A man can't always live by the law.
A man cannot live any other way.
S2 E12Under Color of Authority
I have been a lawman for almost 600 years. Even before I was Immortal. I have seen cities burned, I have seen children slaughtered. Law is what separates us from the beast. When we leave it, we leave a hole with no bottom.
LLaura
You don't exactly trust me, much, now do you?
I don't know you.
LLaura
So you don't believe me.
No, I believe that you're frightened, and I believe that you're running from something. I'm just not sure what.
When you're young and you care about someone, you think with your heart. You don't see clearly.
LLaura
I don't know why you're so worried about Richie. I mean, you act like you're his father or something.
I'm not his father, Laura, but he is like family to me.
I'm looking for a girl.
Try working on your personality.
Richie, where is this going from here? What happens if you are out on the road and a cop recognizes her? What are you going to do, kill him? How far is this going to go, Richie?
I don't know, Mac, I don't know! All I know is, I gotta help her, Mac. Mac, she needs me.
S2 E19Legacy
[John is mortal. Rebecca is not.]
JJohn
Promise me something. You will leave me before I get too old.
RRebecca
You are in a good mood today!
JJohn
Well, I'm serious. Listen, Rebecca, you deserve a younger man.
RRebecca
I have a younger man. I have what I want.
JJohn
There's two things...
RRebecca
John, you are the love of my life. You're the love of a dozen lifetimes. I don't care if you are 23, or 53, or 103. I am never going to leave you. Ever.
MacLeod, do you ever wonder what it is like to die?
Every time.
That's not what I meant.
I know, you meant really die. Be gone forever.
So you do think about it.
Not for myself. Not any more. Whatever happens, happens.
I don't know. The longer I live the more I get attached to myself.
Sooner or later everyone dies. Even us.
I don't mind the later, it's the sooner part I don't like.
[Flashback to 1635]
Why take a man's head when you can have his gold?
RRebecca
Amanda!
What? You taught me to be clever.
RRebecca
I also taught you to be honest.
Ah yes, I forget that part.
Hmmmm. Breakfast in bed. You better watch it, MacLeod. They say this is how love starts.
Was the crystal really worth Rebecca's life?
LLuther
It's worth any amount of lives.
Whoever has the crystal becomes invincible. Is that it?
LLuther
So you know.
It's a myth, Luther. A story told by bored people around campfires.
You stuck your nose in without being asked, the least you could do is say you're sorry.
What, for saving your life?
Oh don't change the subject!
