Is it so hard to believe that someone would want to do something nice for you?
There was only one person who did things for me without wanting something in return, and that was my mother.

When I was a child I broke my ankle while playing with my cousins. I was desperate, crying in pain. My father told me to put ice on it, toughen up, stop with the tears. My mother went with me to the hospital, and on the way she told me that cold actually increases the pain. What's needed is warmth.
