Cornelius[while babysitting the children] It's times like these that make me glad I'm a bachelor!
CorneliusSit down, Alexander! No horse play in the car please.
CorneliusThe true meaning of responsibility is sticking by a decision you'll know you'll keep.
Everyone, round up the children! Head for cover quickly!
Hey! What's going on here? Whoa, wait! Where are we going, Mama?
CorneliusQuickly, quickly, into the jungle! Quickly, quickly!
[The hunter shoots Babar's mother with gun fires]
[Babar and his mother fall]
[coughing] Ah! [coughing as the water drags him to the land] Mama? [coughing] Mama? Where are you? [The water splashes Babar as he coughs more] Mama?
[trumpeting]
Mama? [Cornelius picks up Babar and Babar coughs] Mama?
[last words before her death] Protect... the children, save the family!
[The hunter looks shocked where Babar's Mother charges towards him. The hunter shoots Babar's Mother with a gun and Babar's Mother steps on the gun. She shakes her head as the hunter backs away and falls to the ground as the hunter runs out of the way]
Mama! [The camera moves right upwards as the monkeys hide in the trees, then the scene fades to palm trees and the camera moves right downwards to where Babar calls his mother] Mama? Mama? Where are you? Mama? Cornelius, Have you seen my mother?
CorneliusCome with me, Babar. [sheds a tear]
[Cornelius takes Babar to his mother who is already dead]
NNNNNOOOOOOO!!!!
[Babar runs to his dead mother and starts sobbing. The elephants gather around Babar and his dead mother and trumpet sadly]
And so I was alone, the family moved on away from the hunter. But before I could go with them, there was something I had to do.
There is an unknown place the birds speak of, deep in the jungle, a place far away where even the hunter would never find us. I suggest we leave for it immediately.
No! This is our home. We have to stay here.
We all feel just as you do, Babar, but I'm afraid it's a question of survival.
You have a lot to learn, Babar. We're just no match for the hunter or any like him who come from the other side.
CorneliusWe all have much to learn. Perhaps in time, we may get to know the nature of our enemy and then be able to stand against him, but for now, Babar.
I understand.
For now our only hope is to leave before it's too late, if he finds us now, he'll hunt us down to the last! [The gunshot is heard and the elephants panic. The hunter shots an elephant, Babar gasps and the elephants run in panic. Babar backs to the tree]
[as two elephants carry Celeste and Arthur] Run, Babar! Run!
He'll follow us! Hunt us down! All of us!
CorneliusBabar! Babar! [Babar hears a gun click, gasps and sees a hunter come out through the bush. Babar screams and remembers his memories of his mother's final day]
[whistles] But how did you find them, father? Where did you go? What did you do?
[chuckles] That's another story, Alexander. It's enough to say for now that I made some wonderful friends and learned so very much along the way. Just as there are good people and bad people, there are good kings and bad kings, and one of the things that decides which we are is how we handle our responsibility to others.
Cornelius[clears his throat off-screen] Uh, speaking of responsibilities.
Ah, Cornelius.
CorneliusTime for your speech, Your Majesty.
Babar, are you busy?
Never too busy for you, my dear. Can we spare a minute, Cornelius?
CorneliusWithout question, Babar.
Take two, if you wish!
CorneliusBabar, my boy, I knew you'd come back! I kept telling everyone "That Babar's just too clever for the hunter!"
Only about two thousand times… but even so, I must say it’s a relief and a pleasure to see you again, Babar.
How are you, Pompadour?
Well, taking everything that's happened into consideration, lucky to be alive. I dare say better than you. What happened? You're all green.
Oh, this? It's a suit. [takes off his jacket and holds it] See? It comes off.
Cornelius[gasps] My tusks! You can shed your skin, like a snake!
Yeah, clothes are like skins you can change, and some of them itch like the Dickens.
CorneliusHmmm, they are rather attractive.
And we brought back all sorts of gifts, Mother, powder and perfume.
And creampuffs. [Pompadour comes to Babar's car, sniffs a tire and holds a gramophone's horn. As he does so, it plays music, causing him and the other elephants to scream and trumpet]
[laughs] That's a gramophone. Oh, I have so much to tell you and I'm so happy to have found you all safe and sound.
That's a matter of opinion.
CorneliusWe kept moving, at thinking we would find sanctuary, but now we’ve realized that no where was safe from the relentless hunter.
Not even this miserable place.
Your Highness.
You left when this trouble all started, Babar. It is good that you have returned, as we are about to put an end to it. Tomorrow we’ll stand and fight just as elephants should.
[last words before his death] Can't even find something decent to eat around here, and the hunter is closing in once again! [The elephants trumpet] We will run no further. Tomorrow at dawn, we will drive him out of the jungle! I call for an elephant stampede! [The elephants trumpet]
Cornelius[to the elephants] Shh! Quietly! [Old King pulls out a mushroom and eats it]
Your Highness, this is madness! [Old King eats another mushroom] The hunter has a gun, traps! We must out-think him!
It's all very well for you to say, Babar. You’ve forgotten what it's like to live in the jungle.
CorneliusYou have been away in the city on the.. other side a long time, Babar.
[off-screen] The elephant stampede [on-screen] is an honorable battle tradition that goes back to the days of the Mighty Mammoths. Isn't that so, your Majesty? [The Old King growls]
Your Majesty?
