to absorb your powers. The only one who should be able to do that is a Beta of your own making.
And what if I let someone into my pack? Like another Beta?
DDr. Deaton
I would normally say no... But, I'm starting to wonder if the rules to our supernatural world aren't as rigid as I once thought. Or maybe someone's trying to change those rules.
[Deaton is examining Tracy as she lays unconscious on his table at the animal clinic. Malia, Scott, and Stiles watch him and brainstorm]
Uh, can't you just give her a shot of something?
DDr. Deaton
She doesn't look to be in any pain...
I meant a shot to kill her!
[Deaton has just arrived at the McCall house, where he has interrupted Scott and Kira kissing in the living room]
DDeaton
Sorry to interrupt.
[Deaton starts pulling out jars that have werewolf claws, kanima scales, and harpy eagle talons in them from his bag]
DDeaton
A werewolf with the talons of an eagle-- possibly a shapeshifter known in Eastern mythology as a garuda. Tracy's claws-- the unmistakable claws of a werewolf. But, a werewolf who also bears the venom and the scales of a kanima.
What do you even call that?
DDeaton
Personally, I call it "terrifying." But, at the moment, I'm more interested in how Tracy was able to get across the mountain ash.
[confused] I thought no supernatural can do that.
DDeaton
As did I. So, if Tracy was able to cross the mountain ash, and no supernatural can do that...
Tracy's not a supernatural.
DDeaton
Exactly. If she wasn't born, and she wasn't bitten, she had to have been made.
DDeaton
Someone is trying to make supernatural creatures with non-supernatural means. And, whoever they are, they're somehow managing to blur the lines between science and the supernatural.
[A mysterious woman has just shot Vadim in the head with an assault rifle and is now aiming it at Deaton, who has gotten into a defensive position]
Easy, Doctor. I know you have skills, but I'm pretty sure I can shoot faster than you can hit. [She pauses for a beat] Do you know who I am?
DDeaton
I know what you're called... The Desert Wolf.
[The Desert Wolf has tied Deaton to a chair, and his head is bleeding from an injury he sustained in the struggle]
I heard an interesting rumor, Doctor... I heard that my daughter is still alive. You wouldn't happen to know anything about that, would you?
DDeaton
[plays dumb] A daughter? I don't know anything about a daughter.
Well, I hope you're telling the truth... Because if she is still alive, I'm just gonna have to kill her again.
[Deaton, Stiles, and Scott are at the animal clinic, where Deaton has just pulled out a stack of old Polaroid photos, all of which depict various supernatural creatures with bloody holes drilled into their heads]
DDeaton
What I'm about to show you isn't supposed to exist. This is the only surviving evidence of Dr. Valack's time as Chief Medical Officer at Eichen House. To call it human experimentation would be... charitable.
[Stiles' eyes widen at a photo of a woman who is painfully covering her ears with her hands]
DDeaton
A Banshee. She died screaming.
So, he drilled holes into their heads? All of them?
DDeaton
That was the experimentation part. He did it to werewolves, Banshees, wendigos... any creature he could get his hands on. And Valack found that trephination would initially heighten their powers, but to levels that couldn't be contained.
So, he wants to make Lydia more powerful.
Yeah, except she's going to end up like them.
DDeaton
Worse, actually. Lydia's abilities were already pretty exceptional to begin with. Putting a hole in her head will be like causing a leak in a nuclear reactor. She'll hear everything-- every death, every dying scream, all at once.
[worriedly] That's gonna kill her.
DDeaton
Not only that... Her own dying scream could be so powerful that it might kill everyone around her.
[Scott and Liam have brought the injured Surgeon to the animal clinic for Deaton]
DDeaton
I'm not sure he technically is alive.
[scoffs] Screw keeping him alive! How do we get him to talk?
Personally, I don't think we utilize torture nearly enough...
DDeaton
Hold on-- Scott might have something. Mason's twin wasn't entirely gone. That's what made him a genetic chimera. The DNA was still there. Metaphorically speaking, the DNA of Mason could still be inside Sebastien as well.
DDeaton
Life is energy. Energy doesn't just disappear. The Dread Doctors may have found a way to break the rules of the supernatural, but there are some rules that simply won't break.
So, Mason can't just be gone?
DDeaton
Somewhere in Sebastien, he has to still exist in some form. A spark of energy, a flicker of memory...
Hang on... Liam, you said Mason said something right before he turned.
He said, "That's not my name."
He finally remembered his name. Damnatio memoriae.
DDeaton
That's what they wanted. They wanted Sebastien to remember his name. Scott, do you know the myth of what happens when you call a werewolf by its given name?
[shocked] It turns back to human...
What does that mean? Someone can just walk up to the Beast, yell Mason's name, and turn him back?
