S1 E15Unfinished Business

CRCorin Revik/Singed

You've felt it, haven't you? Your decline. [Warwick/Vander growls in his sleep] Your power is finite, diminished by every use.

I've been expecting you, Doctor.

CRCorin Revik/Singed

Viktor. Incredible! What I wouldn't give, to glimpse the world through your eyes. To know what you know. [As he touches Viktor's Arcane hand, Viktor sees a vision of Singed reading to his comatose daughter in the past]

PSPast Singed

"His quest led him astray, of any trodden path, his own shadow dissolved to darkness. Now the only course, was forward. The only warmth, a dream of her waltz."

Knowledge is a paradox. The more one understands, the more one realizes the vastness of his ignorance.

CRCorin Revik/Singed

[glances at Warwick/Vander] Marvelous specimen, isn't he? The regenerative qualities of his blood, will stabilize you. Apex Shimmer combined with you, the apex form of Hextech. [kneels next to Warwick/Vander]

...What you are suggesting would destroy him. And for what? Conquest? The greed of warmongers?

CRCorin Revik/Singed

To complete your work. To save us from ourselves! You must survive, Viktor.

[eyes turn pearly with the Arcane, voice deepens] ...Do you believe in fate, Doctor? Our paths carved before us, guided by an invisible hand?

CRCorin Revik/Singed

Not fate. Evolution. Nature's greatest force, forever in flux.

[shakes his head] No. Evolution has a destination. Not to combat Nature, but to supersede it. The final, glorious evolution. But he isn't a specimen. He's a man... and he needs my help. I will not sacrifice his humanity, for your cause. You may leave.

CRCorin Revik/Singed

...Very well. But I assume you understand already: if you perish, this community is soon to follow. [stands, leaves]

[Jinx watches Isha steal her gun back through a telescope]

Slippery as an eel. [she chomps a fruit. Isha appears beside her and gives it to her] I knew you could get it. [Isha tests the telescope] Had some time to think lately. Ever since you dropped into my life, it's like I put on... glasses. Except I can't tell whether everything's blurry or clear. [they smile at each other] Wanna hear a dumb joke? [looking at Caitlyn and Singed through the telescope, who are approaching Warwick] A sentimental ex-con, a giant furball, and two of Piltover's most wanted walk into a weird cult. And here comes the punch line. [readies her gun and points it at them]

So much for happy reunions.

Well done, Caitlyn. [she nods to Rictus, who leaves. Vi strains against her cuffs, then spits on Caitlyn's face; Caitlyn wipes it away, glaring at her]

CRCorin Revik/Singed

[holding up his counter-serum] ...It's time.

Vi. You've been quite a curiosity: the one who captured Caitlyn's heart. I owe you thanks. [pours a glass of wine] Your absence provided a vacuum I was able to fill. In other circumstances, I might have offered you a position in my organization; your resilience is undeniable. [drinks, reaches for a knife] Of course, that won't be possible. You cause too many complications. Caitlyn must not be distracted.

[smirks] Don't worry; she's not distracted. [Ambessa frowns] You know, my father taught me about trust. He told me if I wanted it, there were only three things I needed to do. Be honest, even if it means telling a self-righteous windbag that her breath smells like a cesspool. Be patient... Mmm, still haven't cracked that one, but being tied up sure helps.

And the third?

Just shut...the fuck...up.

[flashback, removing the capsule from her rifle's scope and giving it to Vi] The fissures are blocked by guard towers. Patrols circle the commune at even intervals. Her personal guard are posted here, here and here. They aren't expecting trouble at home. With flawless timing, and luck, and-

[flashback] A big distraction. [She gestures for Caitlyn to hit her in the face with her rifle butt, bruising her cheekbone]

[flashback] Whatever you do... don't underestimate Ambessa.

[flashback, to Jinx] Vander's in trouble. I have a plan; you're not gonna like it.

Hope I was worth your time.

[voiceover] I understand, now... the message, hidden within the pattern. The reason for our failures, in the commune. The Doctor was right. It's inescapable. Humanity... our very essence. Our emotions: rage, compassion, hate. Two sides of the same coin, inextricably bound.

[returning to Warwick/Vander] Vander, wait!

NO! [Vi and Caitlyn glance back]

IIsha

[smiles tearfully at her and makes a pistol-shot hand sign] Pow!

