[Viktor and Jayce are attempting to break into Heimerdinger's lab, and they are caught by Mel with a flashlight.]
Mel
Hm, willing to risk exile for your endeavor. That's quite the conviction.
Councilor! Uh... What a surprise to see you, huh?
[at the same time] Wait a minute, this isn't my bedroom. [chuckles] How could I have...
[knowing they're caught] Please. We can prove that it works.
Mel
Hmm. You couldn't do so earlier today, how is tonight any different?
We figured out how to stabilize it.
Mel
You're the Professor's assistant.
Mel
Even if you manage to prove your theory, the Council would destroy it.
Heimerdinger will recognize the potential.
Mel
[chuckles] He already does. It scares him. It scares them all.
Mel
I recognize that any worthwhile venture involves risk.
[keys jangling, footsteps, and whistling are heard. Jayce looks panicked]
[desperate] Councilor, this technology, it's real. And no matter what happens here, it's going to change our world. We should be the ones to lead it. Piltover, the land of progress, equality, innovation. I know it sounds impossible, but when have we ever let that stop us? Please, just give us a chance.
Mel
One night, gentlemen. Impress me, or I'd suggest you pack your bags.
Mel
You did well today.
Mel
It's only a matter of time before those old fools on the Council officially accept your research.
[sighs] My father put hammers in the hands of the people, and they built this magnificent city. Imagine the wonders they could create if we put magic in their hands.
Mel
The world will never be the same. The Medardas usually only take from the world. We're not often in the position to give anything back. [she brushes her hand against his]
I couldn't have done it without you. [Mel smiles and kisses him]
[Ambessa arrives in Piltover]
Mel, Elora. You didn't have to come out to meet me.
Mel
[rolling her eyes] What are you doing here, mother?
Can I not visit? I've heard stories of Piltover's hospitality.
Mel
[chuckles] You didn't sail halfway across the continent to sample the local cuisine.
[walking over to her] It's been over a decade, Mel.
Mel
Since you banished me.
Such drama. I sent you here to oversee our family's interests and grow yourself. Which you have.
Mel
You said, "Perhaps your sentimentality will be more at home with those soft-spined idealists overseas."
[putting an arm around her] You have your father's memory.
Mel
Don't try to ingratiate yourself with me.
Mel
Or that. [they walk a little]
Mel
[gasps] What happened?
[sighs] He crossed the wrong man. I was distracted. That's a mistake I can't take back. [Mel breaths heavily] Your Jayce Talis has turned his eye to Hextech weaponry.
Mel
[scoffs, realizing her motives] I knew it.
War is coming. You've let the problems of your undercity fester too long.
Mel
Piltover isn't like Noxus. War isn't our first and every recourse. I sponsored Hextech to protect the city, not burn it to the ground.
It's not conjecture, it's a fact. Weapons can't be unmade and they are always used. I'm here to help guide you to the right decisions.
Mel
I don't need your guidance.
Mel Medarda
... Jayce? What happened to you?
JTJayce Tallis
...[looks away] Doesn't matter.
Mel Medarda
Something... happened to me, too.
JTJayce Tallis
You're the reason, we didn't die in the attack.
Mel Medarda
Apparently so.
JTJacye Tallis
How long have you known?
Mel Medarda
It started then. Feelings I... couldn't explain. But this... [examines her Mage's tattoos] I still don't fully understand.
JTJacye Tallis
[angrily] Why just me? Why not save all of them?!
Mel Medarda
It wasn't a decision! One moment you're addressing the Council, and the next, we're standing in rubble! I didn't have any greater awareness!
JTJayce Tallis
How can I know you aren't lying to me?
Mel Medarda
Why would you think I am?
JTJayce Tallis
Because you used me! And Viktor, for Hextech! You called us "investments."
Mel Medarda
Two brilliant young inventors who shared a penchant for impossible surprises. [Jayce begins to experience flashbacks from the apocalyptic reality] Carrying magic from myth, to machine. Rallying the hope and hearts of a nation. You were a wise investment-
[speaking through the figurine] Allow us a moment of civility, Jayce. We must talk.
JTJayce Tallis
Viktor. [approaches] How did you get in here?
You once benefited, from my knowledge of this place.
JTJayce Tallis
That was a long time ago.
Had you given me the chance, I would have shown you the merits of my work. Our work.
JTJayce Tallis
No, this is your obsession. Everything you've done to these people, you did alone. [he swings, but the figurine easily dodges several attacks, then flies up to the ceiling, hiding in the shadows as Mel and Jayce search for it]
Perhaps. But I'm alone no longer. I now speak with all their voices.
JTJayce Tallis
Say what you came here to say.
Somehow, I think you already understand what must transpire, to complete my mission. I would prefer to do so in peace. The Noxian has other intentions.
Mel Medarda
Mother?
...The Arcane, stirs within you. [he begins to break through her spells, but is knocked back by Jayce's hammer; Mel collapses, exahusted.]
JTJayce Tallis
Viktor... for all our sakes, stay away from the Hexgates. [he charges the figurine again, but it easily dodges his attack, then slams him against the Council table]
Your mind has become rigid, Jayce. Fear, clouds your judgement. This chain of events, started with you. [Jayce attacks again, but the figurine flies over his swing, then traps him in its' arms.] In my confusion, I was unable to reconcile this. But I now understand. The Glorious Evolution, is destined. Let us instead do this once again as partners.
JTJayce Tallis
My partner... died in this room.
...It was my sincere desire to avoid this.
Doctor... you may begin the process.
[straightens and removes her visor]... You fought well, child.
Mel Medarda
[straightens, grabbing the amulet around her neck] A wolf has no mercy.
LLeBlanc
Your daughter is wiser than you credit. I salute you, Ambessa. For one without the Gift... you were quite the thorn.
LLeBlanc
What are you doing, Sister?
Mel Medarda
I see your face, Deciever.
[smiles] ...You are the Wolf.
