S2 E2The Once and Future Queen
[Arthur is practising his jousting with Sir Leon; as they ride towards one another, the glare from Sir Leon's armour blinds Arthur, leaving him defenceless, but Sir Leon does not attack. Arthur dismounts.]
Why did you pull out? I was wide open, you could’ve unhorsed me!
I was fearful that I might injure you, sire.
You had the advantage, you can’t afford to hesitate!
I wouldn’t’ve done if I were facing a different opponent. You are the future king, my lord.
You jousted against me in the tournament last year, are you saying you let me win?
[hesitates] No, my lord.
[turns to the other knights, who shuffle uncomfortably] It doesn’t matter who I am! I do not expect any special treatment from you, from any of you! Is that understood?
(cleaning Gaius's leech tank) This is horrible. This is truly disgusting.
Than maybe next time you'll think twice about lying to me. You have something on your face.
(Merlin puts his hand to his face and discovers several leeches)
We’ve received reports that a beast has been sighted roaming the forest near the northern borders.
What’s the nature of this beast?
Well, it is said to have the body of a lion, the wings of an eagle, and the… face of… a bear.
[Merlin struggles not to laugh.]
I believe it has been conjured by sorcery.
Then we must destroy it.
I’ll leave for the northern borders in the morning.
But you’ll miss the tournament!
As much as I want to compete, my duty to Camelot comes first.

[Arthur looks at Merlin, who is still fighting hard not to laugh.]
Where do you get the idea you can sit around all day and do nothing?
Do you think I sit around and do nothing?! I haven't had a chance to sit around and do nothing since the day I arrived in Camelot, I'm too busy running around after Arthur - do this Merlin, do that Merlin - and when I'm not running around after Arthur, I'm doing chores for you and if I'm not doing that, I'm fulfilling my destiny - do you know how many times I've saved Arthur's life? I've lost count - do I get any thanks? No - I have fought griffins, witches, bandits, I have been punched, poisoned, pelted with fruit, and all the while I have to hide who I really am because if anyone finds out, Uther will have me executed. Some times I feel like I'm being pulled in so many directions I don't know which way to turn!
S2 E3The Nightmare Begins
[Arthur notices that Merlin is cleaning his chainmail]
I thought I told you to do that yesterday?
I didn’t have time, I was cleaning your stables.
That’s strange, because a little bird told me you were somewhere else.
Mucking out the stables is strange and a talking bird isn’t?
Merlin, what’ve we said about you trying to be funny?
I shouldn't.

[she shakes her head] I'm scared Merlin. I don’t understand anything anymore. I need to know what's happening. Please.
Gaius will be back soon. He’ll be able to help.
He won't. He’ll just give me more remedies and they won't do any good. It's magic Merlin.

I really wish there was something I could say. [she leaves] Morgana, Morgana wait.

(Telepathically) Hello, Morgana.

(During the battle, Merlin is scanning the camp and he sees Mordred. Mordred sees him.)
(Telepathically) Hello, Emrys.
(Mordred runs off)
