S1 E15Unfinished Business

Hello, sister.

(looking at the baby) Oh, she looks like her mother. Maybe there is a god after all.

Well she has a hint of the devil in her eyes. That's all me.

(weakly) This is the last note in a song that I started a century ago, when I brought your dad to town. And for that I am sorry.

(in the letter to her daughter) Dear Zoey, or Caitlin, or Angela. To my little girl. Your dad just asked if this was a love letter. I guess it kind of is. I never got to know my mother. I jave no idea what she must have felt when she carried me, so I thought I'd write to you so that you could know how happy I am at this very moment, how much your father and I can't wait to meet you. And I want to make you a promise, three things that you will have that I never did. A safe home, someone to tell you that they love you every single day, and someone to fight for you no matter what. In other words, a family. So there you go, Baby Girl. The rest we're gonna have to figure out together. I love you. Your mom.

Once upon a time, there was a majestic king, who lived with his noble brother in a colorful kingdom where music and art were celebrated. The king did not foresee having a child, but he lived in an enchanted land where all things were possible. In time, he was blessed with a beautiful baby daughter for whom he wished only peace and happiness. Still, the king had demons who pursued him. There was a ruthless beast who wanted to take the kingdom for her own. Armed with a pack of untamed creatures, she drove the other magical beings from the land, and there was a wicked sorceress with enchanted stones that weakened the king on every full moon. Seeing the shadow his enemies cast upon his home, the king was driven to send his beloved princess away, convincing all who remained that she was forever lost. The king, in his sorrow, turned away from the world. The castle closed its doors, and the kingdom fell. Some say that the only light that shines in the castle illuminates the shadow of the once mighty king in the room meant for his child, but as the ruthless beasts took rule over the falling king's realm, little did they know that he and his brother would not rest until their enemies were vanquished For they believed that one day they would heal their kingdom and bring their princess home so that she might live happily ever after.

I'm not looking for tough guys, Josh. I'm looking for warriors.

What's the difference?

[entering] A warrior fights for what they believe in. A warrior fights for his family.

So we risk our lives while you hide?

I am the top dog. Your job is to ensure the battle doesn't come to me.

Gia has proven herself. She knows what she's getting into. So she's gonna be the first one that I turn. Everybody else, first, I need to be sure that you can handle moving up a notch on the food chain, the emotional ups and downs, solitude, and bloodlust. Imagine hearing the sound of a heart beating, beating, beating and wanting more than anything to feed. That's what it's like to be a vampire. It's not for everybody. Some folks, well, let's just say, it brings out the worst in them.

New Orleans is a vicious place, and your enemies are everywhere Behind your back, before your eyes. You will need to remain vigilant against those who would seek to destroy you, some of whom you may never see coming.

What could possibly be more important than the return of our mother?

Our father. I saw him, standing there in the flesh as you do now. He was enslaved with some spell cast by Davina. He holds the stake. If she chooses to release him...

Well, then there's only one question we need to ask, isn't there? Which of our parents do we kill first?

[to Klaus and Elijah] Do tell me, what'd I miss? Regale me with your contributions to society. Medicine, philosophy, art? Or have you two merely cut a path of destruction across time?
