Heather Glenn quotes from Daredevil: Born Again

Heather

[to Fisk and Vanessa] Without forgiveness -- and I say this to both of you -- there can be no real healing. Forgiveness isn't just the highest act of love, it's the only way forward.

Matt

You see, my old partner and I, straight out of law school, we were so broke, we pooled about everything we had together for an office bottle of O'Melveny's. Only broke it open when we won. Needless to say, the first bottle lasted a very long time. Just a nice little reminder that, once in a while, the system works.

Heather

You're talking about your friend Foggy Nelson, right?

Matt

Yeah...

Heather

I was kinda wondering when you would.

Matt

It's not easy. He certainly knew how to enjoy the, ah... The good moments when they came.

Heather

Well then, here's to a man who cooks, a well-won case, and... Foggy Nelson. May God hold them all in the hollow of His hand.

Heather

I think it's a fascinating question: What about a mask? Does it hide us and give us permission to do things that are legally and socially taboo, like violence? I mean, does a mask allow us to be our true selves, or does it strip away our identity and allow us to act like animals?

Matt

Hm, yeah. I don't know -- maybe both.

Matt

Okay, Heather, you realize I used to have this whole other life... And it was a lot different to this.

Heather

At your old firm, with your old friends. Foggy and... Karen.

Matt

Kinda. Y'know and sometimes, this-- This all feels... To- To me, it feels like... fake.

Heather

Fake?

Matt

Not- Not you.

Heather

Yeah. I'm sorry to do this, but you have been tamping down trauma for so long, you can't even see when it's bubbling up inside of you and threatens to ruin everything good you have.

Matt

I know. I know.

Heather

Everything good we have.

Matt

Yeah. And I'm trying really hard to fight it.

Heather

It's not a fight. It's a process.

I mean, all I ever wanted to be was an artist -- to be the person I am now, and... That's all thanks to you.

Heather

That is kind of you to say, but I'm just the conduit.

No, you're the key. Don't you see that? I mean, you've unlocked something in me, Dr. Glenn, something I didn't know was missing! You've allowed my creativity to flourish, to soar to heights I never even imagined!

Heather

So, um... Let's talk about homework--

No, you're not listening to me, Dr. Glenn! This city is finally starting to see me for who I really am.

Heather

Does that mean you've been displaying your art?

You could say that.

Matt

I'm not so sure you can put Muse and Daredevil in the same category.

Heather

Not so sure that you can't. They're just these underdeveloped boys hiding behind masks, trying to make it look like something more sophisticated.

Matt

That's a pretty dark view; I mean, think they're completely different animals.

Heather

You weren't there, Matt.

Matt

No, I'm just saying that... that Muse tried to kill you, Daredevil saved you.

Heather

I saved me. They were both out there for themselves.

Heather

What are you gonna do? Confront the mayor at his own party?

Matt

Maybe.

Heather

That's acting out, Matt.

Matt

And mental health is knowing when and where to do it.

Heather

I wanted to check on you... person-to-person. How are you, sir?

Fisk

I... I don't know. I haven't been asked that. I always... accepted love as a prison. I just never expected to be in it alone. Condolences are meaningless. Thoughts and prayers do nothing.

Heather

No one tells you the truth in times like this, which is... this is gonna hurt. And we don't know when, or if, this is going to end.