[The Old King closes his eyes and falls to the ground]
CorneliusMy tusks! [runs to the Old King who is now dead] Your Majesty!
Cornelius, what happened?
[A mushroom rolls out of the Old King's trunk]
CorneliusIt's the mushrooms. They're poison.
[Cornelius, Babar, and the elephants back away]
Horrors! What can we do now?
Cornelius[walks to the rock] Our illustrious king has sadly departed from us. Although he has gone to a better place, his wisdom and his courage will live on in our hearts forever. We will proceed with the old king's final wishes... Tomorrow, we stampede! [elephants trumpet] We have little choice, Babar.
It's madness. We don't stand a chance. [Babar has a sad expression]
How were things going, Babar?
Too slow, I'm afraid.
Rome wasn't built in a day, you know.
Yeah, but they didn't have the monsoons to worry about.
All I'm asking is that you slow down, take a break and play with your friends. [After Celeste and Arthur come along] It will do you a world of good.
I'm sorry, Madame, but I've got no time to play. It's going to rain.
Well, I'll play around of Monkey in the Middle with you. I'm afraid Babar is much too busy with his city.
CorneliusAnd I'm afraid, at this pace, it's not going to be much of a city after all. Not what it could have been, anyway.
[The scene fades to Madame, Celeste and Arthur playing Monkey in the Middle with the ball. Celeste and Arthur laugh, giggle and catch the ball which Celeste throws high]
I'll get it! [he runs and looks for a ball and finds it behind the bush, but gasps when he hears a snake]
Arthur, look out! [the snake bites her arm off screen] Ah! Oh!
Celeste! Celeste! [Celeste runs] Is she right, Celeste?
That was a poisonous snake, Arthur. Run and get help right away.
[Arthur runs and Celeste tearfully pants and pats her trunk on Madame before the screen fades into black]
[Cornelius and Pompadour are trying to get in the hunter's camp]
Cornelius[grunts] Right then, You first, Pompadour.
[Pompadour accidentally grabs the rope]
Whoa! DAAAHHH!!! Do something, Cornelius!
Cornelius[grunts] I can't. You're out to reach.
Rataxes, listen. The hunter's up to something strange. We have to work together to stop him.
No chance. [runs away]
I thought rhinos were afraid of nothing.
[Rataxes crashes through the entrance of the hunter's camp. Cornelius and Pompadour gasp]
[off-screen, while one man tries to shoot him] Run, [on-screen] while you still can! [Babar exits out of the hunter's camp]
Ahhh! [a man points his gun at Babar] Turns out rhinos are afraid of something after all.
CorneliusYes. Well, I'm afraid that it's over for us. But at least we can take it like gentlemen.
Can we vote on that?
[Rataxes charges towards the men. Cornelius and Pompadour hit the men with their trunks]
Good work.
CorneliusAfter you dear, Pompadour.
Why thank you, Cornelius.
[The hunter's men pouring some oil and King Tuttle and the turtles gasp. One turtle drums on the turtle's shell]
[gasps]
The hunter...
[A turtle keeps drumming on the turtle's shell as the hunter turns on his torch]
He's starting a... [The hunter throw the torch creating a jungle fire] Fire! We have to do something.
Don't you know it. [runs away]
[off-screen] Rataxes, come back! [on-screen] We need you! Let's go.
[Babar, Cornelius and Pompadour went to stop a jungle fire]
[Celeste and Arthur found Babar]
Babar, you're safe!
[looks worried] Babar, I'm scared.
[to Arthur] Cheer up. We'll beat this thing.
Cornelius[off-screen] Look out!
[A tree (which is on fire) falls toward Babar, Celeste and Arthur. Cornelius pushes the children out of the way before the tree crashes into them]
CorneliusBelieve it or not, Babar. We're holding it back. Keeping it at bay.
How long can we keep out?
CorneliusFor a while if the winds don't shift. [scratches his head] Everyone's tiring.
Somebody... [coughs] ...do something!
[running through the jungle fire] Help us! Save our water ways!
Why don't you help us save our homes?
CorneliusOh, no. Here come the others.
[The other animals runs toward Babar and Cornelius and ask them to save their homes]
EVERYBODY, JUST HOLD IT!!
[off-screen] Sire, sire! [on-screen when his clothes got ruined and burned] It's no use! The wind is shifting! The fire's out of control!
Now we can't even help ourselves.
[off-screen] Is that so? [on-screen when he and his rhino army arrived] Well, what happened to your idea of "Working together for a better jungle"? [Everyone looked at Rataxes] What about it?
Okay, All we all in this together?
Yeah!
Are we all gonna save this jungle?
Yeah!
Then, let's get to work!
Yeah! All right!
[Babar, Cornelius, Pompadour and the animals went to stop a jungle fire. Rataxes and the rhino army followed them as they all hold shovels]
Hey, Babar!
Hi, Zephir.
All set to trip the light fantastic?
I certainly am. [holds up a flower] What do you think?
It's you! [laughs]
It's not for me, it's for Celeste. Think she'll like it?
If you gave her a cold, she'd love it! Cornelius: Oh! This is disastrous! Not to mention terrible and catastrophes.
What is it, Cornelius? Are the
rhinos attacking?
I'm innocent!
CorneliusWorse than that. It's the seating
arrangements they're all wrong.
Seating arrangements?
