Evil Corp killed my mom. And my whole life... I've always wanted justice for her death. But how do you bring justice to a conglomerate as untouchable as Evil Corp? I thought I would never win. Even after I found out about your crazy plan, I still didn't believe it was possible. Not until I met Whiterose. It wasn't until she opened my eyes that I could see how all of the damage that they've caused... Could finally be... undone. When we succeed... A whole new world will be born.
[narrating] Darlene’s right. I can’t trust them. This was too easy. But at least I stopped them. For now. I can go home knowing that. But was she right about me? Am I sticking my head in the sand? Did my revolution just bury our minds instead of freeing them? Encrypting Evil Corp’s data was meant to empower us, but instead, it left us powerless, scaring us into even more submission. Five/Nine didn’t get rid of the invisible hand. It turned it into a fist that punched us in the dick. And, like a botnet, the fear I created is spreading so fast, it’s practically airborne. It’s swallowed us whole, digested us, and now we’re stuck in its asshole, waiting to be dumped out. And while we’re here, they are having their way with us. They’ve packaged our fight into product, turned our dissent into intellectual property, televising our revolution with commercial breaks. They’ve backdoored into our minds and robbed our truth, refurbished the facts, then marked up the price. This is what they do. This is what they’re good at. This is their greatest trick. Lobotomizing us into their virtual reality horror show. And this all started because I tried to hide from society. Remember? [Fuck society.] Yeah, I fucked society all right. I reset it to zero and if I don’t do anything about it, it’ll continue to grow in this malignant way. And that’s what I’m afraid of the most. This dark future I set in motion. Who knows what could come from this… What if, instead of fighting back, we cave? Give away our privacy for security. Exchange dignity for safety. Trade in revolution for repression. What if we choose weakness over strength? They’ll even have us build our own prison. This is what they wanted all along. For us to buy in on our worst selves. And I just made it easier for them. I didn’t start a revolution; I just made us docile enough for their slaughtering. And I can stand here and blame Evil Corp and every other conglomerate out there for taking advantage of us. Blame the FBI, NSA, CIA for letting them get away with this. Blame all the world’s leaders for aiding and abetting them. Blame Adam Smith for inventing modern-day capitalism in the first fucking place. Blame money for dividing us. Blame us for letting it. But none of that’s true. The truth is, I’m the one to blame. I’m the problem. This was my fault. All of it. I did this.
[narrating] But this doesn't mean I'm selling out, I'm just growing up. Signing up for a 401k, choosing an HMO plan with a good deductible, sign up for Trunk Club. Pop a few Zoloft. Join in on the live-action cartoon of 2D emotions that everyone else is in. I finally see the fatal exception error of my ways, and I know what to do now. I'm gonna fix the world I broke and put it back better than it was before.
[narrating] Maybe I fucked up an already fucked up world, but I'm fixing it now. Hitting undo. And friend, it feels great.
Get up. If you retract your statement, you will die. I'm not being overly emotional about this. It's just that's how little we care about your life. Forget this night ever happened, move on. Marry a nice, young lady who actually finds whatever you are charming. But understand one thing: as certain as the pain you're feeling right now, there is no option where you and Joanna see each other again.
Don't mistake my generosity for generosity.
You're a CHS! You understand what that means, right?
I don't understand half the letters you guys throw at me.
Confidential. Human. Source.
Cool. Now I get it. See what speaking English can accomplish?
[Mr. Robot attempts to shoot Tyrell. The gun misfires.]
Don't you see what just happened? [as Mr. Robot unjams the gun] Wait, wait, wait! Do you not understand what just happened?!
The only thing that happened is the gun jammed. It won't happen again.
No, no, no, this is proof! Don't you understand, this is proof!
Proof of what?
[Tyrell breaks down laughing.]
Proof. Of. What?!
When you told me I couldn't see what was above me, only in front of me...
What the fuck are you talking about?
We... are gods.
You really are a lunatic.
You held that gun point blank at me and fired. And yet, I'm standing right here talking to you. What are the chances?
I don't know, but shit happens all the time!
This wasn't chance! This was an act of God. And we have been invited into His circle to lead this revolution.
You haven't been invited anywhere! You forced yourself in--
There's more to your plan than this. You're smart enough to know that this hack alone isn't gonna kill EvilCorp. Once they realize they can't recover the data, they'll figure out a way to recreate it. And that's where you'll need me. Don't you see it yet? Now, the first time we met, I felt something between us. This is what I felt. An uncanny connection, a bond. We are meant to work together! That's what this is has all been about.
