Haunted bridge. Rubbish! It's as tame as a pet rabbit!
Lines by Duncan 3
[after his crash] Glub-glub-glub! Bluggle by boiler!
Why do people always think it's me who's always grumbling? I mean, I've never grumbled in my life! Me, grumbling? Don't think so!
Scenes with Duncan 24
[stuck in the tunnel] I'm a plain blunt engine! I speak as I find! Tunnels should be tunnels and not rabbit holes! This railway is no good at all!
Don't be silly! This tunnel is quite big enough for engines who don't rock and roll.
I hope he doesn't hurt his passengers.
What's that about me? I'm a plain engine, and I believe in plain speakin'. Speak up!
Rusty warned Duncan about the bad bit of line.
Hmph! I know my way about. I don't need smelly diesels to tell me what to do.
Nothing's happened! Nothing's happened! Smelly old Diesel, clever me!
And he rocked and he rolled along the line.
Steady, boy!
But it was too late. Duncan was derailed on the bad bit of rail.
Sleepers and ballast! I'm off!
Aren't you gonna polish me too?
Sorry. Not today. I'm going now. I'm helping the refreshment lady this afternoon. We must get the ice cream ready for the passengers. Never mind, Duncan.
But Duncan did mind.
It isn't fair! Peter Sam gets a special funnel, Sir Handel gets special wheels, passengers get ice cream, but I'm not even polished!
No passengers means no polish.
And no polish means no passengers.
[to Peter Sam] Fancy not securing your trucks on a hill. They'll come back to spook you and your special funnel. WHOO!
And who's to say you're not afraid of ghosts?!
Ghosts? Things that go bump in the night? Rubbish!
Well, I'll tell you a story that'll make your funnel quiver.
[cut to the Old Iron Bridge one night]
A long time ago, a little engine was returning home. It was a misty moonlit night. As the engine crossed the Old Iron Bridge, he suddenly lost control, and plunged over the side, into the swamps below.
[the engine falls into the ravine]
He was never found again, but many a workman will tell you that when the moon is full, they have seen the little engine trying to get home. But he never reaches the other side.
[cut back to the present]
So, what do you think of that, Duncan?
Rubbish!
I'm a plain-speaking engine, so collect your trucks, and be quick about it!
Bossy boots!
Pushy puffer!
He just wants to get back to the bustle of the junction.
[without his whistle] I can't run on the tracks without my whistle. That would be too dangerous.
An engine is not an engine without a whistle.
[after the whistle-less Duncan has returned with the headmaster, who is still playing his organ]
Look! It's Duncan the musical engine!
Let's whistle along!
Toot Toot!
You really did well to deliver your goods without a whistle.
Did you think so?
Absolutely, even though an engine's not an engine without a whistle. [whistles]
Or an organ. ["toots" the organ]
And all the engines tooted back, except Duncan, who just grinned.
You must wait for the brake van.
Nonsense. I pushed heavy loads in plenty of times.
Let's go, Duncan, but we must be careful.
Don't use the old wooden bridge. It's dangerous.
How would you know? You're only a diesel.
[to Duncan, after crossing the collapsed bridge earlier] That was very irresponsible.
Yes, sir. Sorry, sir, and Rusty, you were very brave.
Yes, Rusty. You really are a useful engine.
Thank you, sir.
