[Scott, Kira, Lydia, Malia, Stiles, and Theo are sitting in the living room of the McCall house, with six copies of the Dread Doctors book sitting on the coffee table]
My mom's bookclub usually had more wine.
They probably also didn't read books that caused violent hallucinations...
Maybe I should have my mother read it. She might remember a girl with a tail leaping off the ceiling and attacking everyone.
[concerned] What's that mean?
[anxiously] When I look at the cover of the book... It's almost like...
...A memory trying to surface?
Isn't that what Valack wanted when he wrote it?
If they did something to me, I want to know what it is.
[Hayden is working at Sinema, where she's selling glow-sticks to customers. After a moment, she's approached by Josh Diaz, who looks stoned]
[impatiently] No, it just ran out of glow. They don't last forever.
[confused] Can I have my money back?
[Hayden sighs and hands him another glow-stick without another word. Once he's gone, she groans in annoyance]
God, I hate all-ages night.
[After none of them had any flashbacks after they had read the Dread Doctors book, they go to school the next morning. Scott, Kira, and Stiles are walking down the hallway when the electricity suddenly flickers. Stiles and Scott look at Kira suspiciously, and her eyes widen in alarm]
[sighs] We keep an eye on each other today, okay?
Yes, and keep an eye out for eight other potentially homicidal chimeras.
And keep an eye out for the Dread Doctors.
[anxiously] I'm starting to see the appeal of a third eye...
[Mason has just found Kira in the library, where she looks frustrated as she looks at the Dread Doctor book in her hands. He sits down next to her and smiles]
Not into sci-fi? That's the book, isn't it? I thought you guys were supposed to finish reading it last night.
[embarrassed] Yeah, I kind of... haven't... yet. I don't know what's wrong with me. I mean, I can't... I can barely read it.
[excitedly] Okay, uh... This is gonna sound weird, but do you speak Japanese?
No. I'm also half-Korean, and I don't speak Korean. And I'm pushing a C-average in English.
Okay, well, I've been doing some reading on kitsunes...
Do you know why people in Japan answer the phone "moshi moshi?"
Yeah, but there's a reason why you have to say it twice on the phone. Because, according to Japanese folklore, fox spirits have difficulty with language. And the way that you prove you're not a fox? When you answer the phone, you say "moshi" twice. The important part is "moshi moshi" confuses kitsunes because it's a language trick. So is the book-- you know, it's just one long language trick.
That's why I can't read it?
It's affecting the fox part of you, confusing it.
[Suddenly, the electricity flickers, and Mason gives her a look]
[Mason and Brett are sitting on the bleachers and watching lacrosse and soccer practice on the field as they talk]
I don't know, dude. Everyone at Devenford's pretty abnormal to me.
All right. What else is there to look for? There's heightened strength, smell, hearing, speed...
Uh, able to see in the dark...
Eyes that reflect the light...
Visible scorpion stingers protruding out of limbs?
[chuckles] Yeah, or three-foot lizard tails.
Okay, then what are we doing here if you've already had your repressed memory?
[frustrated] It wasn't the right memory. I remembered my grandmother in Eichen House. There was nothing to do with surgery, nothing to do with the Dread Doctors. So, if I've read the book, why don't I have the full memory of my experience with them?
...I'm not supposed to know that, am I?
No, something... [She suddenly gets an idea] ...happened during the surgery. But now... I think that maybe it has more to do with me being a banshee. It's not my memory, Stiles. :Stiles: It's someone else's.
[Malia has just confronted Theo in the weight room]
Why haven't you said anything?
The rest of my memory? The Desert Wolf? Why didn't you tell Scott?
I didn't think you wanted me to.
[surprised] I don't. Are you going to want to know why?
[frustrated] You think you're doing me a favor? Like I'm going to owe you now?
[sighs] If you want to tell Scott what you saw, tell him. If you've got something else in mind, I'm okay with that too.
[Stiles has just witnessed Theo killing the newly-turned chimera, Josh, to save his life and is staring at him in horror]
Stiles... You can't say anything. Please don't say anything.
Because I never said anything about Donovan.
[angrily] You don't know anything!
I was there! I was at the library. Malia found the book. She was texting us to see where you were. She said she left you at the library. I told her I was close. When I got there, I heard the scaffolding come down.
Just the body. I watched you come out. I was gonna say something, but then I saw the cop car... And the body was gone. I don't know who took him. I only saw what you saw, and I didn't say anything because you didn't.
[Stiles and Theo are debating what to do after Theo killed Josh to save Stiles when sirens are heard]
That's not an ambulance, is it?
[Stiles shakes his head in the negatory]
We should get out of here.
[points to Josh's body] We can't just leave him.
Fine. All right, let's take him. Someone's stealing the bodies anyway, right? Here's our chance to find out who.
[Stiles, overwhelmed, hesitates for a moment]
Theo: Stiles, come on. We gotta do something.
In self-defense. He was going to kill you, and me! If we stay, we're either going to have to tell the truth, or we're going to need a pretty convincing story. It's your choice. I'm not going to ask you to lie to your dad.
[sighs] Don't worry... I've had plenty of practice.
[Hayden is walking to her car in the Sinema parking lot while Liam chases after her]
Asking me to close my eyes was weird. Sticking a glow stick in my face? Even weirder. But werewolves and dead doctors?
[sheepishly] Dread Doctors.
[annoyed] Whatever. Get away from me.
[desperately] What if I could prove it to you?
[Liam sighs before wolfing out and roaring with glowing gold eyes and fangs in Hayden's face. Hayden is so scared she screams and punches him in the face before driving away]
[Scott and Stiles have met up with Liam at Scott's house. Hayden has locked herself in the bathroom]
She's definitely a chimera?
She said she heard a voice saying, "Your condition improves."
Well, that's unsettling. [He starts to talk to Hayden through the locked door] Hayden, this is Stiles. Your sister works for my dad down at the station? Look, just open the door, okay? You can trust us.
We just need to tell you the truth, Hayden. And that kind of thing usually is better face-to-face. Listen, either you're gonna unlock the door, or I'm gonna have to break it open. It's okay if you don't want to talk, or if you're not ready to believe us. But, I just... I gotta know that you're okay in there.
[Scott is about to break the door open when it suddenly unlocks and cracks open. Scott, Stiles, and Liam slowly walk into the bathroom to find Hayden partially wolfed-out, with glowing gold eyes, claws, and fangs]
[Noshiko has just sneak-attacked Kira with her katana to test her ability to deal with a fight at the spur of the moment. Kira looks at her in horror and annoyance]
Mom! This is not what I would call quality mother-daughter time.
