In this episode: Dean Winchester (940), Damon Salvatore (715), Sam Winchester (665), Olivia Benson (637), Stephen Fry (608), Narrator (554), Clark Kent (523), Nate (486)

So let me see if I got this. You wanna get into real estate. Is that it? Is that what all this is about? Is that really your groundbreaking epiphany here? No. That can’t really be it, is it? In your word salad, I heard something about drug dealing. Thing is, Pfizer and Eli are a few billion ahead of you, and they can buy your death with the same half-cent it costs them to make a pill. You wanna get into billboards? Download Photoshop. Make yourself a cute portfolio. Stores, with the debt everyone’s in, I’m sure they’ll gladly give them to you, in which case, you’ll just be owned by their banks. Trains are even more bankrupt and don’t even get me started on the NYPD. Even that blunt you wanna roll is gonna be marked up by Big Tobacco itself. Point is, this city is one big, fat credit card bill, and you wanna pay it, all so you can, what, be another suit with a mortgage?

Behind every great fortune, there lies a great crime. That is the corporate motto of these United States. You wanna oink-oink with all the other capitalist pigs? It’s not about how much money. It’s about robbing money itself.

You know what? You don't need Mr. Robot. He barks a lot, but he ain't the bite behind all that havoc you wreaked, is he? See that right there, that's why you my dude. I'm more scared of you than him. You got something to show me? Then let the show begin.

Why-why-why-why would he do-

There is no why. You weren't the one in control. I know it's hard to go on when you're carrying this around, but you can.

You don't carry it alone. I'm here with you, bruh.

You. You did this. You did this to me.

I did it for you!

No. No, I don't believe you!

I did this because I could see this wound on your face! From the first time I met you, I just wanted to show you the light!

This is bullshit!

Ain't no bullshit, bruh! The only thing that happened now is you finally faced the truth you've been looking away from your whole life! And now that you know the truth... You can use it. I know 'cause I done it. I been through it. My ma, she used to pass me around to her friends when she'd go out to get high. And let's just say, her friends... They took a lot from me. Your dad, he took a lot from you, too, but he didn't take everything. See, this shit you went through? Most people don't know pain like that. They never will. And if they did, it would end them. But the people who dig in, the ones who keep surviving, those are the ones you can't beat. Those are the ones no one can beat. Because once you've weathered a storm like yours... you become the storm. You hear me? You are the storm. And it's the rest of the world that needs to run for cover. Your power is beautiful, Elliot. It's special. Don't you believe that?

I don't know.

Do you wanna believe it?

I just... I don't wanna be alone anymore.

Hey. You're not alone. I see you now.

JJanice

Did you know that cities were created by lightning? It's true. I heard it on a podcast. Villages used to be made of organic materials. Mostly mud, sticks. Then one night about 12,000 years ago, lightning hit a chunk of limestone. Which formed a powder that we now know as...Anyone?

[groans] Cement?

JJanice

Very smart, Darlene! You're absolutely right. Just think what a different world it would be if that lightning had struck a tree or a puppy instead. But the lightning hit stone, and the people of Turkey awoke to find they were in the cradle of modern civilization, all from one moment of violent convergence. Isn't it wonderful? Destruction can be so productive.

JJanice

Who's this?!

DMDeegan Maguire

Who the fuck is this?

JJanice

I asked you first.

DMDeegan Maguire

This is Deegan, who's this?

JJanice

This is Janice.

DMDeegan Maguire

Oh, yeah, the Dark Army lass! Listen, tell Dom, "thanks for the technicality, we're square now, et cetera, et cetera". Oh, and I'm really sorry about your boys.

JJanice

What do you mean? What "boys"?

DMDeegan Maguire

The fellas guarding Dom's Mum's house. I had to give 'em a bit of the holy show back there, there weren't no other way.

JJanice

What-- Speak English!

DMDeegan Maguire

I fuckin' killed 'em, dear. Shot 'em in the brains. With me gun. Don't worry, though, they died with dignity. Well, a few of 'em might've shat themselves, but I believe that's what the Frenchies call de rigueur, innit?

JJanice

Mister Deegan. I don't think that you have taken into account the primal forces you are meddling with here. If you proceed down this path, I will use every means at my disposal to make sure that you nev–

DMDeegan Maguire

Yeah, yeah. I heard it all before. Take a number. Et cetera and so forth. Now, you have yourself a merry little Christmas. Ta-ta for now, you flange!

The only reason I'm here is to make sure no one ever hurts you. That was supposed to be your father's job, but he failed. He was too weak. [sniffles] But you. You were strong. You fought back... The only way you could. You brought me here, to protect you... From him. I tried to keep you safe. Only show you the memories when the two of you were friends before... I thought I could... store the truth so you'd never have to see it... or feel it. The fact is... I didn't wanna see it either. I made a terrible mistake. I was afraid. Afraid of what this would do to you... To us. This was never my secret to keep. And you deserved better than to live in darkness for so long. I'm so sorry. I failed you too. I understand if you can't forgive me or... If you decide to shut me out for good. Just as long as you know I am not your father. I never was.

I know. You're nothing like him. That's why I created you. You're the father I needed, not the father I had.

If I could have stopped him. If I could go back in time, change everything that happened to you. Make it all go away.

Then I wouldn't be me. And I wouldn't have you. I don't know if I can go through with the hack anymore. I don't know if I can do anything.

Great. You decided to show. I know. You weren't expecting me. But I'm here for Elliot, same as you. What can you expect after what happened? Life throws you an error code like that, you don't have the luxury of a fucking pop-up explanation. So what are you supposed to do? Move on without answers, or stay down and drive yourself crazy with questions? That's where Elliot's mired in conflict. And that's why I'm here.

