Mr. Robot
Hey, you like Ferris wheels? Ah, it's beautiful. It gets better the higher up you go, you know. I love it up here. You like it?
I'm here to tell you I'm turning you in. I'm giving them all the information.
Mr. Robot
Let me tell you why you're really here. You're here because you sense something wrong with the world. Something you can't explain. But, you know it controls you and everyone you care about What are you talking about? Money. Money hasn't been real since we got off the gold standard. It's become virtual. Software, the operating system of our world. And, Elliot, we are on the verge of taking down this virtual reality. Think about it. What if you could take down one conglomerate? A conglomerate so deeply entrenched in the world's economy that "too big to fail" doesn't even come close to describing it?
You wanna create another financial meltdown like the one we just had, but way worse. Yeah, why would I want that? Everyone would lose their money.
Mr. Robot
What if I told you that this conglomerate just so happens to own 70% of the global consumer credit industry, huh? If we hit their data center just right we could systematically format all the servers, including backup.
Mr. Robot
All the debt we owe them. Every record of every credit card, loan, and mortgage would be wiped clean. It'd be impossible to reinforce outdated paper records. It'd all be gone. The single, biggest incident of wealth redistribution in history.
Mr. Robot
Tell me one thing, Elliot. Are you a one or a zero? That's the question you have to ask yourself. Are you a yes or a no? Are you going to act or not?
Yo... You've been staring at a computer screen way too long, homie. Life's not that binary.
Mr. Robot
Isn't it? Sure, there are grays... but when you come right down to it, at its core, beneath every choice, there's either a one or a zero. You either do something or you don't. You walk out that door, you've decided to do nothing, to say no, which means you do not come back. You leave, you are no longer a part of this. You become a zero. If you stay, if you want to change the world, you become a yes. You become a one. So, I'll ask you again: are you a one or a zero?
Mr. Robot
Without you, there is no plan.
That's it? It's over? You expect me to believe that? See you in another life. Did you hear that? I can't believe it. Is that really happening? Fsociety's finally over. The recent glitch in the otherwise neat reality I created over the years, I'll never slip up like that again. I'm gonna be more normal now. Maybe Shayla could even be my girlfriend. I'll go see those stupid Marvel movies with her. I'll join a gym. I'll heart things on Instagram. I'll drink vanilla lattes. I'm gonna lead a bug-free life from now on. Anything to protect my perfect maze. [pokes his head into Gideon's office] Hey, Gideon. Is that dinner still on for tonight?
Um, yeah, sure. Uh, uh, you want... You want to come?
Can I bring my girlfriend?
Well, I haven't asked her yet, but I will. Hopefully she'll say yes.
Uh, yeah, sure... Perfect.
Was he drinking Starbucks?
Mr. Robot
Sometimes, lies can be useful, Elliot. Sometimes, they protect you.
And sometimes, they help you get away with murder!
Mr. Robot
When the truth is painful, son -- and it often is -- a lie is the only remedy. There's too much truth, too much honesty? That'll kill ya.
[Mr. Robot attempts to shoot Tyrell. The gun misfires.]
Don't you see what just happened? [as Mr. Robot unjams the gun] Wait, wait, wait! Do you not understand what just happened?!
Mr. Robot
The only thing that happened is the gun jammed. It won't happen again.
No, no, no, this is proof! Don't you understand, this is proof!
Mr. Robot
Proof of what?
[Tyrell breaks down laughing.]
Mr. Robot
Proof. Of. What?!
When you told me I couldn't see what was above me, only in front of me...
Mr. Robot
What the fuck are you talking about?
Mr. Robot
You really are a lunatic.
You held that gun point blank at me and fired. And yet, I'm standing right here talking to you. What are the chances?
Mr. Robot
I don't know, but shit happens all the time!
This wasn't chance! This was an act of God. And we have been invited into His circle to lead this revolution.
Mr. Robot
You haven't been invited anywhere! You forced yourself in--
There's more to your plan than this. You're smart enough to know that this hack alone isn't gonna kill EvilCorp. Once they realize they can't recover the data, they'll figure out a way to recreate it. And that's where you'll need me. Don't you see it yet? Now, the first time we met, I felt something between us. This is what I felt. An uncanny connection, a bond. We are meant to work together! That's what this is has all been about.
