Like any other citizen of the planet, I must obey the law. I am not above it. You, it seems, believe you are.
Lex LuthorI hold a certain position in this city.
Yes. And there is nothing that would please me more than to see you dethroned and behind bars like any common criminal. That day will come.
Lex LuthorWell, I trust not. But, as they say, let the games begin.
There's a warrant for your arrest, for arson and other crimes too numerous to mention.
Lex LuthorYou're out of your minds, both of you.
You have the right to remain silent. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be--
Lex LuthorWill you shut up? I can afford a thousand attorneys. I'll have your badge-- I'll have your head for this! Get me the governor on the phone. GET ME THE PRESIDENT! GET HIM! ON THE PHONE!
It's over, Luthor, give it up.
Lex LuthorLex Luthor will not live in a cage!
Luthor, no!
Lex LuthorYou know, this is the tallest building in Metropolis? Did you? "Top of the world!"
[Luthor throws himself over the edge. Clark tries to fly up to save him, but is still too weak after being locked in Luthor's kryptonite cage]
I-I can't...!
[Unable to watch, Lois buries her face in Clark's shoulder]
[Lex Luthor chuckles]
Maybe you'd like to let me in on the joke?
Lex LuthorMe, I'm the joke. Twice I've had the chance to kill you, twice the game has gone your way.
The game is over, Luthor.
Lex LuthorI'll not give you the satisfaction of taking me alive.
[Luthor tries to electrocute himself by grabbing exposed wiring, but Superman severs the connection with his heat vision]
Sorry, Luthor, but killing yourself is the easy way out. You can't cheat justice twice.
Lex LuthorOh, so smug...
You say you love her? You say she means everything to you? Then let her live! Give her that! Or do you want me to beg again?
[Looking into Lois' eyes one last time, Luthor releases her hand]
Lex LuthorAnd you said I couldn't love. How little you understood me. How little anybody ever did.
