Scenes with Edward 44
E Edward
It's Skarloey. What's he doing here?
Skarloey was pleased to see Edward.
I've been sent here for a rest. I was put in this shed so that I could see everything and not be lonely, but I do miss Rheneas. He's going to be mended.
E Edward
I wish I could be mended too, and pull coaches again.
Just then, some workmen arrived.
We're going to take you to the works now, Edward. Come along.
E Edward
Goodbye, Skarloey! Your railway is a lovely line!
Oh, it is! It is! You've cheered me up, Edward! Goodbye!
The engines wondered who would pull the Royal Train.
E Edward
I'm too old to pull important trains.
He'll choose me, of course.
You?! You can't climb hills! He'll ask me to pull the train, and I'll have a new coat of paint!
[cut to the following day]
Then, the rain came. Henry's driver and fireman covered up their cab to keep dry. A painter was on a ladder above the line. Henry's smoke blew high into the air. The painter couldn't see. Both he and the paint pot fell all over Henry. Paint went everywhere. Poor Henry.
P Painter
Well, you're not a pretty picture!
The Fat Controller spoke next.
You look like an iced cake, Henry. That won't do for the Royal Train. I must make other arrangements.
E Edward
Whenever that owl hoots, a mist rolls in. And there's a legend that when the mist is about, there's a ghost about, too. Take care on the old line, Henry.
We've got to find a good luck package. Do you know what that is?
E Edward
Oh, yes, indeed. Something old, something new...
Something borrowed, and something blue. But where do we find them?
E Edward
They're probably staring you in your smokebox. Now, I have to fetch my special train. I'm taking guests to the wedding.
E Edward
He doesn't even look like an engine.
Surely the Fat Controller won't let him pull coaches.
He's just Cranky on wheels.
E Edward
Driver says there's more snow on the way.
We'll soon be wearing our snowplows.
You'll enjoy that, won't you, Thomas?
You know I won't. I don't like my snowplow!
E Edward
[tells one of his Halloween stories] They say that on Halloween, the ghost engine returns to the smelters, looking for his lost whistle. "Whoo! Whoo!"
OE Other engines
Ooh! Ahh! Spooky!
[after Edward is mended]
ES Edward's Driver
I can hear music.
E Edward
That's not music, that's an alarm.
[The Fat Controller's engines are talking about Thomas' surprise]
[Thomas arrives]
Hmph! If they won't tell me, I don't want to know! [leaves]
D Driver
You have beaten Gordon's record!
Of course. I'm faster and finer than all the engines on Sodor put together.
Spencer's just a big silver showoff.
[The Fat Controller shows up]
Spencer will take the Duke and Duchess to their Summer House. Another engine will take their furniture.
TP Thomas, Percy, Gordon and James
Please, sir, may I go?
You all have other work to do. Edward will take the furniture.
Fancy sending a back engine to do an express engine's job!
He'll lose the race and let the old railway down!
Spencer has a bigger boiler, but that just means more hot air.
An honest steamie can beat a pouty puffer any day!
E Edward
[slowly puffs out of Knapford] Will do my best. Will do my best.
[having heard of Thomas' recent troubles] Thomas, you have caused confusion and delay. [tells Thomas what happened] Don't worry. All you need is some help.
Gordon has said a really useful engine never needs help.
E Edward
[laughs] Pah! I'm always helping Gordon up the Hill!
Gordon was very embarrassed.
Percy and Edward, you are to help Thomas.
[running out of water] I don't feel well.
D Driver
Your water tanks have run dry.
[Edward arrives]
Please push me to the water tank.
E Edward
I'm sorry. You wouldn't take my slate trucks to the quarry and now I'm running late with my passenger train.
[noticing the rainbow] Look at all those colors, Edward!
E Edward
That's a rainbow. An old story says you'll find something magical at the end of the rainbow.
Something magical! That sounds wonderful! I must find the end of the rainbow right away!
Are you looking forward to seeing my statue?
E Edward
It might not be your statue.
E Edward
It's all my fault, sir. I asked Thomas not to tell you I couldn't work. I was afraid of going for scrap. I'm very sorry. I should've talked to you this morning.
Yes. You should always tell me if you have a problem. You are a loyal hardworking and Really Useful Engine. I will send you to the fitter's yard straight away.