[grief-stricken] ISHA!!!!!

[Voiceover] That which inspires us to our greatest good... is also the cause, of our greatest evil.

One can't go shouting from the rooftops about being thrust into parallel dimensions, without... awkward consequences. [passes Ekko his notebook] It seems, the anomaly which dislodged us from our proverbial reality, also scattered us across time.

[sighs] Man, I thought I was going crazy. How long have you been here?

One thousand, one hundred twenty-eight days, six hours, and... twenty minutes! Give or take

So- so you've just been waiting for me all this time?

Precisely! Or rather, imprecisely. I grew skeptical you'd arrive, even during my unusually long lifetime.

What about Jayce? Is he here?

[sighs, tunes his guitar] I fear he may have wound up elsewhere. The anomaly behaved differently, around him.

Please, tell me you've figured out a way to get us home.

That is a... veritable conundrum. I'm afraid Hextech, was never invented here. And, without a creation so prodigious as the Hexgates...

No anomaly.

Oh, it isn't all bad. I've been able to accomplish wonderful things in this world! Give it time to settle. This place will grow on you, you'll see!

"Grow on me?" [stands] I have people back home who need me. We don't belong here!

And yet... we can't leave.

[talking to her shrine of Vi] Sorry, sis. Someone's wigging out over his project and having an identity crisis again. [lights the sticks] No names. I got the "not living up to my potential" speech from Vander again. Reminds me of you. Hmm? [holds one out to Ekko]

[in disbelief] She's... dead? [sits] How?

That's not funny, Ekko.

It was a mistake to come here.

[scoffs] What's that supposed to mean? Just cause you're having a bad day, don't take it out on me.

Was it you?

[looking furious] You gave us the tip. We went on that job because of you.

[gasps] The job. That's why there's no Hextech here.

You should leave. Go! Before I do something I regret.

[standing to leave] Believe me, I'm working on it.

[covering Powder's eyes] Watch your step; we're almost there.

Ekko, I don't know what all this is about, but if you're trying to apologize, dragging me through the- [she breaks off as Ekko uncovers her eyes, revealing a mural of Vi-from his reality- beneath the Firelight Tree] You... painted this?

I had this dream... where things went another way.

[softly] She looks so... badass.

You don't know the half of it. [sits under the mural, Powder joins him] She was the toughest person in all of Zaun. Nothing scared her.

[examines the mural] No, not my sister. Vi was strong, because she was afraid. Her fear of losing us, is what made her fight so hard.

...You were different in my dream, too.

Oh, yeah, buster? Is that what this is about? You want me to change?

No! No, no, I just... You aren't the kind of person, who helps other people with their projects. Your ideas, change the world. I can't shake the feeling... that that's who you're supposed to be.

[shakes her head, softly] Things are good, Ekko. I- I like my life. I don't wanna lose, what makes me "me", chasing some wild dream.

Sometimes, taking a leap forward means... leaving a few things behind.

...You're a real mystery, aren't you, mister? [they both chuckle] Alright, out with it. What do you want from me?

It's so small.

Golly... we've done it!

Halfway there. [He activates the machine, and a flash of Arcane energy sparks next to Heimerdinger, startling him]

So... what does it do?

Uh... [He activates the machine, and the arcane energy sparks exactly the same, with Heimerdinger giving the exact same reaction]

So... what does it do?

You just asked me that.

No I didn't.

[sighs] I'm too tired for games! [he activates the machine as Heimerdinger reaches for a wrench]

No I didn't. [Heimerdinger reaches for the wrench again as Ekko turns around, shocked]

[staring at the anomaly device] It's a time-loop!

Huh? Oh! [bonks his head] A time-loop? [Ekko activates the machine again] Huh? Oh![bonks his head] A time-loop?

A time-loop.

You're going back in time!

Gadzooks! How did you stumble upon that?

I was playing with inversions on Jayce's acceleration rune.

How far did you go?

I don't know. A second?

Try going back further!

Take it slow, lad- we wouldn't want to push a new invention too far, too quickly.

One. Two. Three.

Gadzooks-

Four-

Ohhh! [his body starts to rupture into a bloody mess; Ekko immediately lets go of the device handle, reversing the process]

[wide-eyed] The limit is four seconds.

Are you certain, my boy? What were the indicators?