"Work together"? You're a psychopath. How do I even trust you?
[Tyrell puts his head up to the barrel of the gun.]
Pull the trigger again. I'll accept whatever fate decides. Pull it!
[Mr. Robot rips it away.]
Okay, Looney Tunes! You're right. There is a second stage to this. After tonight, I... I don't know what kinda support I'll have. I could use your help.
[Tyrell hugs Elliot.]
Thank you, Elliot. I love y--
Some things are better left unsaid. Subtext, you know?
I mean, the guy's a buffoon. He's completely divorced from reality. How would you even control him?
If you pull the right strings, a puppet will dance any way you desire.
[narrating] Samar is right. HR is firing someone. Me. Fuck, I can't leave the building until I get back on a machine and figure out how they're planning on getting around my patch. [aloud] Samar, I need you to distract them for me.
Wait, what?
[narrating, as he flees] Help me figure this out. Do not leave me. Stay focused.
Samar [to HR director]: Excuse me, I had a question for you.
We're looking for Elliot Alderson. Do you know where he is?
Oh, yeah, yeah, he's on floor eleven. You know, they have the best bathrooms, and he likes to take his morning dump around this time.
Samar, you need to be serious right now. We have talked about these micro-aggressions of yours.
I am being serious. He told me he was crowning his whole commute.
[pointing to nearby rooftop party] See that up there?
What is this?
You know why those people are enjoying themselves so much, even though thousands died today in the biggest attack in U.S. history?
That wasn't my fault. That wasn't supposed to happen. I wanna know who made that call. Was it Tyrell? What about this other attack? That was never a part of my plan.
See, kid, that's been your mistake the entire time, thinking this whole thing's about your silly little plan. No, your revolution was only allowed to happen 'cause it was bought and paid for people like them. Face it, no matter how hard you try... That's always the end result.
What the hell? You're going in?
Uh, mistress of a senator we got on the payroll. Powdered her nose with some bad shit, died a couple hours ago. I'm just here to make it scandal-free. You see what I mean? Literally, nothing can stop these shindigs, not thousands dead across the country, not a lifeless mistress in the guest bathroom. Hm.
When you surprised me with Five/Nine, I understood your move. A false flag operation, a temporary global crisis to help me pressure the administration into giving you your damn Congo. All went according to plan, which leaves me struggling to find the upside to this. Why come after me?
[pause] Think back on that fateful night. We sat, listening to a young woman playing a lyre. A lawsuit was brewing against my plant. You told me you would...
[in flashback] Handle that person as we usually do.
[back in present] And yet, your pet project, Angela Moss, was allowed to continue with her lawsuit... which put my plant in jeopardy. Your job was simple: manipulate her, control her. You couldn't, so I had to.
You little piece of shit.
Do not forget, I installed you as CEO only to protect my plant. You were meant to do what your predecessor couldn't, and look at what happened to him. And now, you will follow every order that I give you, including hiring your own replacement.
Fuck you!
In the interim, uh, I trust that there will be no interference with my plant being relocated to the Congo.
[laughs] This- this is funny. That's- that's- that's all this is. This is- this is, uh- this is a joke with a bad punchline.
You will also be called upon to handle all logistical issues: proper access for my staff, shipment of all materials...
[slams hand on table] No! You give me the real reason, motherfucker. Coming at me now. What in God's name do you hope to gain?
The opportunity to teach a lesson.
A lesson? You sadistic fuck. You got your U.N. vote; you got your plant; you got everything you wanted! No. You don't get off that easy, not until you explain it to me. You had to destroy so much. Why?
Because Phillip... I had to ask you twice.
That's the thing about deletion. It's not always permanent. There are many reasons you want to recover a file you just deleted. When you have that moment of panic, where it hits you, where that thing you thought had no value suddenly becomes important. Where you suddenly find your purpose for it... maybe there are still things left for me to do.
Why did you bail on me at the theater? I would have come here with you, if that's what you wanted.
No, you wouldn't. You keep saying you have something you have to do.
I do have something to do. Now come on. We're going back.
Why did you come to our house?
Yo, this isn't cool, okay? I gotta go.
Is it that important?
Yes.
Why?
It's none of your business.
You're a baby.
You're annoying.
You are.
This is a nightmare.
You are!
So are you!
I wish you were dead!
So do I!