I was hoping we could talk in person.

You once told me that we would never see each other again. What makes you want to see me now?

Call it a change of mind. A realization.

Nah. If I'm hearing your voice on the other end of this call, I'm good.

And what does that mean?

You'll know soon enough.

A proposal. You stop whatever it is you're planning and I give you information that will prove to be very valuable to you.

You think I'm going to trust you?

Let me earn your trust by sharing first. It is about your friend. Angela.

What about her?

You see Elliot, you think Angela's dead. But she's not.

You sent me a picture of her dead body you sick fucking fuck.

And you believe what most people believe? Only what is right in front of you. I expected more from you.

You think I'm gonna believe this bullshit? You killed her. Angela's dead.

No Elliot. Angela's alive and if you allow me, I can take you to her. Would you like that Elliot? Would you like to see Angela again? To hear her voice? To hold her hand? (pause) Elliot, are you there?

Yes

I know you have regrets Elliot and pain. I know there are things in your life that you wish were different, just the same as Angela and I can show you a way you can make it all go away, just as I did for her. You can reset everything and live in the world you deserve, a world without all the pain you carry, without your past, without your regrets. Please Eliot. Let me show you the world that I showed your closest friend.

No I saw what you did to her. Before you killed her. That wasn't Angela. You used her. You turned her into someone else.

Then don't take my word for it. Ask her yourself. Elliot, we don't have to fight like this anymore. Let's finally make peace with each other as we were always meant to do. Let go of the anger and the hatred you've built up towards me. Understand I've only wished to help.

Here's the thing. I don't need help right now. You do.

Are you really going to make me force you into the car?

You know, I almost let myself believe you... When you said Angela was still alive. I know the kind of con man you are, how you operate. Even though I saw your men drag her dead body away. I still wanted to believe what you were saying. When you spoke to Mr. Alderson, I felt the power of your promise. All I could think was, well... maybe that's what my daughter felt when you came to her. The desperation to have all her pain go away, to have her past rewritten, and that's why it works, right? The one thing every person has, regret. You recognize that and then you use that weapon against them, to destroy them. But here's the thing I realized as of late. With Angela, it didn't work. Angela lives on in the lives of people who love her and that love... that love fuels their unwavering resolve to turn the tables to destroy you. So, you just remember, Zhang. You did all this to yourself.

You should take your own advice, Phillip. Accept your truth. It's over.

I warned you. I told you long ago. I'm a mercenary. I rather see you lose than win myself.

That can't be.

Finally, I found a way to take what's most important to you.

No, no.

Your project, your dream of another world. It's as good as dead. Think of it this way, Zhang. You didn't lose the game. You just ran out of time.

Whiterose isn't dead until her machine is!

Since when did her machine become our goal? You don't get it, do you? That's where all of this started! You go down this path, it'll never end. It'll always be something else. Another symbol to destroy, more people to save. This is an endless war. At a certain point, we gotta move on.

You don't want to help the world. You want to destroy it. You want to destroy it because you hate people for what they've done to you, and you can't look past that to actually see the good in it.

[A beat, then Whiterose chuckles]

Elliot, please. [She laughs] Don't make me laugh. You think I'm the one that wants to destroy the world? I'm the one that hates people? That can't see the good in it? Look around you. Everywhere we turn, all we see is spite from our so-called "fellow man". Every day we turn on the news, we're constantly told by our leaders, our scientists, our religions that our world is crumbling and that we are the problem. We are the root of everything that is wrong, that we don't stand a chance. We are told this so much that self-hatred is no longer considered an anomaly but a given, and yet you dare point the finger at me when I try to bring order to its chaos? When I have sacrificed everything to make it better?! [She stammers, then laughs again] Please! Don't make me laugh. [She keeps laughing, then calms down] On the contrary, it is my love for people that drives me. It always has been, because I know, deep in every person's heart, they are trying to be good. They were just dealt a bad hand by a world that is unfit for us. So please, don't make me fucking laugh and accuse me of hating people when you, Elliot, wear that hate like a badge of honor! Shall I remind you of your group's name? Admit it. Hatred has been your anthem, not mine.

You're right. I hate people. Scared of them. Been scared of them practically my whole life. People I loved... people I trusted... have done their absolute worst to me. And for a long time, that's all I ever knew. So yeah, I called my group fsociety. Because you know what? Fuck society. Society deserves to be hated for everything you said they did, and more. Fuck every last one of them for what we've all been through. But then there are some people out there -- and it doesn't happen a lot. It's rare. But they refuse to let you hate them. In fact, they care about you in spite of it. And the really special ones, they're relentless at it. Doesn't matter what you do to them; they take it. They care about you anyway. They don't abandon you. No matter how many reasons you give them. No matter how much you're practically begging them to leave. And you wanna know why? Because they feel something for me that I can't. They love me. And for all the pain I've been through, that heals me. Maybe not instantly, maybe not even for a long time, but it heals. And yeah, there are setbacks. We do fucked up things to each other. And we hurt each other. And it gets messy. But that's just us, in any world you're in. And yeah, you're right; we're all told we don't stand a chance and yet, we stand. We break, but we keep going. And that is not a fault! It's what makes us! So, no, I will not give up on this world. And if you can't see why, then I speak for everyone when I say "fuck you"!

I have learned to listen when time speaks. Our paths were linked too precisely to this moment for there not to be a reason. This is why. You get to decide.