[marking the four-second mark on the machine and sits down] Trust me... it's four seconds.

Amazing. We could show it off, at the party!

We... aren't done. [Powder approaches, crouches in front of him and brushes debris off his cheek]

Please, go change before the party. [leaves]

I think I might know, how to give it a boost.

A boost?

A momentary upgrade, if you will.

That's great. Where do we start?

[gently] You can start, by attending your party. [Examines the device] One's thoughts are more easily gathered in isolation. And what's the point of a device like this... if you don't enjoy the time you have?

...Some night.

It's beautiful.

[teasingly] Where'd you learn those moves?

Oh, I was just following your lead

[chuckles] Mmm, he's got lines!

[chuckles] Hey. Uh... I just want to thank you. You know, for everything. I used to dream the undercity could be like this. But somewhere, I... got consumed by all the ways that it wasn't. I gave up on it. Gave up on you.

[lays her head on his shoulder] I've... never seen you give up on anyone, Ekko. [Ekko rests his head on hers]

You ever wish you could just... stay, in one moment?

Sometimes... taking a leap forward, means... leaving a few things behind.

I promise I'll never forget this.

[sits up, smirking] You better not. [she leans forward, but Ekko moves back]

Sorry, I-

No, it's- it's fine, I- [they both break off]

Can we... just pretend, like it's the first time?

MNMaddie Nolan

...Maybe we can negotiate.

Not with Ambessa. I saw it in her eyes; she will burn Piltover to the ground, for my betrayal.

MNMaddie Nolan

[touches her hand] You can't blame yourself-

[pulls away] I don't need consolation. I need a plan-

[angrily enters] Arrested?!

I can handle this, Maddie. Check on my father? Vi-

She saved your life!

If you will just calm down for one-

So even knowing you'd never have done the same, for her!

We'll never know, will we? [folds her arms] You didn't let me in on that part of your plan!

Clearly the right call, since you still can't trust her enough not to shove her, in a box..

Trust? You believe I'm so daft, I can't recognize a contingency? She wasn't there for my benefit, she was there because you didn't trust me to follow through!

Can you blame me? How long were you sidled up with that shifty, self-serving war-pig? She oinked poison into your ear, and you just ate it up!

[angrily] I KNOW! [sits down, composes herself] ...The only thing Jinx cared about, was getting you to safety. Then she just... surrendered. I didn't even have time to think, before they hauled her off. She's being held in the bunker, while I... while I decide what to do. I was waiting for you to recover.

Cait... she's changed.

...We can't erase our mistakes. None of us.

...Who decides who gets a second chance?

[voice broken] If you're here to kill me... make sure to finish the job.

...Vi thinks you've changed.

She can't accept, what you and I know. [digs her nail into her cuticle until it bleeds] There are no happy endings.

Is that all you have to say for yourself? There won't be a trial. I'm giving you this one chance, to atone for your actions, all the pain you've caused. [pause] No amount of good deeds, can undo our crimes! [She slams her fist against the bars, causing Jinx to flinch]

...Do what you came here to do.

Hating you... I've hated myself. I just don't have the energy for it, any longer. [starts to leave]

[softly] I didn't know your Mom was there. [Caitlyn stops] It..probably wouldn't have made a difference, but... I didn't know.

... Jayce? What happened to you?

JTJayce Tallis

...[looks away] Doesn't matter.

Something... happened to me, too.

JTJayce Tallis

You're the reason, we didn't die in the attack.

Apparently so.

JTJacye Tallis

How long have you known?

It started then. Feelings I... couldn't explain. But this... [examines her Mage's tattoos] I still don't fully understand.

JTJacye Tallis

[angrily] Why just me? Why not save all of them?!

It wasn't a decision! One moment you're addressing the Council, and the next, we're standing in rubble! I didn't have any greater awareness!

JTJayce Tallis

How can I know you aren't lying to me?

Why would you think I am?

JTJayce Tallis

Because you used me! And Viktor, for Hextech! You called us "investments."

Two brilliant young inventors who shared a penchant for impossible surprises. [Jayce begins to experience flashbacks from the apocalyptic reality] Carrying magic from myth, to machine. Rallying the hope and hearts of a nation. You were a wise investment-

[speaking through the figurine] Allow us a moment of civility, Jayce. We must talk.

JTJayce Tallis

Viktor. [approaches] How did you get in here?