Mr. Robot
"Work together"? You're a psychopath. How do I even trust you?
[Tyrell puts his head up to the barrel of the gun.]
Pull the trigger again. I'll accept whatever fate decides. Pull it!
[Mr. Robot rips it away.]
Mr. Robot
Okay, Looney Tunes! You're right. There is a second stage to this. After tonight, I... I don't know what kinda support I'll have. I could use your help.
[Tyrell hugs Elliot.]
Thank you, Elliot. I love y--
Mr. Robot
Some things are better left unsaid. Subtext, you know?
[pointing to nearby rooftop party] See that up there?
Mr. Robot
What is this?
You know why those people are enjoying themselves so much, even though thousands died today in the biggest attack in U.S. history?
Mr. Robot
That wasn't my fault. That wasn't supposed to happen. I wanna know who made that call. Was it Tyrell? What about this other attack? That was never a part of my plan.
See, kid, that's been your mistake the entire time, thinking this whole thing's about your silly little plan. No, your revolution was only allowed to happen 'cause it was bought and paid for people like them. Face it, no matter how hard you try... That's always the end result.
Mr. Robot
What the hell? You're going in?
Uh, mistress of a senator we got on the payroll. Powdered her nose with some bad shit, died a couple hours ago. I'm just here to make it scandal-free. You see what I mean? Literally, nothing can stop these shindigs, not thousands dead across the country, not a lifeless mistress in the guest bathroom. Hm.
Mr. Robot
Okay. But your not seeing the big picture.
There is no big picture! My son is in Denmark and my wife's dead.
Mr. Robot
Oh, come on! You know damn well you don't go from most wanted man to hero unless the Dark Army has got plans for you.
I earned my freedom. I played my part. That's the least they could give me.
Mr. Robot
Horseshit. Your being added like a puppet just like the rest of us.
No puppet. No puppet. You're the puppet!
Mr. Robot
Wake up! You made a deal with a force bigger than you!
This is a childish conspiracy.
Mr. Robot
Childish? Who's the one that said we were gods, huh? Wake up. There are no gods. Our closest deities are a society of the richest, most influential men in existence. I'm done with this. Men who fuck over the rest of us for profit, for fun, and then leave us in the streets for dead. Just like your Joanna.
You don't talk about my wife.
Mr. Robot
Wouldn't she want you to realize the truth and fight? Or would she want you to be their little bitch?
[Tyrell strikes Mr. Robot to the ground]
Mr. Robot
There you go! There's the fighting Tyrell, who won't be put in a choke collar, unless you're into that sort of thing.
Mr. Robot
Five/Nine, fsociety... You knew the entire time, didn't you?
Five/Nine, yes. Well, not all the minutiae, of course. But since the cyber bombings, the breadcrumbs haven't been that difficult to follow. World catastrophes like this, they aren't caused by lone wolves like you. They occur because men like me allow them. You just happened to stumble into one of them.
Mr. Robot
No, no. I ran the operation. I pushed the button. I am the one--
There you go again. "I, I, I..." You are still thinking like a lone wolf.
Mr. Robot
Why don't you tell me how I should be thinking?
Mr. Robot
I am a leader.
Then where are your followers? You can't force an agenda, Mr. Alderson. You have to inspire one.
Mr. Robot
So. Ferris wheel. Cute touch.
I need information from you.
Mr. Robot
You do not get to summon me like you're Ali Baba. Squeeze me for information, then shove me back in some lamp.
Darlene's in trouble! She might already be dead!
Mr. Robot
The whole reason you're in this goddamn mess is because we're not working together, because YOU refuse to talk to me!
I wish that were true! The sick part is... I actually missed you. The only reason we haven't been talking is because I haven't let myself. Because I've been scared of you. The part of me that is you.
Mr. Robot
Why are we talking now?
Mr. Robot
I didn't know about that.
If you did, would you have done it?
[Mr. Robot is silent]
Mr. Robot
I would've... I would've found another way.
...because as much as there is a part of you in me, there's a part of me in you.
