Vic Aguilar quotes from The Penguin

Oz

You're gonna do everything I say, or else I'll murder you and, uh... anyone you care about. You got it?

Yeah.

Oz

Beautiful! I feel better. You feel better?

Vic

Yeah.

Oz

Good.

Oz

Shit, Ma, this is Vic--

Get out!

Oz

He's gonna help take care of you! Just in case I need to handle some thing while we're gone, alright?

Huh. "Vic".

Oz

Yeah.

What, is he a nurse?

Oz

Well, kinda.

Vic

No, I'm not a nu--

Oz

Well, he's got nurse-like qualities, alright?

Oz

Jesus, Vic, relax! We just put the Maronis back on the map. If Sal's got a problem with that, then... fuck him. I don't need him. I don't need any of 'em. From here on out, there's no more playing it safe. Drops are yesterday's game. I'm gonna get whatever the hell's in that shipment, I'm gonna run this goddamn city, and I want you in on it.

Vic

Really?

Oz

Yeah, you earned it! Y'know, for the most part. And guys like us? We gotta stick together.

Oz

It's gotta be Sofia running a little game. We could be driving to our deaths right now.

Vic

Sh-- Should we turn around?

Oz

Nah, the only way out of this is through, kid.

Oz

[after forcing Vic to lay down with Ermad and Castillo's bodies] How does it feel, Vic, huh? Nah- hey, hey, don't close your eyes, look at them, remember, this is what happens when you choke, you understand!? That's a one-way street, Vic! You know how close I got to get popped tonight!? 'Cause you fucked up!? Then I gotta plant the blade and the jewels, a lotta work for me, Vic! A lotta work!

Vic

Look, I'm-- I'm-- I'm sorry, okay? I mean it!

Oz

You know what? Fuck apologizing. You wanna survive? You gotta adapt. You gotta respond to the environment of the situation! You gotta think on your feet! You gotta be quick! Otherwise, this is what happens! Whatever Carmine threw at me, I delivered on, every goddamn time! You get what I'm saying?

Oz

I gave you clothes, money, a place to crash. You got all the opportunity in the world right fuckin' here, for chrissake! But this? This is all you feel? You could've left whenever you wanted. But you chose to stay. How 'bout you ask yourself why?

Vic

Oz, I don't--

Oz

No, no, no, let me help! You stayed... 'cause you want something better. You want more than your father ever had.

Vic

No! My dad would be ashamed of me.

Oz

You wanna know what's shameful, Vic? Working your whole goddamn life, having nothing to show for it. You still think there's... good, bad? Right and wrong? There ain't. There's just this. Survival. Security, pleasure. They don't give out awards for dying in the projects.

Vic

Fuck you.

Oz

Fuck me?! FUCK THE GODDAMN WORLD! They don't give a shit about you, or your family! You think you're nothing. You are nothing 'til the day you die. I thought you were smart, but that's the life you want. Guess what, Vic? Good news! You already got it. So go, get the fuck out of here. You don't deserve this.

Oz

I ever tell you about Rex Calabrese?

Vic

Uh, no.

Oz

Well, he ran my neighborhood when I was a kid. Had this, uh, gold Cadillac, white leather seats. It was beautiful. When it rolled down your street, I mean... Felt like your block was blessed. Rex's ride, it wasn't just a car, it was a fuckin' chariot. Made a kid with a bum leg felt like even he could be king. The end of an era.

This looks like the apartment I had with my boys. I hate it.

Vic

I used to live over there.

The East Side is cursed. It takes everything from you.

Vic

What happened to 'em? To your brothers.

Oz

The city took 'em. Just like it took your family. And there was nothing I could... I was, uh... I was too weak.

Oz

As long as we stay sharp, duck 'em into tunnels, these Maroni-Gigante, whatever-the-fucks, they can sniff around all they want. I mean, they're so busy with their noses up they'll never look down. But you and me? Look around. Look at what they got, kid. The good people of Crown Point, hard at work. Right, protecting us. Keeping this whole fucking thing quiet. We got their loyalty... and we got their love. You know why? Because we pay 'em. You know how meaningful that is, Vic? To be the guy in the neighborhood who takes care of people? They're gonna tell stories about us one day, kid.

Vic

You think?

Oz

I fuckin' know it. Victor Aguilar, Oswald Cobb. Yeah. Our names are gonna live forever.

Vic

Oz, I'm sorry.

Oz

Fuck your guilt! Just get me an army, kid. Go.

Vic

Goddammit, Oz, listen to me! You gave people jobs in Crown Point! You got the power back on!

Oz

Yeah?

Vic

Nobody did that! Alright? Nobody else did that! Nobody even tried! You gave people dignity! Bliss, that's bigger than Bliss! Alright, so... Get the hell up, let's go! Get your shit together and, uh... you know. Be you!

Oz

You, you, uh... You practiced that, huh?

Vic

Shut up.

Oz

No, no, that's good. That's good. You gotta, uh, project more, you know? From your gut.

Oz

I, uh... I can't bring you with me this time.

Vic

What do you mean?

Oz

I mean that's the thing about family.

Vic

Oz...

Oz

It's your strength.

Vic

Oz, what are you--?!

Oz

It drives you. But fuck if it don't make you weak, too.

Vic

Oz! Oz!

Oz

And I can't have that no more.

Vic

Oz! Please, please!

Oz

I can't have that shit, I can't!

Vic

Please, please! Oz! Oz! Oz!

Oz

It's too much...

Vic

Please!

Oz

Too fuckin' much!

Vic

Oz--!

Oz

I'm sorry. I'm sorry. You're a good man, Vic. You got a good heart.

Oz

It wasn't for nothing.