You once benefited, from my knowledge of this place.

JTJayce Tallis

That was a long time ago.

Had you given me the chance, I would have shown you the merits of my work. Our work.

JTJayce Tallis

No, this is your obsession. Everything you've done to these people, you did alone. [he swings, but the figurine easily dodges several attacks, then flies up to the ceiling, hiding in the shadows as Mel and Jayce search for it]

Perhaps. But I'm alone no longer. I now speak with all their voices.

JTJayce Tallis

Say what you came here to say.

Somehow, I think you already understand what must transpire, to complete my mission. I would prefer to do so in peace. The Noxian has other intentions.

Mother?

...The Arcane, stirs within you. [he begins to break through her spells, but is knocked back by Jayce's hammer; Mel collapses, exahusted.]

JTJayce Tallis

Viktor... for all our sakes, stay away from the Hexgates. [he charges the figurine again, but it easily dodges his attack, then slams him against the Council table]

Your mind has become rigid, Jayce. Fear, clouds your judgement. This chain of events, started with you. [Jayce attacks again, but the figurine flies over his swing, then traps him in its' arms.] In my confusion, I was unable to reconcile this. But I now understand. The Glorious Evolution, is destined. Let us instead do this once again as partners.

JTJayce Tallis

My partner... died in this room.

...It was my sincere desire to avoid this.

Doctor... you may begin the process.

[scoffs] Go away. You're too late.

Oh, it's a Hell of a place. It says something about the late Marcus, that he found imprisoning your sister to be a greater mercy than... killing her.

Killing isn't mercy.

[chuckles] A spark of rebellion still burns inside that husk, I see. No... Killing is a cycle. One that started long before Vander and me, and that will continue, long after the two of you. [the blue glow of his scarred eye becomes the Hextech gem in Jinx's hand, revealing he is a hallucination]

... I'm done, running in circles.

We build our own prisons. Bars forged of... oaths, codes, commitments. Walls of self-doubt and accepted limitation. We inhabit these cells, these..."identities"... and call them us. I thought I could break free, by eliminating those I deemed my jailers. But... Jinx... I think the cycle only ends, when you find the will to walk away.

Jinx? [she appears outside Jinx's cell]

[looks up briefly] ...What are you doing?

I swiped these from the guards' station. [unlocks the door] If you come, help, use all that explosive potential of yours for good... maybe we can re-write your story, like you did with Zaun. What do you think?

[brokenly]... Sure, Vi. [Vi rushes into the cell and embraces her, crying] ...You're never gonna give up on me, are you?

Hey!

[gently] You don't have to worry about me, anymore. You don't need to feel guilty about... being happy. You deserve, to be with her. [backs toward the bunker entrance]

[rushes to the bars] Wait!

There's no good version of me.

What are you gonna do?!

...Break the cycle. [leaves]

[hammers on the bars] Jinx! [lets out a tearful scream, then punches the wall]

[unlocking the cell Vi is in] Had a feeling I might find you here.

I really believed she'd help. Say it. You told me so. I was an idiot to trust her. I went behind your back. I choose wrong every time. [voice breaks] And because of it, I've lost everyone.

[leaning against the wall next to her] You really think I needed all the guards at the Hexgates? [Vi looks at her] Sorry to say, you've grown a bit predictable. [Vi kisses her, and they begin to make out]

[breaking away] Uh, listen, while you were gone, I... saw someone-

Cait. I don't fucking care. [they have sesbian lex]

Wait! [Jinx glances back as he approaches] I just, wanna talk-

Get outta here, Ekko.

I just- [she detonates the bomb again, but Ekko uses his Z-Drive to re-do the moment] I just wanna talk to you, Pow- Jinx.

You're too late, Ekko.

WAIT! [he uses the Z-Drive again as she detonates the bomb, chuckles ruefully] Always a dance with you. [Jinx stares at him] I- I think I'm just gonna sit here a minute. Y'know, catch my breath... see if I can talk an old friend out of blowing us up.

...I'm tired of talking. [she steps forward, plummeting into the abyss]

NO! [he lunges forward, using the Z-Drive again] Y'know, I- I learned from someone... very special... that, no matter what happened in the past... it's never too late to build something new. [Jinx notices the monkey figurines inside his Z-Drive, shaped the same as her Monkey Bomb and doodles] Someone worth building it for.
